The Sons of Jaghati (HHWS) CoC VIII distraction

Well I like the idea of trimming this up and using it as a vexilia for my Marines (feels more tribal)

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/QvHvl7q13lw-EJN1PgA3x2v6P9d5KzJoqoOnaBAdNNA_JT3KUTFjZ1pqxxJ3UJxzf6JYmsh2F-yyPoT2EaNqV_Wlm6Hqd88wAICMmla3sSq26DiwAP-7f0zIEgK_zpsnbsouyef.jpeg

and im wanting more of a Japanese influence as one eye has the mongols down pat and my thinking is that by the 30k time period Asia has pretty much assumed all identities...

plus I want to use this as a decal and it fits the fox and tailed beast theme

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/ES1WX7_ehCP3JSFL6yM-dYhwJwyzkVYrZq8rEQliG9tXAHu6rzXYbmy0DDPxgvc6GxNSvsPLTJJIizeZQBsZJQ0VTdjLxhSnfDmGmoTTIskG_xumyW4vRzMPi68_zpszya0he00.jpeg

but in saying that there will be 9 parts to this army (9 tailed beasts) and once Jaghati comes out I'll be making the 10th tail.

Not to spoil anything but other than the obvious connections I'll be needing this to work as my fluff (still wip) will be based on a destroyed chogorisian tribe which after chondax have been sanctified to use taboo rituals to enhance there Marines by sealing away Deamons inside of themselves (jinchuriki meets exorcists chapter)

So you're doing Naruto marines? That's ah, well. I'm really not sure how to feel about that.  I guess I just feel that the scars have such a rich and open background that you're selling your project short by basing them on an anime like Naruto.

I really feel like the Scars aren't the right canvas for that but It's your army mate, so do what inspires you.

The models look great so far, so I'll definitely be following your project for them.

So I'm leaving it up to the b&c to decide so until the end of September I'll be having a vote on a b c or d.

Honestly, I don't think that any of the designs you presented particularly suit the character or aesthetic of the White Scars, which is a shame. Even during the Horus Heresy, where there is far more scope for individuality and uniqueness, I don't think the emblems you've shown us really reflect the White Scars at all.

There is a Mongolian epic, the Epic of King Gesar, that is shared throughout much of China and Tibet, etc. The story is split up into 9 "branches" in the Buryat version and maybe that would continue the motif of 9 while getting away with the nine tailed fox theme? Just a thought. I think that going either route would be great and I would definitely like to see the fox in there somewhere. There's also a reference to a character "the old hawk" although I can't remember in which version, and that would be an awesome nickname for a praetor.

Allrighty then so I guess I abandon the current course of fluff and go mongol with them.

So I'll spend today looking into nepalese and Tibetan mythology and re pitch everything until I can find something appealing and inspirational.

So motivation will need another source and I'll probably need to adjust lists etc to make it fit with whatever new fluff I decide on.

Well ill be keeping the fox motif, now after doing some research I'm looking at basing this army around the ancient city of ling, and the creation of all things mythos where monkey and Deamon created life but fit it that Jaghati was one of these children the emperor is the monkey and chaos is the deamon.

The tribe venerates the emperor and Jaghati and they were blessed to wear the ancient symbol of there for fathers and that symbol was the 9 tail fox which will represent the 9 branches from the epic of King gesar.

Now I will make each branch a different representation of warfare and base each one on a different traditional creature or Deamon (haven't yet decided) to represent Gods etc from indo-tibetan culture.

So the garuda will be the bases for the aerial elements.

So how does this sit with the community?

I don't want to loose the fox motif but I don't want these scars to be space mongols just like people don't like space vikings (there are so many sub cultures that to focus on one would be childish, and as stated in 28000 years Asia would be more of an assimilation of all cultures in the region, using China and it's provinces as an example they are the same modern culture but it's completely separate traditions from province to province)

So how does this feel?

I like it. It combines your original idea with some put forth by the other posters on here and it shall be all 9 branches of awesome. You could even make the tails of the fox branches if that makes sense. I promised myself I wouldn't do this but the Fourth Branch is Gesar's battle with Arkhan the sun eater and sun eater made me think of Destroyers. Idk the Vth legion's stance on those boys but the idea just stuck with me.

But it sounds awesome honestly. I'm subscribing.

I like it plus I was thinking destroyers fit the theme of mongolian biological warfare.

Plus give them Jump packs throw them in a storm Eagle or just leave them in drop pods and I can still wreck face.

I'll definitely need 2x 10 man destroyers and 2 more drop pods now

So I've been working on the fluff for the background of one of the tails:

The ro-langs; Destroyer cadres

Traditional mythos: ro-langs are created by an evil spirit with the goal of contaminating other humans; they are independent, and do not serve a master. They are created by either a gdon spirit that has broken its oath and become evil, or a bgegs spirit, which is already evil. Once the consciousness has left the body, the evil spirit enters the body before it is buried. Demonic ro-langs have the power to infect other humans by touching them on thehead.

