[30K] Sons of Horus - Rukal Breacher

My first heresy models will arrive in two days and they will form the beginnings of my sons of horus force. I thought I had a pretty clear idea on how to paint them, then I saw yours. Wow they are truly great and thematic. I hope you're not offended if I try to borrow some, or ALOT, of your style.

If I can ask you one question it would be how you achieve that charcoal black on the shoulder trims? It looks great!

I wasn't around the forum here when this thread started, so I just found it after the latest updates and I have read the entire thing from start to finish! I really like all the work you have done here and the mood of the images (though the last few are certainly darker and a bit harder to see compared to the earlier ones). They have almost a horror vibe to them.

Capain Casso is an especially great model overall. The time and work you put into that one paid off.

My painting style, when it comes to the pace, is much like yours. I can't turn-out a bunch of models at once, so I plod along on a few at a time until they are finished. I may never field a full army, but I'm happy with the results. Looking forward to seeing more of these! thumbsup.gif

Thanks guys for all the kind words! Genuinely appreciated! happy.png

For the lineunits I often stick to just painting it black to be honest. I use the black by Scale75, I know no other black that has such a matt finish. For officers or if I'm motivated I blend with grey+a little of caspian blue.

This thread gets even better every time I look at it.

Quick question, how did you do the extra gorget armour? I'm planning a breacher unit for my Ultra's in the future when I can get round to it and I would love to be able to pull something like that off for the sergeant, If you'd be willing for me to use your idea of course =)

Thanks :D The gorget is just plasticcard. I cut out a piece and roll it with the shaft of a brush until it has the curve I need. And I am not the first with this idea, I've seen some other people with similar modifications to their units but can't remeber were :/

Great models.

Nice to meet a fellow Austrian, even Viennese, on this forumbiggrin.png

Servus ;) And I allways thought there is basicly no austrian Horus Heresy community :D

God those facial features are just outstanding, the cheek bones and lips especially. When are we going to get an army shot?

Probably not what you had in mind but for now that's all I got ;D
