Captain Casso Cajastak,

Commander of the 2nd Company - "The Somber and the Pale" , Assault Echolon, Rukal Breacher Battalion

"And the wolves will come at night. And they will hunt you. And they will cast you down and tear you apart limb by limb.

Because it is the nature of the beast to devourer until there is nothing left."

-Malatan Comatus, prophet, Anastorian Empire, Terra, M.8

While most of the Battalion is made of Breacher Units, the second company holds the assault troops of the contingent. Like a spear plunged in the body of an enemy, once the armor is broken they are used to hit at places the enemy lines and fortifications are broken allready.

Wanted to make an DA captain out of this fella, ended up repainting him when I was finished because I loved the model but didn't liked the paintjob I did and changed my mind about the concept of the model. So I swaped the head and the backpack to a jumppack and came up with a leader for my assault/reaver troops.

That model was on my desk for like 4 month, lost motivation several times and I'm very happy to see him finally finished.

cheers.

inmortan Joe!

Is it me or are the pics getting darker and darker? Still a beauty, though.

Thought the same thing ph34r.png ... Isn't on purpose. Even tough I use the same method for the photos each time, I seem to place the light diffrently from time to time. The next photo will be like those 2 since I shot them all at once but I will try to make them at least a little bit brighter after that ;)

Well...ok...thats it.

After following this for months, this is officially my favorite thread on B&C

Its officially official.

sweat.gifblush.png Thanks mate! Much love!

Would love to see a lighter group pic of these, looks lovely!

Will do a lighter groupshot when I finished the unit, mby a Army Shot as well. Try to make the next pictures a bit brighter. But it's really not so much the photos, it's more the dark colours of the miniatures and the black background - but that's the dim and dire look I want for them and I want it to be transported at the first look at a picture. But I think I will do some lighter detail close up shots next time like I did with some of the HQ choices.

I get far too excited every time this thread is updated.  As always, stellar work.

Same here. Then it is followed by heavy breathing.

The new breacher looks awesome! I love that bit of extra protection for his neck. Did you just use plasticard to make that?

"No one knows how the oldest Moribund can be still alive. It's a mathematical impossibility given the circumstances under which they fight. Some say they are vengful ghosts. Born of blood, steel and the mud of a thousand trenches they are refused to find rest in death."

Your stuff is very inspiring. Each time I look at this thread I debate quitting my 40k army and jointing the heresy with a legion of breachers.

It looks like you use a lot of weathering powders on your SoH. How do you apply then to look so natural on such small figures?

Great looking Sons of Horus! I really like your painting style. The pictures are a bit dark though. Maybe try a lighter background, to make the models stand out more?

Thanks for the praise! Have this request since I made the first testminiature for this project laugh.png ... But I tried a variety of Backgrounds and I just don't like it. The black background just fits the feel of this project and my painting style the most. Everything else would compromise the overall feel and also this is the way I like the photos the most and I wouldn't go against my gut feeling. Also it's more of a "subjectiv darkness"; The pictures are shot with 4 daylight lamps, indirect lighting, ISO 100, Shutter 4.3, exposure time 1 sec. Technically they are well lit and I can assure you, with this setting they look exactly like they look in real life. But the dark colours infront of the black background just makes the photos seem dark (also noticable when you look at bare skin and white hair and how they pop out). But then again; this is the look I'm going for ;)

Thanks! And yes more or less! I'm a huge fan of pigments! If you use them the right way, there is no tool in a model painters arsenal to make a miniature (and before everything else the bases!) look more realistic.

But the use of pigments is way less than you probably assume. There are barely any pigments used on the model itself. I oilwash the whole armor with burnt umber. Clean up and play around with the wash on some places (this way I create the dirty spots on the armor). Also the wash gives the whole miniature a more realistic and dirty look.

I use alot of pigments on the base. I built the base, coat it with a dark redbrown and everything else is just pigments. I apply them with a brush on the base and the lower legs and bottomside of the shield. After I finished the whole model I coat it with purity seal. That's all I do to make the pigments stick. Pigments have a way of sticking to a surface anyway (if you got it on your hand or cloth you will know what I mean) and all the methods were I need a wet binding component like varnish don't get me the result I want....and also they are way more timeconsuming and If you use to much you basicly lose all the dusty look of pigments.

hope I could help you ;)
