Stormborn
So after much thought (at least 15 seconds) i've finally given in to the lure of treads and purchased a Cadian Defense Force box set. My eventual aim is to acquire some bigger tanks (a Machurius Vulcan and Crassus they look cool). But for now I'm going to start small with a Leman Russ Conqueror. Problem is I can't find any mention on GW or FW for Conqueor parts, I will be checking ebay. I assume that it is entirely possible to build a Conqueror and wondered if anyone had suggestions for where I start or kits that I can raid for parts? Thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312200-leman-russ-conqueror-update/ Share on other sites
WarriorFish
The Conqueror is a bit of an IRL relic, back from the olden FW days before we had all the variants we have now so it has all but vanished. It's basically a scaled down battle cannon so you could just chop one down to be shorter or use a bit of piping to create a stubbier barrel. Easy peasy :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312200-leman-russ-conqueror-update/#findComment-4143138 Share on other sites
CoffeeGrunt
Taurox Battle Cannon looks fairly similar, and IIRC has similar stats. Would be a bit small, though, but perhaps it'll work as a starting point? http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/pp282/PoomW/Taurox104.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312200-leman-russ-conqueror-update/#findComment-4143144 Share on other sites
vampyrerodent
You need a Forge World Conqueror turret? I have one that I planned to put on Ebay. Just for you I will get off my but and post it there if you are interested So after much thought (at least 15 seconds) i've finally given in to the lure of treads and purchased a Cadian Defense Force box set. WarriorFish
Taurox cannon is too small, plus would look piddly on a Russ :P You can find pictures of the original FW model online easily enough, it's mostly shorter than a normal battle cannon and only a little smaller on the diameter. CoffeeGrunt
Taurox cannon might look pretty cool on a Chimera, though... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312200-leman-russ-conqueror-update/#findComment-4143223 Share on other sites
Quneitra
Digging through IA1 V2, the Conqueror cannon looks indeed like a scaled-down battle cannon; you could try that, or maybe modifying an Eradicator cannon? As for the Taurox turret, could it actually fit on a Chimera? I'm coming up with ideas.... WarriorFish
I think it'd look great on a Chimera, a good autocannon counts as or just something a bit different :) Converting the Eradicator could work, I'm thinking replacing the end with the battle cannon one? M@verik115
The conqueror is a good looking design, but pretty useless these days. Anyways I would use the taurox cannon as it is pretty much the same thing. Frater Cornelius
If you are handy with plasticard, you could roll your own tube. Not difficult, but can be pretty frustrating at the best of times. CoffeeGrunt
Could even just use plasticard tubing to scratch-build something together. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312200-leman-russ-conqueror-update/#findComment-4143679 Share on other sites

I'd like to see what it looks like. It looks about the same height, but it also looks smaller in terms of footprint...it might not look right when viewed from above? librisrouge
The Conquerer is a great tank for getting battle cannon umps without sacrificing your sponson fire. It's more accurate, thanks to co-axial weapons, and would be great paired with plasma cannons IMO. They pop up on eBay every so often. Stormborn
Thanks for the offer vampyrerodent. I'm going to have a scratch building IA 1 has some comparisons between the various russ types so dimensions should be fairly straight forward to workout. CoffeeGrunt
Which rules does it use? The Leman Russ Conqueror rules from IA1: 2E. It's an S7 AP3 small Blast IIRC, and the tank itself is Fast rather than Heavy. Frater Cornelius
Which makes it worse than the Exterminator, given that it will not stack S7 AP4 as reliably and can not move 6" and fire all. Sure, it can go beyond 6" and up to 18", but that is not what you use a Leman Russ chassis for. Quneitra
Agreed. The Conqueror has a lot of fluffy benefits, but I don't see it being very useful crunch-wise. Its the same price as a basic Russ, and while its main gun is heavy instead of ordnance, it lacks either fast or heavy, which means that you can still only fire one weapon per phase at full BS if you move. A Conqueror could be a nice counts-as for an Eradicator, though. CoffeeGrunt
Ouch, you're right. It's basically a Taurox Battle Cannon and a Russ without Heavy. That's....really mediocre. And at the same cost as the LRBT? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312200-leman-russ-conqueror-update/#findComment-4145583 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
It is a very old tank, or rather rules so it was going to struggle put up against the newer stuff. It is a long forgotten relic for a reason :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312200-leman-russ-conqueror-update/#findComment-4145592 Share on other sites
Stormborn
thanks for all the replies. The only rule I worry about in 40K is the rule of cool, I've always liked the Conq and it will make a great looking comand tank and more importantly an interesting project. Guess if it ever makes it to the table top I could just run as a standard Russ. Assuming the build goes well (I haven't attempted a GW vehicle kit since the Rhino with the roof rack) Ideally I'd like to have at 6 Russes - 1 x Demo, 1x Vanq, 1 x Erad, 1 x Conq & 2 x Standard. First thing is to build the Russ and sort the turret and gun. Hopefully I can get started this weekend and I'll try and get some pictures up. WarriorFish
It does suit a command tank doesn't it? That would be what I do with it; give it some buffs in some form and a lighter gun to represent it's primary purpose of organising the armour to victory. Or maybe that's too much CoH of late? :P I'm keen to see the pictures when you have them :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312200-leman-russ-conqueror-update/#findComment-4145957 Share on other sites
Quneitra
Nice idea, but no Executioner love? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312200-leman-russ-conqueror-update/#findComment-4145968 Share on other sites
Stormborn
I'm actually thinking about picking up the FW mars alpha executioner as my second tank if the build goes well on the conq (and I quit smoking, little reward). Unfortunately, I managed to slice open the tips of the fingers on my right hand over the weekend whilst hoovering my car so work has been delayed. I've heard lots of horror stories about fw vehicle kits over the years and was wondering how easy their Russ and Machirius kits are to assemble?
