I use layerings of oil paints over a boltgun-metal style paint, then go over it with light washes, do the damage effects, highlight, wash again then add another highlight. In order to make metal look good you need to distress the living hell out of it. Ok gents, final update for a few days as i've got some building yet to do. May i present the first teaser infantry. Just seeing that boltgun legionary makes me want to restart Iron Warriors, and I'm very much sworn to the XVII and have been for years. Love the hazard stripes on Narik's armour. You've chosen a perfect colour for the trim on the pauldrons, too (which looks much better on 30k IW than it does on their post-heresy counterparts, because all the banding on CSM distracts from the simple spot colour effect) I thought you might have some complex alchemical process for the tank hulls, it looks like a lot of work has gone into them.
