Greetings brethen,

Today, test time has begun ! Here is the first volonteer !

However like Aurellian himself I am in period of doubt. I find my Word Bearer lacks of asceticism and soberness, he bears so much gold isn't it ? I think I should paint gold ornaments in black too. Despite this, I am satisfied with the gold's aspect.

Greetings brethren,

I spent many months in meditation, looking for advice. In the light of black candles I found: There is no gold for penitents and true believers, there is only brass. Brass for an archaic, baroque and heavy word bearers' sect. Thus I spent last week end, locked in my room among chaos' whispers. I painted.

Today I'm glad to show you five CSM from my first squad :

A previous picture about the squad leader:

I hope you like. I know the bases are not done yet, I have to waiting to get an airbrush to paint grass like in this tutorial: http://leskouzes.blogspot.fr/2013/09/tuto-vegetation.html. Et voilà !

Glad to see you back to work on these!

I still love the very vivid contrast between the black and the light, icy blue you have chosen. If you don't mind the suggestion, I would try experimenting with a little bit more shading for the cloth tabards. They look cool (especially the one for the leader!) but they are little flat. I think deepening the shade in the deeper folds would make them look even better.

Evening Flint,

Thank you for your useful participation. So... Cloth tabards look flat because they are ! I have not enough experience with green stuff yet. More shading will be great, I will finish the squad and try to do it. Fortunately new carving tools will come the next week, I could make some sculpting tests about loincloths.

I am happy you love the new colours, the previous schema was too garish.

Dear Brethren,

I haven't seen you since ages! A lot of waters has passed under the bridge. Tzeentch wisps me thus my choices have changed a little but I come back with some new pictures. I crossed the new 30k space marines box and I wanted to mix it with some chaos space marines. I discovered new SM bases so my imagination goes ahead!

I sculpted loincloth from scratch on my sons of Colchis, they are not finished yet. They need more shading and a layer of Green Stuff Liquid to get a cloth aspect (I saw that here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cK97CLGFwY4 ). I change some armors with astrological symbols and I made a diabolical daemonic on a shoulder.

First : My new squad !

I love bases so I worked on it too. I mix the backpack of my Heavy Bolter with a chaos backpack.

As you see, I tried to make a dendrobate (yeah that frog!) on the skeleton supported by the trunk. It will go on my Daemon Prince's base. I wanted to show you what I made with rice grain to represent an exotic bayou alien plant. I hope you like it.

Edited by Héléade

nice shoulder pad design! will you add horns? like the daemon grimace sculpt on pads of the the FW diabolist design (book 5)?

the carved green stuff represents artificer armor? I had not thought to carve the constellations into a thin layer of green stuff to duplicate the FW designs for the Word Bearers. Consider this idea stolen and stored for when I have some green stuff experience and need to represent hardened armor on a heavy support squad!

I will not add horns on his face because he already has tooth with an censer and horns below. I do not want break the harmony of the miniature.

Colchisian armors are not representing artificier armors just our FAITH. Ah ah ah! Sorry. Ahem. To carve in plastic looks like harder than in a layer of green stuff, you do not need a lot of expericence just patience and resoluteness. Please show me when it's done. Loincloths are harder to make, I meet more difficulties with them and I need to develop my greenstuff know-how.

I started to sculpt colchisian runes on my heavy bolter marine's backpack.

Dear Brethren, my friends, Sons and daughters of Colchis,

I navigated on this forum and I found this topic with a pretty nice concept : http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/319497-vakrah-jal-chapter-icon/

So I took my green stuff and 30 minutes to tribute. I made a mask for a chaos space marine helmet. What do you think about it ?

As you can see, I carved the heavy bolter backpack's too and add a backbone! Enjoy!

Dear Brethren,

Thanks for your encouragements. I wanted to add something pretty in my Word Bearers Legion. So what is pretty in Chaos? Daemonettes. Unfortunately I dislike the actually miniatures of them, I think they are just ugly. Thus I sought old fashion metal model of them but they are so expensive whereas I saw a box of Sisters of Slaughter.

