Thank you guys.

This is the black and white/bone

Also thinking black & red or black & gold.

Oh baby ,  I am loving that one , especially since it matches the existing design , go with that one man , I think it would look absolutely beautiful  and not to mention give a consistent theme

I didnt see the "Fetch" until you said it. Now I cannot unsee it.

I like the black and bone

One question: Are you limited to circular shields? Maybe another design on a tower shield would break the "Fetch" idea.

WLK

Lol, the black & bone... It wouldn't have anything to do with it being Templar colours would it BladeWolf?

Hey Barabbas. I do agree it looks better than yellow and red.... Which are traditional colours for Blood Claws in 40K. However in 30K, who knows how they will mark them up?

I have been toying with the idea of black and red also.

WLK. You must be a mind reader, because my thoughts were turning to looking at shield shapes like those of the PA Space Wolves sprue. Long shields....If so, I am not sure if this design will suit, so may go with something else. The round shields might stick around for a week or so, just because all my modeling materials are at home while I am still at sea :sad.:

The idea to go with round shields was to follow continuity with the shields on my models, however design wise the round shield does not seem to work. If the guns had been at the back with the wolf head at the front it may have worked better, or I could have gone with a black/gold design and merged t into the wolf. That's what happens when you by on ebay!!.

An alternative is to stick to round shields , but go black and yellow which matches the wolf guard shields, but go with a completely different design

If I do switch shape and design, it is likely that I would use this on a shield for one of my Wolf Guard terminators. While there are no rules for Wolves in 30K yet and Standard terminators do not get Storm Shields., I will arm them up with storm bolters, shields and HtH weapon anyway. If push comes to shove, run them as Imperial Fists or Salamanders for shieldy-ness until we see our own rules.

Sound like a plan??

I definitely agree on varying up the shields. One thing I love about the Wolves is their varying nature. They are not uniform, they do not have a uniform code.

They wear what they want, what is practical for the mission. (one could agrue against wearing burnable cloaks and such, but the 7 foot tall killing machine gets the right of way)

if the TWC shields werent so small, i'd toss a few in the Breachers I'm building just to change things up a bit.

WLK

I'll look into the shields, but I am going to put them on the back burner for now or there is an even greater risk of stalling this project out than I am already feeling.

So what have I been noodling around with instead?

Well I decided to focus on another area of the tank. Normally I have a set game plan of what I want to do, but with this tank I am just winging it, and I am not enjoying it much. I keep questioning what I am doing and I am struggling to get a "whole picture" in my head.

I am worried it is going to get a little "bitty" with things here and there. So it seems a bit daft, but I dropped the knotwork. Herja means devastation.. So I tried to merge a skull to a wolfs head. Again the indecision is kicking in a bit. If it is okay do I do it on both sides?Should I put it centrally. Should I put a skull to one side and a wolf head to te other, like life & death?

Am I overthinking it?

The red outline will be gone, the wolf head is a metallic black, while the skull is XV-88. In order to blend them in, do I do the wolf head a brown colour, so it looks like the skull is almost jumping out? Or do I do it in silvers, or do a silver wolf and gold skull?

Forget the shield, as it might be going

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20151122_203855.jpg

Both sides, one side or middle? I do have a plan to put a Valknut or another symbol in the centre.

Or drop it as it is too 40K looking?

Seriously this thing is giving me a headache, I might just end up shelving it...

Thoughts please?

Hey Kurama, how are you doing?

Hope the surgery went alright. How are you managing to type??

Just for Bladewolf for fun... :smile.:

This makes me remarkably happy

A bit more noodling around.... So overwhelmingly, folks are not keen on the wolf skull combo.

If truth be told you are right, and it is one of the reasons that I really value your critiques and opinions.  Without it I would not grow as a modeller and a painter.

The aesthetic is all wrong & while quite ell executed, it just does not fit.

So I sketched up something.

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20151123_122155.jpg

The knot-work will run across the rack guard along the top of the Landraider, with the head section sitting just below the headlights.

The head is not knot-work per se, but at this scale knot-work is getting too complex to be done well, so I went with a softer more rounded tribal effect, which I reckon blends pretty well.

I do have a few other knot-work ideas up my sleeve, which I can sketch out and possibly one or two wolf head ideas.

This knot-work will be over both track guards, but the head is optional.

Do I go with a skull, so it is like life and death, do I do two heads the same, like twins.. Or do I do a decorative border so I can add a kill marking or something?

Let me know what you think. :)

We will see Barabbas. ;) I am heading for dry land tomorrow, so getting a last bit of painting done before I pack up... Gotta paint when the ju-ju is flowing :D

So I made a quick start and a very rough first go at the knot-work designs..

I could possibly drop the head down a few millimetres, and I am thinking to extend the loops to the lights to almost make shoulders behind the Wolf head.

The red eyes are going and the black lining will disappear when I get my grey paint. And this is just a first run at te design just now to see if I like it.

What do you think?!?

Wow. That knotwork is magnificent. Properly Fenrisian and higly decorated, without ending up gaudy with trinkets and skulls all over the place. That's how wolves are done.

Regarding that wolf head, I'd suggest continuing the loops at least on the headlight casing. Loops which I can't stop to see as two superimposed DNA double-helixes. Human and wolf. Or some such symbolism. I'm sure that wasn't intended, which makes it even better.

Hi Skalpynock.

Thank you!! Yeah thats the kind of look I am going for with the vehicles.. The warriors, more a minimal approach :)

Wolf at the door describes the 13th Company Wolves as removing all pelts totems and affectations of civility behind and then blackening their ceramite with soot to hide any shiny areas, before entering battle.

The Helix wasn't intended, but is a cool thought, and yes I am going to extend the loops down as it will give the wolf head some "soulders for want of a better word.

Well things have ground to a halt. The schools are off till Tuesday, so looking after the wee man.

Reinforcements are inbound though

Trying to work out what I should make from the boxed set, 2 10 man tacticals and a veteran squad, 2 15 man tacticals, or any other combination.. Ideas please?

So what to work on when Herja is finished off??

Recon team 2

Your wolves are looking great Dantay, love the aesthetics of the knotwork and the more vikingy/celtic iconography and equipment. It is so much more professional and adult looking compared to the wolfy mcwolfy wolves GW produces
