Back to Badab: Badab War Motivational Thread

Don't know how I missed this thread. Always loved the Badab War and partook half heartedly in one of the previous threads with Star Phantoms, I still have a lot of Loyalist stuff lying around including a couple of Death Company sprues. I may build some Lamenters and possibly work on some more Star Phantoms. Great idea Yak.

Il jump in

Chapter: Minotaurs

Little over a week ago I placed a pretty large order of Minotaurs stuff from Forge World, and Id thought id join.

Already started doing a tactical squad, so I dont know if that disqualifies me, but here is what im planning anyways.

2 Tac Squads

2 Rhinos (or drop pods)

1 Terminator assault squad

1 Land raider

As pledged, one Carcharodon scout squad has been assembled and is ready to report on the happenings in the Badab sector.  More to follow as events unfold.

All scouts have camo cloaks and operate by stealth.  Sniper rifles are issued standard, with only a few close combat weapons or heavy weapons made available.

Corporal Malloris is armed with a chainsword along side his sniper rifle.  His skill with close combat weapons has made him a natural leader in his short time with the scouts.

Three squads are deployed to each theater of interest.  They are teleported planetside and must be self reliant until their scheduled extraction.  Psionic contact is maintained by the chapters Librarians at prearranged times.  Psionic debrief will be conducted after extraction.  The enemies of Man cannot hide from the scrutiny of the Epistolaries of the Librarium.

Art, painting and fluff wise you're going to have a blast with the new formations on the codex. 10th company + Librarium Conclave and a core detachment will suit your army fluff wise. Nice job on the overall theming.

I'm personally thinking of a Demi company + 1st company detachment + 10th company detachment + Stormwing, as I have 98% of the models for that. Fluff-wise we're going to be able to make beautiful lists that bring our models to life in the battlefield!

Can't wait to get home and paint some wathcing this gallery :)

I'm in for the Sons of Medusa, Clan Mageara. I've got the following already collected from the old Assault on Black Reach box:

My next project, with no time limit because I've got limited spending money, is a Devastator squad. Hopefully better-painted than these guys.

I see those Shapeways shoulder pads, but I'm not paying over A$30 for shoulder pads with too many points on the star. Not sure I'd pay that much for the correct eight-pointed design, come to that.

Always good to see a few more sons biggrin.png

Squad Renner of the Pit Viper Elite is complete biggrin.png Their job is to ride in the LR excellsior and either kill anything that gets too close or else avenge it should it fall.

My next objective is going to be my second Siege Mantlet Tactical Squad. For them I am using some snazzy MkIII Breachers I picked up at WHW a few weeks ago. I'm going to give myself until the end of the month again as I knocked these 5 out so quickly.

Also as several people have asked, here are a few more shots of the Strike Cruiser Mother of Invention

She was the result of a mad month I had last year when I found my old poorly painted BFG collection in a cupboard and decided to strip & paint up an Imperial and a chaos fleet. I actually ended up with a couple of spare, if incomplete Imperial hulls and looking at the prices of strike cruisers on ebay I thought it'd be safer to build my own. Parts of note are the legion recon squad shotgun as a bombardment cannon, the hilt of a dreadknight's hammer as the bridge and the crotch-plate off a centurion as top armour. biggrin.png

I completely agree! All the new codex rumors seem to point to very exciting formations that I am looking forward to using. My only worry is that there is no mention of an all dreadnought force (I love me some dreadnoughts). But that was already possible in the old codex and maybe with MOF you can still bring dreads as heavy and elite troop selections.

I also would like to pledge a conclave of Librarians. These three warrior monks of the Librarium are often sent to the front of major battles and their psychic abilities can mean the difference between victory and defeat.

As always, lovely work. I am proud we have all three War Clans representing in this project.

I haven't been able to do any work on my Sons of Medusa as my paint order has not come through yet, still a few days til it's dispatched *grumble grumble*.

Instead, I have begun work on some decoration for my army, they can be used as scenery, objectives, wound counters, what ever I choose. I present the first of my finished markers, a dying Astral Claw Retaliator.

I have an Executioner, a Mantis Warrior and a Lamenter to complete, which should hopefully pass the time while I wait for my orders.

