Doctor Perils
The Sanguinary Crusaders wouldn't be, since they are 2nd founding. I think we're mainly aiming on keeping everybody's original chapters intact, but adding to them with this project. EDIT: I noticed you (Sir Perfluous) were worried about this project changing your fluff: this is by no means necessary, you can still have your original Grail that has the properties you need for your own fluff. This would just be a different Grail than the one we're using for the project Edited September 16, 2015 by Lord Thørn Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313265-the-grail-wardens-a-liber-astartes-group-project/page/5/#findComment-4173177 Share on other sites
Olis
I do have a Dark Angels successor chapter, basing on the paladin archetype, lurking in the depths of my computer, called the Silver Hands. And yeah, I was inspired by the Warcraft's Silver Hand and yeah it has been some years since I worked on them. But, maybe they could fit in. If you're okay with them meeting a sticky end, then fair enough. ^_^ The Knights Resplendant would probably need to be on that list of they end up betraying the Wardens. Do we know what blood-line they are from? Though I'm going to have to admit to a certain amount of confusion concerning the origins of the other Warden chapters. Are they all successors of the unknown chapter? Because to me, in my admittedly nonexpert opinion, it would seem a bit odd if that many successors of the same chapter were all created to guard the one sector. It would probably seem to be a bit of a drain on resources, especially if up to nine chapters were already there. I may be misreading/interpreting things, but it would be fairly abnormal, wouldn't it? As I understand it, some are successors from one particular Chapter - however, one particular gene-line extends three generations: The unnamed ancestor --> the Red Sentinels --> the Crimson Host. However, seeing as we're diversifying the original Wardens, it'd behoove us to vary the 'modern' Wardens, if we can. If you are willing to pledge these Dark Angels successors, would you be willing to change their name and colour ? I think it would be nice to stick to red chapters for the red crusade, and I'm sort of afraid that "silver hands" sounds extremely like "iron hands"... Maybe have a silver scheme with red trim? If Kelborn is willing, of course. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313265-the-grail-wardens-a-liber-astartes-group-project/page/5/#findComment-4173178 Share on other sites

If Kelborn is willing, of course. I tend to agree with most of this, but I don't know if we should create too many successor chapters for any of them, from fear of over-complicating matters. It does mean though that if more people were later willing to add chapters then they could: for the moment though, I'd prefer not having any new members at the moment, until we get all the premises set in stone. I'd be happy to have more participants later, but too many voices talking at the same time would cause confusion. As always, this is open to discussion Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313265-the-grail-wardens-a-liber-astartes-group-project/page/5/#findComment-4173187 Share on other sites
Kelborn
Seems like I have a fetish, right? Don't worry. I realized by myself that another "Hands"-chapter would be quite over the top. I am willing to change their name, colors, etc. but before pledging them to this project, I will have a closer look on them. Need to clarify, if they would fit and what I can do with them. This would just be a different Grail than the one we're using for the project I *was* worried, at one point, that I'd end up torn between my chapter's fluff and my allegiance to this awesome idea, but I'm over it. This project is giving me great new background ideas, a great portal through which I can tie my chapter into the 40k-verse and forces me to come up with a more imaginative backstory to my Grail than "Hey, Boss! We found this awesome grail on this moon! How'd it get here? I dunno. Let's defend it!". So nothing but good, essentially! Arkangilos
Do we have anyone that is a dark angel chapter right now? Because if not we don't need a dark angel chapter founder. So if that will cause problems we can drop it. I *was* worried, at one point, that I'd end up torn between my chapter's fluff and my allegiance to this awesome idea, but I'm over it. Basically we made it so it doesn't interfere with our own chapters, which allows us to make something cool without changing anything. Olis
@Olis: I also forgot to ask if the Silvers Sons would also join ? Ehh... they could provide a supporting role if you like. They'd be in but more along the lines of providing bodies rather than being a protagonist. Arkangilos
I think the first task now is to get the information of all chapters already involved, then we can add more of needed. Olis
Updated list: Original Grail Wardens Blood Angel descent: Sanguinary Crusaders Unnamed/undecided ancestor (Extinct) Dark Angel descent: Silver Hands (Extinct)Imperial Fist descent: Crimson KnightsUpper limit: 9 Chapters ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Okay, so we need to name that ancestor Chapter. How about... the Crimson Corsairs? And we give them a superficial highwayman theme (a la Scarlet Pimpernel and Dick Turpin)? Alright, so the name is a wee bit dodgy but it's a start. Arkangilos
