This is my first post, I have been a long time observer on Bolter and Chainsword, being inspired by the amazing work on this board.

I now too will take the plunge and share my work.

That's a heck of a way to drop a first post, brother. 

 

That dramatic lighting is kind of awesome (especially on Curze). Not many people do that but I think it's a great way to highlight a model, as long as it doesn't come across as trying to hide your flaws. :D Seeing brush strokes in extreme closeup is like a rite-of-passage here on B&C. 

 

Looking forward to seeing what you do with that knight. The sewing bobbin is an interesting choice for a base. :D

@Helterskelter, I am not a permanent night Lord, i paint whatever I like. These models were actually a gift from, my wife.

Here my progress so far on the knight:

I am pretty much making up the scheme as i go along, without any real vision in mind other than making him blue, beat, dirty and rusty.

I was thinking of adding white on the blue armour panels, perhaps adding some red in there.

As for the head, I am also not sure yet, yesterday I thought white, the day before was red, so I might settle for red with a white strip in the middle

Your suggestions would be most welcome.

Looking good so far! I think red would be more striking with that blue, but it depends what you're shooting for. I think blue and white can still work with little pops of red, but you'll need to be pretty conservative with them. Also, you run into flag territory with red, white and blue. 

 

It looks like you've done some weathering on the blue, yeah? What are you using for that? I like the effect from what I can see of it.

Thanks Jeff, I went for red on the head and will keep it minimal throughout.

 

The weathering has been done with hairspray and a toothbrush:

The hairspray I bought is a bit too thick, I think the most basic cheap hairspray would work better, in some cases it turned all the paint into a giant transfer, forcing me to redo the shoulder guards completely.

I will have to repair some masking tape mistakes and decide on an emblem... hopefully before I finish with the base-coat.

I also still need to clean and base the arms, finish the cockpit and start work on the metal bits.

That is quite the beautiful Night Haunter you have there! and that Knight is coming along very nicely! Anything else you planning on showing us brother? You are doing marvelous work here!

I do dig that, sir. Nice work! I used Vallejo Chipping Medium on my knight and I thought it was very controllable. Sounds like the hairspray was a bit too slippery, so you might want to give something else a shot. I think what you've got looks great, though!

Thanks ColdWinter, I plan to be working on some Mechanicum next. I still have Tech Thralls and Draykavac floating about somewhere and a friend of mine is asking me to paint Fulgrim for him, other than that some Chaos Dwarfs and historical stuff, but that is not for this forum :) 

I am planning to do some marines but have not decided on a legion yet, I might do a bit of all of them, especially the legion specific units, but Mechanicum also looks very tempting, not to mention Solar Auxilia, so many great models and such limited time, but I digress...

 

I will give the Valejo chipping a try next time, thanks for the tip Jeff. I tried a different hairspray on the black heraldry but it would hardly come off!

 

I have made some progress this weekend, the black heraldry lines have been added (which were a pain, cutting out tape etc) and I have started with the base metal colour for the metal trim on the removable armour plates:

My progress so far on the cockpit, the base and first layer of rust has been done.

Still need to tune the viewing screen, leather and add different types of rust:

The Throne looks more like a dirty toilet, but that is what inspired me ;)

 

I have decide on a house name, but the logo/symbol is still in progress once I decide on that I will be able to finish the armour panels.

My update for this week, I find that posting stimulates me to book progress.

Started with the first rust layer (not streaked and faded yet) on the armour panels, working my way towards a more orange (fresher) rust since I cannot decide on an emblem. I think I will wait until FW comes out with a nice decal sheet... if any of you have tips, please let me know.

I still need to fade out the rust and add highlights, not to mention cables and the base.

 

The shield was pretty bent up and miscast on the front facing part, I tried to repair it and I added some rust to cover up the worst parts. In contrast the back of the shield looked perfect... I am thinking of adding some minor glow effects on the shield node things, but I do not want it to be overwhelming. Any of you have suggestions?

It has been a while since I posted, life and all of that.

In my spare time I did manage to paint up the cables and energy glowy parts, I took the artwork in Book 4 as reference.

 

It is easy to go overboard with glowing parts and I generally try to steer away from it, consider this an experiment :) I was planning on going with green, but I wanted to keep him cold and robotic, hence the blue.

Looking good! I love the pose, and the colour scheme is really striking. What are you using for the rust effect? Weathering powder?

I have been away for a while, but I have worked on my Knight, which is nearly completed now.

I still need to replace the resin banner chains with metal ones, especially the larger one on the lance, which i removed due to looking silly. I will also add a pilot, which I picked up during the Amsterdam 2015 open day. Once fully completed i will be making proper pictures:

After a 1 year break from painting I started working on Fulgrim:

This model had some miscast issues, especially on the torso and the resin was extremely shiny.

Not too happy how the gem turned out, might need to redo that, fluff wise which colour is it supposed to be?

I managed to free up some more time on painting and make some strides in Fulgrim's progress:

This model was a serious pain to put together, bits snapping off all the time, I did at least learn a few things. I also had severe molding issues on his right arm. the leather straps looked like a lump of molten resin, hence his loincloth has become a shoulder cloth. I have seen some other models online that had the same, I suspect the had similar issues.

 

I still need to finish the rest of his base, I am thinking of going for IW and EC bodies.
