Stercus
Damnit, I haven't got time for this... Nevertheless: I, Stercus, the-overly-ambitious-and-feckless, pledge to build and paint a henchman in the service of Rogue Trader Salomin Monkshood by March 31st, M2.15. Dosjetka
I'll accept your vow Stercus, even if it was a tad past the deadline. However, NO MORE VOWS SHALL BE ACCEPTED. Kierdale
Some beautiful work going on! My mini is finished. I'll try to upload his writeup tomorrow. Totally different technique from my usual work. It was nice to experiment. That last shot shows his water bottle and combat knife, as this boy's an ex-Scion. And one last shot. WarriorFish
He looks really good! Not often Catachan bits look so good, are some bits from the CCS kit? Kierdale
Thanks. His bitz: Empire cannon crew head. FW Umbra Ferrox bolt gun and chainsaw bayonet. Catachan infantry squad body, legs and arms. Catachan command squad backpack. Scion knife, water bottle and pouch-thingy on his left hip. I definitely think Catachan models look better with backpacks. WarriorFish
Yeah the backpack aside from looking good anyway helps balance the model. Maybe I should get a box of Catachans for bits... sedibear
I think I'll do Catachan Death Cult Assassins. It's one of the reasons why I've not started a full Inquisition project - the modelling opportunities are so numerous, I can't make up my mind haha Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303849-of-lunatics-and-henchmen-inquisition-challenge-2/page/2/#findComment-3968129 Share on other sites
Kierdale
Here's my acolyte's background. Ex-Tempestor Prime Noa `Rook` Konnar Born on the most infamous deathworld in the Imperium: Catachan, Noa was orphaned before his tenth birthday. The land crawler convoy his family and others were travelling in experienced mechanical trouble and, before the lead crawler - which blocked the rest - could be repaired, they were set upon by a pack of Devils. Though the child attempted to aid his family and relatives in fending off the beasts (for, like Cadian children, Catachans are trained from a young age in the use of firearms), before they were overrun his parents bundled him into a locker and made his swear to be silent. The convoy was later rescued by a platoon of jungle fighters dropping in from Valkyries, and the boy found in the land crawler wreckage. While orphaned children were far from uncommon on as lethal a world as Catachan, with the vast majority going into regimental orphanages, Noa’s father had been a priest of the Imperial Cult and the youth saw himself taken into the care of the Schola Progenia. Though he was big built; a gift of his Catachan genetics and upbringing, he did not prove to be a bully as some of his peers and instructors had expected. Indeed, the boy knew the value of self-sacrifice and team work, both having been essential for survival upon his homeworld. Excelling in sports due to his physique, he also devoured all learning materials he could acquire, having had little time for such pursuits on Catachan. Neither a born leader nor a loner, upon his graduation from the Schola, the strapping youth found himself inducted into the Tempestus Scions. Here he found a family and purpose once more with the 984th Omnicron Snakes, better known as the Black Adders for the dark fatigues and armour they often wore. Fully acquainted with jungle warfare since his childhood, he served as his squad’s specialist when the Adders were deployed to jungle theaters, and as direct liaison when fighting alongside Catachan regiments during the Petruvian Cleansing and fighting in the Begath IV tropics. He and the survivors of his squad were commended for their hunt of an elusive Tyranid Lictor in the jungles of Val Verde V. During his time as a Scion he was known for waking up before his squadmates to work out, acting as if he had just woken -muscles pumped- for breakfast alongside them. He also gained the habit of cracking his knuckles when tense. He soon saw promotion to Tempestor and eventually Tempestor Prime. It was shortly after being given command of his own platoon that he and several other of the 984th’s Prime’s were called upon by the Ordo Malleus. It had been discovered that the Stygian Guard Adeptus Astartes chapter had fallen to Chaos, specifically the worship of Slaanesh. Inquisitorial agents were already present on the planet liaising with loyalist resistance members (predominantly remnants of Imperial Cult sects who still worshipped Holy Terra, and had not been absorbed by the Stygian Guard’s corrupted Exalted Fecund sect). The Ordo Malleus had also called upon a Black Templar crusade which was thus inbound for the renegade Astartes homeworld of Fulcrum. The Black Adders were tasked with making a pathfinder drop into the capital city the night before the Templar’s dawn assault. Tempestor Prime Konnar’s platoon successfully took the Golega civil starport, in heavy fighting against not only renegade PDF and cultist resistance but also a squad of the renegade Astartes and monstrosities summoned from beyond the veil. It was these last foes which nearly saw the platoon falter and flee, only Konnar’s grit and bloody-mindedness keeping them in the fight. The stalwart attitude which had seen him earn the nickname `Rook`, akin to the regicide piece. It was also this experience which, after the battle was won, brought him face to face with the Ordo Malleus inquisitor who had dispatched the Scions. He and his men - the few who had survived - had seen too much. The inquisitor offered them the simple choice of the Emperor’s Benediction, or service as his acolytes. Official regimental records note that Tempestor Prime Noa Konnar, native of Catachan, was KIA along with his platoon on Fulcrum combating the pawns of the Infernal Powers. Though familiar with a wide range of firearms, melee weaponry and explosives, Noa favours his umbra-ferrox bolt gun with chain-bayonet. He also possesses mementoes of his time as a Scion: his old canteen, medpack and combat knife. oldschoolsavant
Struggled for ages with a scheme, something between crimson DCA and tying in with a retinue, and finally settled towards the latter. Bits: Metal Empire standard topper Undead Horseman Torso DE Wych arms Eldar sword 'quin legs DW something for the back vials http://i59.tinypic.com/2wdzg2d.jpg http://i60.tinypic.com/2wnu5xs.jpg http://i59.tinypic.com/eu1npf.jpg "And that ?" Decim smirked. He had noticed the Watch Captain's curiosity from the moment he'd entered the ward room, and now entertained an explanation to further pique it. "Just the final piece of my little jigsaw, Captain." Decim reached for his pipe, lifting it to his mouth, pausingly, deliberately, to prolong the anticipation. He looked across the table, his followers finishing the remaining scraps of the fine dinner, and the camaraderie therein. The brothers Ubek, hearty laughs and wide smiles through weary faces. The squat, Carrow, inebriated as expected, and the scornful eyes of the Priest Mother upon him. The kroot Grendel had excused himself at the Inquisitor's behest, so as not to pollute the taught atmosphere further, undoubtedly scrabbling through the lower decks for what vermin passed as food to his taste. For the best, Decim concurred. Another waft of incensed smoke rose from his pipe, as Decim glanced to the Xeno Inquisitor to his left, whose ship he had commandeered not three hours hence. Almost subservient in his behaviour when presented with the Inquisitorial Decree, perhaps biding his time until rid of the Malleus interference, playing a careful game of mediation to the complicated hierarchy created. Another puff, and Decim returned to the inquisitive Medusan Son to his right. "Shelagh. My bodyguard, terribly wounded by a traitor, a plasma blast searing through her body, yet serving still. The benevolence of the Emperor streches even to her." Both men's attention turned towards the final piece, an 8ft onyx cylinder, resting in an alcove beyond the foot of the table, serfs and servitors tending to the myriad of cabling and monitors necessary for her slumber. Decim could sense the tension in the Captain's frame, and with a swept, outstretched arm, he beckoned the Astartes to investigate of his own will. Slowly, the Medusan raised himself with hesitancy, slowly approaching the alcove before laying a gauntlet on the smooth onyx. Decim smiled as he slid the control from his belt, gently pressing one button, and awaited the reaction...... The Watch Captain's reflexes immediately snapped, eyes darting to the observation port now apparent. concentration sharpening so as to comprehend the murky view within. A laurelled skull, intricate in execution, encasing scarred and age-old cauterised skin emerging from it's bronze collar, extending across the upper torso. Eyes black as jet. Death incarnate. "An assassin ?!" snapped the Medusan, his gaze whipping round. "Not yet, Captain, no. But the promising prospect of her ascension does shine, does it not ?" Two days to Illiarn. Two days until the hunt resumes. She will be ready, as will I, Decim thought, extinguishing his pipe. Kordash will be brought to heel. Father Mehman
Here's the Priest (or Missionary- haven't decided on him yet) that'll be painted for the challenge. Stercus
Well, after something of a rummage in my bits box, heres what I have so far. Its a gun-servitor, and while in itself mindless it was created out of a faithful retainer of the Aconitas Rogue Trader clan once his human lifespan began to wane: Needs a little tidying up, but apart from that, we're ready for some paint. Kierdale
I love that his left hand is making a 'pistol'!