Cheers,

BT

Sorry for the silence guys, been a little busy with work and kendo. Loving the new stuff that everyone has come up with. Hopefully, if everything goes to plan I'll be able to start my combat squad one evening this week. Depends on when my Forge World order comes through.

Also, one thing has been on my mind with Badab, would it be wrong of me to create an Inquisitor model to represent the Ordo Hereticus' presence in the Badab War? I've been re-reading both part 1 and 2 and while there are no real mention of the Inquisition being involved in the fighting, there would be a few Warbands moving through the sector to investigate the reasons behind the schism.

Talonatreyu: Your captain is the best Raptor I have ever seen.... And he's not even finished yet. Can't wait to see Karnus' face. Really looking forward to the development of our 2 captains interaction. "The Stern" & "The Rogue"

Airinhere, Hannibal Adats & Mandaloriano: congratulations Brothers! Another 3 Objective Secured badges will be added to your names on the roll of honour tomorrow evening.

Further more detailed responses will follow soon

My Land Raider Helios "Tyrants Demise" is underway at last. Base coated, washed and awaiting detail and battle damage.

Glad to see people using this thread to re focus on old projects.

Good stuff :-)

I have managed to complete my red scorpions land raider Helios traitors bane and tax squad and sternguard squad both 10 man plus 3 drop pods 2 still to start and almost finished the follow for my red scorpions

Drado dread

Another 10 man tax squad

2x5 man vanguard

Land raider forge world variant

2 contemptor dreads and 2 rhinos

Still waiting on my Blasted Wetland bases from secret weapons....

I'm in the same boat, buddy. Not over bases and not SW, but I dropped a big paint order with Element Games and failed to notice that one of the paints isn't in stock. My Sons have been sat on the shelf since this thread began waiting for the blasted paint.

My biggest issue with completing my Corpse Taker unit is the Servitors I need. I figured out the base model to build them (Mechanicus Tech Thralls with Mitralocks), but I'm not sure if I order them on payday if they will arrive in time to complete the unit by the end of June. The Apothecary Vivisector is done as far as construction is concerned.

The Raptor transfers came today so I busted out what was left of 2nd company Contemptor dreadnought Rakor and 2nd Company Captain Karnus "The Stern" Wielder of the Mortis Talon's.

Thanks brother! I think he is ok haha.... The face didnt come out the way I wanted, also a few other things about him that bother me but if I keep trying to fix him it will probably just get worse blink.png. I have a ton of plans for our companies. I need to shoot you a message about the overall story for our captains and then we can add in the small stuff over time in short stories or something.

Working on the Caestus assault ram now. Base coating takes forever

My camera started running out of batteries so the pics are kinda fuzzy... Which you can tell that by his face.

Excellent Raptors.  I feel your pain on faces.  Such tiny spaces to paint.  I mean, Helmets for everyone!

I love the BFG stuff I see so far.  I am in the process of collecting a proper nomad predation fleet.  I had ordered a great fleet a while ago and it never appeared.  I am just now starting to receive the second wind of BFG forces for my sharks.  I still have to sort out my battle barges.  Maybe Shapeways or Helios.

I really enjoy reading about multiple people working on the same chapters.  Everyones take is slightly different and it really makes the models pop.  Plus the goodhearted and chapter specific replies are awesome.   I might even recant on making all my models into Carcharodons and kick down with a Mantis warrior squad or two that are kitted out for recon missions.  They do have awesome Librarians and some cool camo patterns.  So many nice things to try in the new codex.

This thread is filled to the brim with simply amazing and inspirational work - painting, conversions, fluff - I cannot hit the 'like' button enough.

Room for one more? I'll pledging a Vaylund Cal count-as character, Sons of Medusa Chamber Ferrum (rather than a specific clan).

I've had this partially assembled true-scale Sons of Medusa techmarine character/Vaylund Cal on my desk since last August, completely unable to find a way to finish him. This thread has finally motivated me to finish him. Here he is in his current form, held together by bluetac -

While my pledge is currently just this happy chap, he may end up with some friends in the near future. (Assuming I don't get bogged down with my 30K ETL vow)