Today I propose to show you my test to convert a sister into a beautiful demon Slaanesh's and a tutorial : Prince of Excess is a little ""deviant"" so I tried to make some piercing to my daemonic trial. It works for earring and ring too.

/!\ Warning : The rest of my post will be in spoiler because like old slaaneshi daemons you could see some breast. Indeed I don't know the policy of Bolterandchainsword about it or your sensibility/ethics/!\

The first problem when you make a piercing is how to make easly a nice ring, the second problem is gravity. How to represent easly gravity too?

What do you need exactly?

http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2016/31/1470476162-tools.jpg

You need : A needle, some useless plastic bitz (keep that garbage!), a cutter, a lighter and a brush (an old one).

1 : Heat up your needle with the lighter (Be carefull! Metal can be hot very fast and burn your fingers. Be very carefull!!) When your needle is hot, sting the plastic bitz strongly. When you push your needle, hot plastic rides up and form the ring.

http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2016/31/1470476163-process.jpg

2 : As you see there are some ashes on plastic. Use your old brush to expel it. 3 : Your ring is ready to be cutted. Put your cutter's blade horizontally on the plastic and cutt the ring.

4 : I forgott to take a picture but you just need to cutt across the ring and separate a litte the edges (with the needle for instance) and you can add a tiny piece of greenstuff to make the tit. You can also slip the piercing on a hear to make an earring.

Here we are! The result :

http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2016/31/1470476165-daemonette.jpg

What do you think about that?

Why I don't use greenstuff to make an piercing like this? Because greenstuff is flabby and flaccid, it's hard to make a pretty tiny ring like this with greenstuff and represent a good gravity.

I hope you appreciated this tutoriel.

Nice use of the Vakrah Jal stuff, it's real nice to see it in physical form

That technique for making rings looks like it could be real useful (if time consuming) for turning cloth on models into chainmail - I'll have to try it on my Cataphractii Terminators

Dear Brethren,

I haven't seen you since ages (again)! Everything you saw is still in WIP because I'm very busy at work. But today I want to share with you my Deamon Prince. I am a little disappointed about my order because the Bealkor fig is so bloody small for a Deamon Prince!

I made a base for him. I wanted some vegetation on my base so I added a broken tree and to show the superiority of Chaos, so I added a dead lackey of the Inquisition (not assembled yet). Of course, the tree will got some leafs. However I am not very satisfied about the result, I don't know... I have no thrill when I see it.

Friends, I take any of your advices.

While Be'lakor may be small by modern Daemon Prince standards, he's still one of the best sculpts ever released by GW, in my opinion, so there's that, too ;)

I think the reason why you're not happy with the base may be because, even at this early point, it already threatens to overpower the model placed atop it -- personally speaking, I'd suggest going for something slightly more subtle (and less vertical) -- the finished Be'lakor model will have enough of a presence without a super-elaborate base construction underneath. Trust me on that -- been there myself ;)

@ Brettfp: Thanks Dude, I try to do my best. Devil is in the details.

@ KrautScientist: I think you are right, it is proportion question. The base should not be more important than the mode.

So I spent time on GW store and I think I saw something great. The Primaris Apothecary have a nice dead marine ready to be placed on my Daemon Prince's base. Furthermore the Primaris Model has what a presence too.

However I think I should mold this bitz to keep copies and use them. KrautScientist, I also spent time on your topic and I spotted a pretty head of marine, but I don't know where it comes from. Do you remember where it comes from ? Thanks in advance.

1523830626-iron-warriors-apothecary-wip.

Glad to be of help! :)

That fallen Primaris bit is very cool indeed! Even better, though, it's flat enough that it shouldn't take too much attention away from the real star of the show ;)

As for your question, that's actually a head from the Skitarii Rangers/Vanguard kit.

The ring tutorial is VERY helpful. I'm going to steal that for later use for my Daemonettes.

Also, I love the look of your Word Bearers. They're not the standard colours, but I can tell just by looking at them that they're not Black Legion, despite the similar palette. Well done! :tu:
