I've got a heavy support dude with Autocannon and another bolter marine in the last stages, then the IF command captain after.

Sadly not! Any suggestions for basing? That's one thing I always put off. Dot wanna go OTT, I think the yellow speaks for itself so don't wanna have an overly complicated base technique too

I am basing all of mine on cork board, its simple looks nice and it's fast!

Well, feel like as I had finished 5 chaps and sorted my scheme out, I deserved a treat so here's my Imperial Fists Captain. Love the model and it was both fun/an absolute nightmare painting him, particularly the silver filigree, which Im not entirely sure looks spot on.

Anyways, here is plus another bolter dude and a Heavy Support marine with Autocannon. Next up, the sergeant and 5 remaining marines to make a Tactical squad. That, and I really wanna start basing them now before I have 50 to do. I don't mind the odd one on cork but a friend has all his marinea on it and I don't want all of my army waking on fallen rocks haha.

These are looking realky nice - grimy Imperial Fists are the best kind. Are you thinking of using any of the cool helmet stripes / vambrace icons / chapter & company iconography shown in Extermination?

I'm gonna do some helmet stripes, aye :) just wish they had showed some more examples. I'll just knock some ideas up myself.

Hmm not sure on the squad markings etc. I'm not the biggest fan of transfers. In fact, I'm very tempted to replace some of the right hand pads on the guys so they all hve sculpted pads on both shoulders a la Extermination. Of course that means painting the Fists symbol twice. Yay

*cough* mud bases *cough*

As I have said before. ..great looking fists

The fist symbol on both shoulder pads would look Great. ..dont blame you on not wanting to try decals...pain in the butt trying to conform those round symbols lol

Look forward to your next update ;-)

Very nice Fists you have there. I really like the battle damage you have used.  You could always put basic symbols (tactical arrow, devastator triangle) on the left shoulder pads. Or as I have done with a few of mine, just put script on them.

Yeah I'm thinking that. I'm having a mix of different looks. Going to be something of a mix and match, need to draw up some background. Something along the lines of two or three companies linking up following Phall, hence some guys will have more tactical markings, and others will have two Fists shoulder pads, with others having some different spot colour or such.

Just dexciding on my next £200 to spend at FW this month :-D Thinking of trying some Tartaros Terminatorsa with Storm Shields and possibly one of the lovely IF Contemptors with 2x TLLC

did the captain come in all separate bits, or was he cast up like the SOH commander? great work BTW

The Captain comes as:

  • Single torso and legs combo
  • Head
  • Bolt Pistol with hand
  • Sword with Right arm
  • Left Arm
  • Two Shoulder pads

Pretty much the same for the Standard Bearer too.

Getting some work in on the Templar Brethren for my Imperial Fists. Love the minis, and I'm planning on a good 20 of them. Have 10 so far.

Tried out a slightly different scheme. Thought it odd that FW went for black armour for pre-Heresy, as I thought they followed suit with Sigismund, who changed his armour upon becoming the Emperor's Champion at the Siege of Terra.

Still, I hate painting black power armour so was a nice change. Need to get some grey weathering powder, the. I can start on the bases.

I must admit I didn't like the black armour of FW's Templar Bretheren. When I get some of my own I was going to do it very similar to how you have done yours, and it is pleasing to see that the yellow still works well for them. Good job.

They look fab, Slipstreams! I did actually consider going down that route, but cos I'm weathering mine a lot, I thought that might detract a bit and look a bit much. It was definitely a very close thing between that and the scheme I chose to do. I might do a squad or two using that though, seeing as I don't want my force looking totally uniform.

In other news, I'm off on my travels round the south coast of the UK from tomorrow, and had a little Forge World order turn up yesterday to paint whilse I'm away. Got some more IF heads and chests for some Sergeants, Vexillas etc, 5 more mk III dudes, plus enough parts to make another 5 Templars. Decided I'm going down the Veterans route, so I'll eventually have a force that will look something like Sigismund, 2 squads of Templars in Land Raiders supported by Heavy Bolter toting, sniping Veterans in Rhinos. I will then look at adding in things like Contemptors and the Deredo, Meudsas etc, then add in things after like Polux and Breachers, to give me the option of then having a standard force, a Veteran & Templar-heavy army or one with Polux and loads of Breachers/Warders. But that's a far cry away, atm, I'm focusing on the Templars. Keep watching the Director's Cut of Kingodm of HEaven for Crusading inspiration (helps that it's my all-time favourite film too)

So yeah, the tally so far is:

Imperial Fists Command Squad

10 Templar Brethren

4x 10-man Veteran squads (need to snap up another set of Heavy Bolters though)

5 Heavy Support marines with Autocannons. Next purchases will likely be a pair of Phobos Landys come next pay day and a Dodo Dread
