The Angel and the Machine - Blood Angels/Skitarii Log

Leviathus, your new head concept for the Kastelans is cool. If you don't have a starting point for the conversion, you may want to look into something like http://www.ukge.com/en-ie/Dome-Specimen-Boxes__p-468.aspx those as a starting point, as you wouldn't have to scratch-build as much.

Very nice thread so far and look forward to seeing more.

Hiya guys! Last Sunday I started converting the dreaded Kastelan Robot heads msn-wink.gif Not the hardest job fortunately. On to the pics!

So first up, I began my work on the greenstuff:

Second, some plasticard is glued on...

and I cut some small pieces to function as bolts.

Current result:

Aww, look at 'em, they're almost cute. Still need to sand the greenstuff a bit more to get an even and smooth coverage. So, last thing to do; the air vents. For now, I find them a bit "meh" but it's hard to tell how they are going to look when finished since they're still WIP.

ETL painting time this evening so I will try to finish this conversion this weekend.

C&C welcome!

Heya guys! First half of my ETL vow.... done!

I've changed the basing style this time. The previous brown stone base didn't work very well, so I went with the grey stones for better contrast.

Thanks for looking!

Small update; busy with my second half of the ETL vow:

A quick WIP shot of the Sanguinary Priest. The white armour was quite tricky this time. Dark brown washes made it look dirty so I used a heavily watered down Karak Stone and painted it in the recesses. Those Skitarii robes were a heck lot easier. teehee.gif

Stay tuned for more!

++ETL Update++

Hello everyone! So, the Sanguinary Priest is done. The white armour came out a lot better then I expected fortunately! And I'm particularly proud of his cloak. Pics!

I used some GW's Blood for the Blood God technical paint to get the blood effect on the chalice. Mind you, it looks better and more blood-like in real life msn-wink.gif

Now that the priest done, this will be my second and last vow for ETL IV:

Now that my part in the ETL is finished, I'll be focussing on the Skitarii. I'll be assembling all of 'em the next couple of weeks and make them ready to get painted. So stay tuned! ^^

So it begins. My entries for ETL IV are done, so it's time to assemble the Skitarii! As you can see I've already put a few together. The unit of five Ruststalkers are done and already primed. I will hold off painting the Skitarii 'till a Xenos related project is out of the way though. So you will see updates of grey plastic for a while. Please bear with me. msn-wink.gif
On a side note, I will be magnetising a lot of stuff and do little conversion work here and there, so I hope these post will be interesting and informative for you guys. Perhaps my findings and little how-to's will help out my fellow gamers! biggrin.png

I will also give you an update on the Kastelan Robots shortly. I finally got an idea how to do the airvents on their heads; by drilling them! (Can't believe I've thought of that sooner!)

Stay tuned!

Hello fellow fraters! Here's an update on the Skitarii project:

I've assembled and magnetized the Tech-Priest Dominus!

http://i.imgur.com/TYKPNHo.jpg

I also did a little conversion; He got a robot claw from the Infiltrators/Ruststalkers box instead of his hand that was holding a rod (also known as the pimp-cane). I thought it was weird having him lean on two staves. Now it looks like he's pointing malevolently at his next target. Much better IMHO!

On to the magnetized parts...

When you drill the Tech-Priest you have to be careful not to drill through his thin arms (especially the ones holding the pistols). Fortunately it isn't something you can't fix with green stuff, but it can save you some time. Here are the two area's I've put the other magnets in:

Magnetizing is always an extra step, but I'm glad I did it. No more proxying for me! biggrin.png

Stay tuned for more!

Caution! Xenos picture ahead!

I've bought a Imperial Knight quite some time ago. My plan was to make it a Freeblade knight who is not part of a knightly house. But I didn't had a good feel of how the colour scheme would be, so it gathered dust somewhere in my room. But yesterday it suddenly it hit me on how my Knight would look. So would love to hear your oppinions!

The colour scheme is not really one that you would expect to see on a knight:

PSYCH!!

Yes, Dark Eldar. Now, as much as I dislike these pesky elves, I totally dig dem colours and I think, with a few alterations, they would look smashing on a knight!! So today I took a knight picture off of Google and quickly edited it in Photoshop. The real model is going to be a bit more blue-ish but this will give you an idea how it's going to look like:

http://i.imgur.com/vxs3inx.jpg

Mind you, all the heraldry is removed on this picture but there will be custom heraldry on the shield, banner, shoulder pads and the legs. And with that in mind I thought those red stripes made him perhaps a bit too busy, so for the second one I toned it down a bit:

http://i.imgur.com/fUOM1el.jpg

Here's my initial idea! So what do you guys think? Will it work on a knight? Are the red stripes on his back and upper legs too much?

Alright, back to business! I worked some more on the Skitarii. To be frank, I'm getting a little bit burned out on this project tongue.png I've been dying to work on my Astral Claws again as I've got all sorts of cool ideas and these buggers get in the way! On the other hand, I want to finish this project this year, so then I have all the hobby time to spend on the Claws and the sons of Sanguinius (and some dirty Xenos in between). I'm even considering selling the Skitarii off right after they are finished.... Decisions, decisions.

Aah the live of a hobby butterfly...

Anyways, enough whining! On to the content. Finally sat down and finished the Kastelan Robots! Nothing is magnetized for now as the guns on the top can easily be switched and the hands seem to stick to the arms very well! I'm really curious how they will look when they're painted. Because I think the bronze heads will not go with the white colour scheme very well. Perhaps I will paint them red with a few hints on Forge World Metalica. Ah well, we'll see!

The Cybernetica Datasmith is assembled too but forgot to picture him.

http://i.imgur.com/F4nkyg1.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/vxfbO8k.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/PBHann0.jpg

Lastly, I gently drilled the air vents on the heads (pictured above). It looks a little rough now so it needs a little cleaning up. Although it was pretty easy to do, I had to be VERY careful to not make them too large or ruin the model. So to make sure I didn't drill the wrong spot, I drew a line with pencil first to mark the position and length of the air vent. Then, picking the smallest drill bit, I carefully drilled the air vent. And not too deep, otherwise the holes would be too large.

So the robots are done and ready to get primed! Stay tuned for more folks.

I don't know why I haven't seen this thread before. Awesome work on your BA and admech stuff, looking forward to seeing more. Also, you're my heroine forever for fixing those awful Kastellan heads - your newly refurbished ones look much better.

I see I'm not the only one to do the chordclaw swap on the Magos, in fact, I think you beat me to it. :D  That cane should have been optional, imho, but ah well.

Very nice stuff, very vibrant look you have with the Blood Angels.

I think the big blocky stripe along the back of the knight is the marking of a knight house leader, I seem to recall that they use the stripes on the back to show rank. If you were going to go with the freeblade approach it could be used as part of their background.

Great work, i look fwd to some updates on these guys, your BA's are well done so I'm expecting terribly great things from you... (harry potter msn-wink.gif )

what colours on the Kastellans?...

Mithril

Cheers Mithril! Sorry for the belated comment, I haven't touched the Skitarii for like months! I do hope I can squeeze some updates of these guys between the Badab War project since a few other people want to see the Kastellans painted too haha!

I think I'll paint them in the colours of forge world Metalica. Don't know if it will work on these guys, but we'll have to see.

Thanks for visiting! ^^ The cane is just silly really. He's leaning on his axe-thing already! The chordclaw makes him look so much better!

Oh thanks for the info! Will come in handy :D thanks for the comment Doghouse.