By the way, here is mine: Primarch............... Sanguinius Founding.............. Second Homeworld........... Damoria IV (Originally Fleet Based) Organization......... Slight Codex Divergent (Death Company) Grail Wardens...... One of the founding chapters, sends one squad. Crusade Forces... Fourth Company with elements from first and tenth. Battle Force Angel's Fury in route with squads from sixth, seventh, and ninth companies. One Battle Barge, two strike cruisers, and seven escorts. (All of this is open to change depending on what date we decide for this). +note+ It's a good thing the Dark Angel successor has faded away. As of late m41, my chapter hates all things Dark Angels. Well, at least my second company does. Sir Perfluous
I reckon everybody should begin with a quick overview of their own chapter, then we can tie it all together and add older chapters from there according to what everybody wants for their chapter. EDIT: Here's mine. PRIMARCH: Sanguinius FOUNDING: ? HOMEWORLD: Avalon ORGANISATION: Slight Codex divergance (Crusades) GRAIL WARDENS: Tricky, but for now one company, possily two. CRUSADING FORCE: All companies participate, special Crusades organised. Olis
Following the format Arkangilos has started: Red Sentinels Primarch: Sanguinius Founding: 6th Homeworld: Waste Organization: Codex adherent (except Death Company) Grail Wardens: Descended from an original member, contributes one squad. Crusade Forces: Two first company squads, four third company squads and one scout squad, six rhinos, two predators and twenty bikes. Force led by third company captain and accompanied by one chaplain, one techmarine and one apothecary. Plus attendant fleet squadron. Ooh, I like this How would it work though ? Perhaps the chapters' champions are independent characters that fight on bikes and wield pistols ? However, as you say, the name is probably a bit dodgy, particularly because of yet another use of the Crimson adjective (Crimson Knights, Crimson Host & Crimson Corsairs ?). Scarlet Buccaneers ? Ruby Marauders ? Maroon Corsairs ? EDIT: Great, thanks for the reference sheets, we only need Cesar's and STD's, and possibly Kelborn's Dark Angels' successor Edited September 16, 2015 by Lord Thørn Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313265-the-grail-wardens-a-liber-astartes-group-project/page/5/#findComment-4173270 Share on other sites
Olis
Although I like the Scarlet Buccaneers the most, they sound more like an American Football team rather than a Space Marine Chapter. I dunno. It might grow on me. At least with the Scarlet Buccaneers it's easy to come up with a Chapter symbol - red crossed cutlasses on a white background. Arkangilos
I'm not a fan of the word Buccaneers for a space marine chapter. I think pirates when I think that. Sir Perfluous
We might have to work out, though, how a bike-riding, cutlass-waving collection of Marines spawned all the variations within our chapters - my lot are knightly, for example, which is the polar opposite of swashbuckling (not that there's anything wrong with swashbuckling - quite the opposite!). We may be best off keeping them fairly bland, so that the wild variations in chapters can be better explained, like all the varied descendants of the Ultramarines. Nobody's playing them, after all, so there's no need for them to stand out much. Arkangilos
It can be a normal chapter. The name has nothing to do with how they act, lol. But yeah, I was thinking they would be like most BA successors. Kelborn
Well what we know of them? They do have some successors. They do have something to do with a mysterious artifact called the Grail. They used to keep something under control, like a daemon. They should have a variant of red in their name...Challenge accepted! Scarlet Knights (<- I would use this for my DA chapter, if we still want one) Crimson Templars Red Watchers Blood Wardens Carmine Sentinels ... Although there are many possibilities, I think a variant of red and watcher would fit the most. I dunno. It might grow on me. At least with the Scarlet Buccaneers it's easy to come up with a Chapter symbol - red crossed cutlasses on a white background. To be honest my proposals were jokes rather than anything else Buccaneers are definitely pirates, but corsairs are pretty much the same... I like Scarlet Avengers though . Also, Sir Perfluous and Arkangilos, you could probably consider having the [?]s be descendents of the Sanguinary Crusaders ? But I do agree with the [scarlet Avengers] being very codex friendly. The proposal of having special pistol-wielding, bike-riding champions was to stick with Olis's idea of highwaymen, but it's by no means an obligation. EDIT: Well what we know of them? If I may, I'd prefer you not to use Scarlet Knights (in this context), because it's pretty much the same name as the Crimson Knights Having two very similar sounding chapter names isn't a bad thing, but it's not great when they're both used in the same project... Same with using Crimson yet again The other ideas or a combination thereof could work though.
