Epher's Guardians of the Covenant - Vows Complete!

Thanks for your comments! The repose had to be done since I have a half dozen of the DV sergeants. My latest trend is giving them bolters to keep the points cost low since I have been trying to perfect a double demi-company at 1500 points.

And now for the question... Who likes a WIP picture or two? Progress on the predator has been slow but this is what I have accomplished so far. The Ushabti Bone layering is slow going on since I cannot dry brush like I did with my land raider. For those who are not familiar with my other razorback, it has the same pattern all over as this predator has on its sides. Prehaps it will be done by the end of the week? The floor is open and you know what to do! msn-wink.gif

  • 3 months later...

Looks like I am back too! The last four months have been insane for managing my time. I am finally at the end of my engineering degree and have two of my exams done with one more to go and a final project to finish up. I took some time for myself and dusted off the paints and models. I put on a fresh pot of coffee and picked up one of my long neglected projects. I discovered that two pots of paint have did not make it through the break. The covers were not properly sealed.

The predator will collect dust for a little longer but for now I am working on a squad of assault marines without jump packs. Why give them jump packs when drop pods are free in a battle company? Here is a WIP pic. They have their base coat and some details. They, and the rest of my army, are getting white eyes. The color choice may not pop as much as other colors may but I likes it! The sergeant has the red details on his helmet, that's a first for my army. Future plans are sergeants with just bolters, a robeless command/vet squad with a unique paint scheme and more love for my 2nd Company. So here are the assault marines!

Thanks for the comments!

Cool glad to see your guardians are back in business. Good luck with the final project and exam.

@Punk Possum: I will definitely need a little luck with these ones.  I am looking forward to having it all done in a week!

Epher, do you use lead Belcher as your base? My army is going to be silver as well, and I quite like your silver.
Some sgts will hace red helmets too, but I swear I'm not copying lol

@jbaeza94: It is Lead Belcher.  Next they get a Nuln Oil wash and then high lights with Lead Belcher and Runefang Steel.  What do you plan on using for red?  I've been using Khorne Red.

@jbaeza94: It sounds like you have a well thought out plan for you army. Did you post about your army before? I remember reading about Cohorts before in this forum. Looking forward to seeing some progress pics!

Here is the sergeant done. I am going to apply the assault marine transfer to the other shoulder pad. There has been a lot posts on how to accomplish this without the lines. We will see how it goes for me! Anyways, C&C is welcome!

Thanks again for the comments!

@epher, yes I did actually, you commented on my page actually ha. I was deployed, but I just got home, I started painting already, a dread, I should be updating the page today

Cohort is not a common term used in this forum. Welcome back from your deployment! It is always good to come home. How long were you away for? It has been a long time since I have been deployed but that will change within a year.

I really like your stuff man! We can't have enough GotC! Personally I apply a thin coat of brown wash (sepia or thinned down agrax) to give a pewter shade. Red helmet FTW! biggrin.png

I did not think of using a different shade, it probably would give a more subtle effect than the Nuln Oil that I have been using. At 50 marines and counting, it would be a daunting task to change the color scheme. I am already planning on changing all of the eyes to white from blue. I know for fluff's sake that the whole helmet should be red but I had to keep some of the metal so it does not look like I looted some gear from the Blood Angels.

Nice sergeant Bro!

I like the Cie and Chapter badge !

Thanks, Galthan. Took me a few minutes to figure out Cie. msn-wink.gif The chapter badge is getting better but I think I will need to look into getting transfer sheets made.

Thanks brother Epher!

It was 7 months, glad to be back, ha. I hope yours goes well.

7 months? That is a long time to be away. I am just going to be away for four months in the UK for some training. Apparently there is a GW a short walk from the base and the visit to Forge World will be a day trip!

I have tried my hand at applying transfers to shoulder pads and I realized that I do indeed need some Micro-Set or similar product. I was hoping to get the transfers on tonight but it is what it is! So... I will post a pic of the squad anyways. I was lacking any natural light and nothing seemed to produce a decent picture. This is the best from the bunch. Once I get the transfers on I will take some better detailed shots.

So... Seven man assault squad with two flamers. They will be given a drop pod when used in a full battle company. The floor is open!

Lucky you! I'm ttying to go to the UK to check out forge world one day! Maybe I'll just take leave ha.

Either way, the Marines are looking great. Great job brother! I really like the one in the font left, very dynamic

For pictures, is that just a white piece of paper that you hang?

Thanks, jbaeza!

I have been using a large thin sheet of EVA foam as a back drop.  I have had mixed results from it.  I think I need to make a proper white box.

Tomorrow I pick up some Micro-Sol and Micro-Set to get some transfers on these guys!  In the interim... prepping for the ETL!

Well here are some nicer pictures of the assault squad. I was at my FLGW and took advantage of their scenery for a backdrop. I would eventually like to do another five but there are bigger fish to fry at this point! I have put transfers on two of them. It is a lot harder than I expected. I think that part of the problem was not letting the varnish dry completely.

Here is the sergeant in red helmet. I found an extra skull that I made for my chaplain base and used it for the model on the left.

Looking good on their scenic backdrop. How long did you leave the varnish? I always varnish then put the model down leave it overnight and then apply transfers the next day. Also a little micro set (or Humbrol decalset or the testors version whose name escapes me right now) works wonders in allowing you to position the transfer just right.

End of day 1 for the ETL. All models are primed and I have the black base paint and Ledbelcher done. One transfer on too. Squad 7 of the second company has been started! Sorry for the poor lighting but it is interesting to see the size difference between the tempest and regular speeders. For the Lion!!

med_gallery_83962_10975_484392.jpg

I have been plugging away at the Typhoons this week. I have been sneaking in a few moments when I can, like lunch breaks at work! This is my first land speeder painting attempt. I think its not too bad. I have few more "practice" land speeders before I attempt the Vengeance and Sableclaw. C&C is welcome! I took the picture at night so I had to use my phone flash. It brings out the highlighting but still the lighting is too harsh.
