Stu's Wolves and Nids- BUGS! BUGS EVERYWHERE!

Recommended Posts

So, finally got some time last night to do some work, and got the frame for the upper body finished, and started to attach finished parts to it. Still needs another wash, but I really like where it's going.

Peekaboo! Not sure why since I glued the mask and chest plate on, but I spent a good deal of time on the head and cables. I'm still torn as to whether I want to add some OSL to the mask where the eyes are. Also, before the pic, the bracket that holds the shield broke off, so now the stubbed and shield mount will have to be glued in place which sucks because I wanted as much articulation aso possible.

Getting closer to the end.

So many had painted checkers.... Anywho, I have just the left pauldron and the base left before I begin work on my list for the Tale of 20 Hobbyists. The arms and missile launcher still need magnetizing and painting, but that can be my break from painting during this next endeavor.

That stubber is adorable!!

I want you to put 1 on the other side with no main arms. Then he would look like a T-Rex :D

Seriously though, you are doing a really good job on that knight. The checkers are outstanding!!

Any knightly names yet?

It's his strong hand! As for names, this one will be named Nobilis (Latin for noble). To include the royal line, there are 3 main branches of the Scottish Stuart/Stewart clan that I can identify. This one is based loosely on the Stuart part of that line, whose motto is "The Lion's Wrath is Noble". The next one will reflect the Stewart part; crest, motto, and name. And if I don't lose part of the house buying the Prospero box and Russ, I'm planning on an Atropos to represent the royal house.

So, I decided to play with magnets tonight, and stupid me bought the wrong size... Luckily I still had some smaller ones, and started to throw some arms together. While my current fix will work with the CCW arms, the gun arms will be a different story. No pics tonight, but I hope to get pics with the finished pauldron tomorrow night.

Still waiting on the magnets for the arms, but the main body is finished.

And I finally got the base sorted. Only needs paint.

Sadly, the knight will have to take backseet for a while to the Tale of 20 Legions project. First month will be Bran Redmaw and a drop pod. Any spare time will be given to finishing the knight and basing the rest of the ToL list. As usual, C&C is welcome.

After work today, I was able to get some priming done on the bases for this month, as well as Bran and the knight base. As we wait for the start of October, here is an obligatory pict feed fueled by Pixlr of whats to come.

It's been a few days, but I have something to show for it. The Curs'd Lord is complete!

And you wouldn't like him when he's angry

http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah7/codyrstuart/20161008_210206_zpso3tj5qwg.jpg

I am extremely pleased with how he turned out. He is most definitely the centerpiece for my army. Taking a couple days off of painting, but I won't be idle.

The green fellow to the right will be my contribution to the banner bearer exchange going on in the Space Wolves forum, the pod and guys in the middle are the rest of my Tale of Legions vow for the month, and the box is 25 scouts preparing to go through the Repurposing. They're all becoming bolter scouts for an allied 10th company strike force. Those rules really strike me as a way forward for the Space Wolves scouts since they pretty much became jokes, but I digress. As usual, C&C is appreciated.

Sorry for no WIP lately, they've been over on the Tale of 20 Legions thread, but here are some completed pics. I finally got the drop pod finished. I went over the top on the weathering, but for a tin can burning through the atmosphere, crashing to the ground, I think it'should suitable. There are some places that need some more wash, but I'm done fooling with this one for now.

I'll be gone the rest of the week, so that leaves me 5-ish days to finish the 6 Wolf Guard for this month. After that, I'may taking smaller bites out of the list I'm painting. C&C is welcomed and encouraged.

That Khârn conversion looks killer. Nicly done. What head is that, btw? Is it from a third party? And you magnetized his head and arms to turn him into the werewulven thing, right? When you switch them around, I bet you play....

Hidden Content

;)

BTW I don't think the weathering on the pod is overdone so much as it's out of place in certain areas. The weathering looks like mud, but how is that going to reach the upper areas? Perhaps you could highlight the brown splatter with some steel paint here and there to make it look more like pain chipping and damage?

Augustus, sadly, I haven't been able to use him in a game yet, so that thought hasn't crossed my mind lol. The head came from the Space Wolves upgrade set. And I'll go back later and highlight the weathering further up. It is meant to be rusted exposed metal, so having some fresh scrapes make sense.

Uveron, I guess I will have to pick some up one day and give them a try, but until then, I think another abaddon black wash at the bottom may work.

Life is funny. You think you got plenty of time to knock out small groups to paint, then it comes and hits you where it hurts; time and motivation. I didn't meet my October vow for Tale of 20 Legions, bit I wasn't far off, so I will be carrying it on to this month, along with a small vow, just a Lone Wolf with Power Axe and two wolves. And I've already made it almost 1/2 way through.

Wolves just need their base finished and given a quick wash, whilet the lone wolf has been basecoated. Should not only be able to finish November and Octobers vows, but also knock out a quick banner bearer for a swap happening on the Space Wolves forum.

So, I need some advice. Here is where the Lone Wolf is now:

http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah7/codyrstuart/20161108_220417_zps43se2igv.jpg

My question is should I leave the trim and decorations the color they are now, or do them gold a la Bran up top. The only reason I am not looking forward to the gold is how long it will take, and time isn't really a luxury right now.

I would personally say gold myself, leave th steel on the legs and fore arms as they are functional rather than decorative

The eagle and little shields gold.

Super quick gold

Use gehenna gold or retributory armour as a base.

Wash with either agrax or reikland flesh shade

Very edges, highlight with a tiny amount of runefang steel

Its how Kizzdugs does it and I learned to do it from him when pushed for time.

Dantay, luckily for my gold method, I have just enough patience and time for the chest and small shileds. But eventually I'll have to break down and buy some retributor. I've heard too many good things not to.

Dogfender, thanks a lot! I finally got the magnets needed for the arms of the knight, so I'll be finishing those up and polishing the base off soon.

Thanks Bjorn! And I'm almost finished with my lone wolf.

http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah7/codyrstuart/20161110_215159_zpsnswiuhnj.jpg

Just weathering left to do, and I'll call him complete. Instead of doing the whole chest decoration gold, I did the top edge of the "wings" , the lightning, and the top of the grate-looking thing across the belly.

Also tried something with the axe, when he isn't a Lone Wolf, I'll run him as an HQ with the Black Death relic axe, and wanted it to look totally different. So I based it black, glazed it with white, and then drybrushed black to bring the edges out. I'll have to refine it, but as a proof, I think it turned out pretty decently.

My November vow is completed!

I redid the blade on the axe. After looking at my first attempt, I decided to go another route and I am much happier with it.

Now I have the rest of the month to finish out the leftovers from October... and a banner bearer... and magnetizing my knight...
