3k - Ultramarines

Hey guys,

So I'm still smashing out potential lists in my effort to finally decide which Legion I'd like to do next. This is what I've come up with for the 13th (it's a bit gun-line for my tastes but I think that's the best way to get the most out of the inter-locking fire rule):

Ultramarines 3000 (2995pts)
Legiones Astartes: Crusade Army List (Age of Darkness)
  • HQ
    • Legion Praetor

Artificer Armour, Digital Lasers, Iron Halo, Mastercraft a Single Weapon, Melta Bombs, Paragon Blade

      • Invictarus Suzerain Squad

        5x Invictarus Suzerains

        • Land Raider Phobos

Armoured Ceramite, Frag Assault Launchers, Multi-melta

  • Troops
    • Legion Breacher Siege Squad

14x Legion Breacher Siege Space Marines, Legion Vexilla, 3x Melta gun

      • Legion Breacher Siege Sergeant

        Artificer Armour, Melta Bombs

    • Legion Tactical Squad

14x Legion Tactical Space Marines, Legion Vexilla, Take an additional Chainsword or Combat Blade

      • Legion Tactical Sergeant

Artificer Armour, Melta Bombs, Power Weapon

    • Legion Tactical Squad

14x Legion Tactical Space Marines, Legion Vexilla, Take an additional Chainsword or Combat Blade

      • Legion Tactical Sergeant

Artificer Armour, Melta Bombs, Power Weapon

  • Elites
    • Apothecarion Detachment
      • Legion Apothecary

        Artificer Armour, Augury Scanner

      • Legion Apothecary

        Artificer Armour, Augury Scanner

      • Legion Apothecary

        Artificer Armour, Augury Scanner

    • Legion Rapier Weapons Battery
      • Legion Rapier Weapons Battery

        Laser Destroyer Array

      • Legion Rapier Weapons Battery

        Laser Destroyer Array

  • Heavy Support
    • Legion Fire Raptor Gunship

      Reaper Autocannon battery

    • Legion Heavy Support Squad

4x Legion Space Marines, Missile Launchers

      • Legion Sergeant

        Augury Scanner

    • Legion Sicaran Battle Tank

      Armoured Ceramite, Lascannons

  • Legion
    • Legion Astartes

      XIII: Ultramarines

  • Lord of War
    • Legion Fellblade

Armoured Ceramite, Space Marine Legion Crew, Twin-Linked Bolter

Tactics for the list are nice and simple: let the heavy stuff focus down threats to themselves and the blobs, whilst the enemy infantry smash themselves on my line, with the Praetor & Friends in their Land Raider acting as the counter-assault unit.

Importantly, I already own the Fire Raptor, Rapiers and Fellbade, so that will save me some $$$. UNFORTUNATELY, I think it would be a shame to go the XIII Legion and NOT use the Praetorian armor sets from Forge World (thereby bankrupting me). Also, I think UM have the greatest scope for variety in a Legion list. I know that all the Legions were quite varied, but any of the Rite of War lists seem to be a perfect fit for them fluff-wise. Maybe this is just a residual part of my 40k mentality creeping in, but they really do seem like the one size fits all Legion where you could plonk any old list down and it wouldn't be out of place.

What do you guys think?

Drop the Frag Assault Launchers on the Land Raider - your guys have grenades already (they're only helpful for charging Terminators).

I'd be tempted to swap the Breachers for a 3rd Tactical squad - saves you 80 points and I think you'll get a lot more out of them. Breachers are great in Zone Mortalis, but unless you're running the Imperial Fists "Stone Gauntlet" RoW, I think they're a bit lacklustre (especially compared to the Suzerains).

Rapiers are gold - maybe grab a 3rd one for some more anti-tank? And you haven't got much anti-air (unless the Heavy Support Squad has flakk missiles). Still, I'd take a Deredeo over the HSS any day.

Apart from that, the general format of the list looks pretty good to me!

Looks good.

I'd drop the Breachers and the Heavy Support squad for a Deredeo as well.

Also consider dropping the Apothecaries and running 10 man tac squads in Rhinos - it works better this way with Interlocking Tactics.

This would free up points for things like Thudd Guns :-D