Transfer in this to the 30k setting: traitorous elements within the company that were formally of the lodges both a mixture of terrans and Chogoris and other world's, the Storm seers have been tasked with directing them in battle but ultimately leave them to follow they're own path of destruction and self sacrifice.

Equipped with the Rad weaponry associated with other legions Destroyer contingents, these Marines are aware that they're sanctified task/goal is to cause as much damage as they can before Death claims them.

Glad you figured out your background, I'm sure will get it right, I my feeling on the symbol was that the fox didn't look mean enough, obviously you don't want it to become a wolf.

Is the praetor going to keep hding the sword two handed, my fav thing about that model.

@furstyferret- i have a step by step review if it helps, the kit itself wasnt half as bad as people have made it out to be. Hell i built 2 kits in 2 days.

@The hydra- I'm still not sure on how he will hold a sword, once the jetbike arrives I'll try both swords out (better arrive soon)

@dantay_xv- I'm liking the ideas though it helps me get the motivation rolling, now I'm thinking of these scars as zen Buddhist Marines trying to fit in with a nepalese and Tibetan background rather than straight out mongols.

So I've been working on 2 more tails;

The nagas: sky hunter squads

Traditional mythos: Nagas are snakes that may take human form. They tend to be very curious. According to traditions nāgas are only malevolent to humans when they have been mistreated. They are susceptible to mankind's disrespectful actions in relation to the environment. They are also associated with waters—rivers, lakes, seas, and wells—and are generally regarded as guardians of treasure.

Portrayed as rivals to the garuda both are guardians of sacred religious sites.

Transferring this to the 30k setting: the naga being serpents are closer to the ground, but in traditional mythos they are rivals to the garuda, this makes me feel that there would be a natural competitive streak between the sky hunters and the aerial pilots of the garuda.

The serpent motif would work well as a fast striking cobra bears similarity to the quick hitting jetbikes of the Vth.

The garudas: pilots of the stormbird thunderhawk Fire raptors Caestus Assault Ram xiphons Storm eagles and other light aircraft associated with the Legiones Astrates.

Traditional mythos: Garuda is known as the eternal sworn enemy of the Nāga serpent race and known for feeding exclusively on snakes, such behavior may have referred to the actual short-toed eagle of India. The image of Garuda is often used as the charm or amulet to protect the bearer from snake attack and its poison, since the king of birds is an implacable enemy and "devourer of serpent". Garudi Vidya is themantra against snake poison to remove all kinds of evil.

The Garudas were among the beings (alongside the naga) appointed by Śakra to guard Mount Sumeruand the Trāyastriṃśa heaven from the attacks of the asuras.

Transferring this to the 30k setting: the garuda will be focused on the winged mounts of the chapter, pilots serfs and weaponry based legionaries will all be part of the garuda. Even whilst working in tandem with the nagas a natural superiority complex will be a main focus of these pilots as they believe the freedom at high speed and heavy devastation bought about by their arsenal makes them superior to the kindred nagas which in turn causes resentment which slowly turns to venom in their hearts.

So I still need to refine everything but I'm trying to show the duel nature of the legion astrates and how as apologist has mentioned loyalty is but subjective.

This army will not differentiate between loyalty and treachery, they exist solely to wage war against any that bring disrespect or tyranny to the imperium.

This idea is to bring forth an army of true honourable astrates.

The next two tails:

The wind horse: infantry and support typing squads (recon Assault support Heavy Support breachers)

Traditional mythos: windhorses usually appear in the company of the four animals of the cardinal directions, which are "an integral part of the rlung ta composition":garuda or kyung, and dragon in the upper corners, and White Tiger and Snow Lion in the lower corners. In this context, the wind horse is typically shown without wings, but carries the Three Jewels

Transferring this to the 30k setting: wip

The snow lions: Veteran squads specialist formations & Terminators

Traditional mythos: wip

Transferring this to the 30k setting: wip

So today's my birthday and I decided to take the day off work, now my aim is to finish the drop pod today and hopefully get some more gear.

But even though I still have fluff to work on I got distracted and downloaded ffix for the play station.

Now I'm hoping that cigar malt scotch video games anime and models will make up for the fact I'm now 25 and have to start being more adult like

Darned good books, and definitely inspiration for me to start White Scars should the Space Wolves fail to land in the next year or so... I actually fancy dong an allied White Scar force at some point.

I'm pretty happy with how today has turned out.

Drop pod is looking good thumbsup.gif

Book one is Genghis' childhood and how he unites all the mongol clans under one banner, the rest go into how he started to conquer hs empires and shows quite a bit abouth hs tactics, life and the men he fought alongsde up until his death.

Btw I like hat you did with the Fire Raptor wings, looks like hawks soaring on wind looking for prey to dive upon.
