Stu's Wolves and Nids- BUGS! BUGS EVERYWHERE!

Recommended Posts

As far as ETL, tonight only saw a layer of The Fang on some Wulfen. Tonight was dedicated to Bran Redmaw. He's getting closer, I just need to finish up his Wulfen-form bits. But this, minus minor tweaks, will be Bran pre-transformation.

So some advice is needed. I'm not a fan of the Caucasian looking Wulfen, so I'may going with natural wolf colors.

The one I want to call attention to is the "blonde" one. My plan first him is to add some type of thin brown layer on him, whether a wash or glaze, but I'm afraid he may still be too light. Does it seem too stark a color? Has anyone ever worked with fur or hair this color?

Anyway, for my parting shot, it seems as if our dear Jarl Bran might very gotten a little too close to the Wulfen...

Bran looks like Khârn, really like what yo have done with him.

I too am in a quandary over Caucasian wulfen...

As for blondie, looks like you have used Ushabi bone. Wash with Sepia to pick out the detail. Like a wolf pelt build it up with successive washes of sepia, leaving a little of the lighter shade behind at the edges. You will then see a gradient from light to dark. After bout 3-4 washes, move on to the Agrax, and repeat until you have a very thin ark fur line.

If I can get to the internet tonight I'll send a picture

Got the armor and fur for my first group of Wulfen based. Should be able to give the fur one pass with a dry brush and a wash to call it good.

It also appears as if someone is watching, observing off to the side. I wonder what Cypher is planning now...

@Augustus: Thanks man! I'm quite proud of him. Almost makes me wonder what I could do with an army of dress wearers, if they weren't closet traitors.

@Dantay: I actually tried for a hybrid of what I usually do with fur and your suggestion. I did a test where I progressively drybrushed darker browns, washing with AP Strong between each.

The darker shade on the left was an additional step where I gave a final wash of Drakenhof Nightshade. I think I like the way it turned out, giving a significantly darker shade, with a tinge of warp-touched blue. I may do that last step for all my Wulfen,if not for all my fur period.

As usual, guys, C&C is welcomed. And please, do leave C&C. I'may not gonna better my skills if I don't know where to improve, or what to sustain.

Another day, another Wulfen. I really like using Drakenhof Nightshade for their fur and eyes. Really gives them anow unworldy, unnatural look. Almost like the hybrid werewolf from the Underworld series.

Kurama, you sure know how to make a fellow blush lol.

The last wolf I'll get to paint for a few weeks. I think this may be my favorite one yet.

Pushing on to the Storm Eagle, basecoat will come tonight, as well as reworking shoulder pads on the Termie Wulfen. Looks like my Praetor will come in handy before I even build him.

Started working on the Storm Eagle tonight. Just laid down a base of The Fang and began some other colors.

I'm hoping to have it finished by this time next week. That'll give me a little over a month on 6 figures, possibly doing another individual vow.

All the metal is almost complete. Just gotta work the main engines. Not really much to do after that; what little gold/brass, details, clean up, then weathering.

Only thing that is bugging me is breaking up the color on here. The side doors will be white, waiting for Bloodmaw transfers in the future, but I'm at a loss for other ideas to break up the grey/blue. Any suggestions would help.

I go for a two tone look with my flyers.

The top side is mech grey and the underside areas a re dawnstone.

Gives it a great white shark kind o look :D

Not sure what you could use for an underside colour if you like that idea

omething else to consider is getting some agrax earthshade and maybe just going round the recesses very carefully with it, just to put some shadow in & give it a wee bit o depth

When I saw your name, my first thought was, "He's gonna say knotwork. I can't do knotwork." So relieved you didn't lol. That's actually not a bad idea. I just have to find what color I have that's lighter. An idea I had was making all the wing flaps a different color, but I'm not too sure if it would look good, or tacky as hell.

So, babysitter calling in sick means I got an extra day off of work. I was able to take advantage of the time and really got some progress made on the Storm Eagle.

http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah7/codyrstuart/20160701_223947_zpsxgdnm5sx.jpg

So the white is where I'm looking to add color on the bird. Unsure if I wanna stick with white since I have so many layers in it already, or do red or yellow. Minus that dilemma, it only needs lights, clean-up, and wash/weathering. With the holiday on Monday, I could finish this beast within a week. That's impressive for me.

On another note, kids are so darn cute. My oldest son (2 years old) clobbed up into my chair and grabbed a brush, so I said "What the hell," and grabbed an unpainted Long Fang, and let him go to town.

He actually had pretty decent brush control after i finished helping him the first minute. Maybe he'll end up picking up the hobby.

Today saw the white finished up (which is really growing on me), the window highlighted, lenses done, and clean up of the Russ grey begin with the top. Should be able to finish the clean up tomorrow, and wash/weather Monday.
