Right, apologies for the silence. Other parts of the forum have required my attention. From now on, I'll try and be more present around these parts and get things done ;)

First post update is incoming, stand by.

So more than a month after the Expansion began - during which everyone else has produced some great Sons of Dorn - real life cuts me some slack

and I get to start my project

Presenting my first WIP photo

Hopefully I get more free time between now and Dec 15 to actually finish these rascally renegades.

This Expansion seems to have died a little, time to bring it back to life on the eve of BaC preorder.

Good to see some life here again :) I've been assailed by real life issues again, hence my absence around here. Hopefully things will ease up during the next few days!

I'll go and update the first post with the new vows and completions! Keep up the excellent work :tu:

I was hoping to have an update today but my white base coat is beading and going on unevenly, resin and plastic. It's the first time I've used vallejo white primer (with an airbrush) so I'm not sure if it's something I'm doing, the paint isn't suitable for an airbrush or it's just too humid for it. So annoyed right now, I'll have to strip them and get a can of white primer instead, and then it'll be at least two weeks before I can prime them again :/

The beading might be due to your models having a greasy surface, either due to too much handling or not being washed and still having a coat of release agent on them. Might want to strip them, wash them in warm, soapy water and try again. If that doesn't work, then perhaps have a look online and see if others have had the same problem.

You could try applying a Matte/Satin Varnish Beforehand to see if that helps at all with any surface issues.

That's a good idea, I might try if the weather ever clears up. I have a can of varnish but it's in a state of constant drizzle outdoors at the moment and the space I have inside has poor ventilation for can fumes. I do have fairy power spray for stripping paint so I'll give everything a good scrub and try again. I've had those models for a year+ so I could have handled them a few times with greasy/sweaty hands and not realised it. I'll give everything a scrub a few days before painting now and invest in a box of gloves. If round two doesn't go well I'll build an outdoor shelter for varnishing!

I strongly disagree with Slipstreams idea -not because it's his, naturally :) but because of my experience with trying it, which I did a couple years ago and it was a disaster. On some parts, the greasiness had the same effect on the varnish as on the primer/paint. On other parts, it seemed to work, only to have the paint come off at a later stadium, ruining my work.

Just be sure to always wash your models beforehand, resin or plastic in warm soapy water, have them dry properly and completely, and then prime them.

Also: Thinning Vallejo primers with their thinning agent helps with shooting it through an airbrush. But I prefer to use GW spray can paint and then tidying up with vallejo primer through my airbrush. The reason is Vallejo primer doesn't have the acetates that GW Spray can primer has, and which desolves any leftover grease somewhat. GW spray can primers (or Army Painter or Tamiya which are fine too) are just superior to airbrush primers.

My update with a Mortis Contemptor. A terran son that donned the name FURY when interred in the sarcophagus. Also it's really freaking hard to spell with a paintbrush.....

Sorry I haven't posted any progress for quite a while now, guys. I did finish my Devastator squad, but then the rumours about the HH:BaC box got confirmed. I plan on mixing the parts of at least one of those MkIV tactical squads with my IFs, so the tactical squad I vowed has to wait. I did invest some vacation days in next week, so I'lll be free to paint, paint, PAINT next week. :D

Also, I've ordered and received the Imperial Fists transfer sheet. http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Imperial-Fists-Transfer-Sheet

My god, if you play IF, BT or any other IF second founding chapter, you need this. It's glorious.
