caprera
I am almost half way to assembling my 1500pts Death Guard. I wanted to go for a weathered/factory primer painting but I need some technical support. My initial idea was for a Crusade-period Death Guard then I opted for the green/white but with second thoughts. The plain white is great but not entirely fitting, fluff speaking, in my opinion and heavy weathering instead I see it as a must. Atia's work has been most inspiring because of the color choices. I didn't want to but I was going to copy that until I saw this. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm106/Linnear1701/40K/DeathGuard1.jpg I know, but wait a minute. Question is: how can I make a green/white Death Guard where the white is not bright ? Maybe I start from a grey primer and care about recesses before building up the white as illumination. Could it work ? I really need some help on this, I haven't seen a brush in a long time and since I can't even choose a primer I think it shows clearly.... Adeptus-Alaska
That looks like a more beige-y tan color........Which is cool. But the solution is easy. Prime white wash with an even mix of seraphim sepia, agrax earthshade, and lamien medium. edge high light with a good bone color of your choice. And bam, your done. This will yield a darker than normal DG white that will ready for you to properly screw up with weathering. Hope that helps. GrandMagnus
I always consired bone white to be the perfect colour for death guard rather than actually white. Have you tried using white mixed with ushabti bone and then lightly washing it a couple of times with sepia? caprera
The wash must be well diluted or "dense" ? The following highlight in white must be generous or something along the bright lines only ? Buddy of mine sent me this and I like it: great weathering but I don't see the grey like he says. Maybe I have a color problem http://www.warseer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=175274&d=1375059280 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302847-death-guard-painting-help/#findComment-3937404 Share on other sites
Atia
Howdy! My paint scheme: Primer with Imperial Primer "Dusk Raider Grey" 1) 1 Zandi Dust + 1/2 Fenrisian Grey + 1/2 Ulthuan Grey2) Wash with 1 Seraphim Sepia + 1 Lahmia Medium3) Mix of 1) with White and Screaming Skull, use it for highlites4) Make it brighter, use it as glaze5) last highlites with 4 but more brighter (more white/screaming skull in it)6) for soilings use Typhon Corosis and other washes aswell as Ryza Rust"Death Guard Green"1) Castellan Green2) 1 Loren Forst + 1 Castellan Green + 1/2 Caliban Green, first highlites3) last highlites with 2) + Screaming Scull but it's a lot of mixing :/. I would do a black primer (as you want a darker white/bone and not a bright one) and work you down from grey/bone to white, and than do your weathering. Vallejos' effects range aswell as GW's Typhon Corosis are awesome for weathering :) http://img3.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/effectpaiutnscyt6x4d1o3.jpg hope it helps :/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302847-death-guard-painting-help/#findComment-3937437 Share on other sites
caprera
Thank you Atia, I will try to make it step by step. So dark primer and going up: is heavy weathering going to tone it down a bit ? So that I know better when to stop with the "white"... Chaeron
I've seen plenty of different white and off-white schemes over the many years I've been painting Death Guard - I would advise you to find something you feel comfortable painting as well as liking, otherwise it becomes painful. This is from someone who has painted companies worth of Plague Marines, and therefore get a good scheme and a good method, and you'll be laughing! Adeptus-Alaska
You mean try many different times and then decide. You mean try many different times and then decide. Yes, but used crap minis. And write the recipes down, it'll save you frustration later. When I was going to rock the DG, My plan was to mix different weathering levels and techniques into the same units to represent attrition losses.
