Something white, something blue, red and black too

Recommended Posts

Hi there. I've been a viewer of this forum for a few years now but I haven't really contributed myself at all, so here goes.

I've been through a fair few armies since starting the hobby about 14 years ago, and tried a fair few chapters and even the choice of imperial fists wasn't the most recent original plan, It was originally Black Templars (which I'm hoping to use as a fluffy primary force) and these fists were a supporting detachment to fit in all the stuff that I wouldn't be able to use in a crusade.

Kapow! Right in there with a photo to your face with no introduction! (first photo post so hoping I've resized and changed the settings to be appropriate and viewable)

So yellow I thought was a much brighter colour that makes me feel that these are more worthwhile to add. These need touching upon the black, scrollwork and purity seals need finishing, basing and transfers still so I'm waiting on the imperial fists transfer sheet or I'll have to find some of the GW space marine multi chapter sheets hiding around me somewehre.

(Edited to reinsert picture that had broken)

An update!

Firstly

22354487760_6b0f50e0c7_b.jpgTemplar brethren done by obsdian quacker, on Flickr

I'd consider these as somewhat done, but the lightning bolts on one and the symbol on the leader's arm, I've forgotten about and didn't notice until upload (oo-er). But the basing! I've always been a bit stuck when it comes to bases in that I've always thought that there has to be something that makes the models stand out. However looking at an armies on parade entry last weekend, the basing used was simple and effective and that made me actually do it.

And the current thing I'm doing is,

Headless assault marines.

Happy Christmas all!

Couple of months of no updates, things happening, work and christmas all got in the way of producing something worthwhile. I've only managed to do little things and saying that...

they have heads. With having a problem with actually finishing stuff, I've gone ahead with some autocannon people

And with christmas I've gone ahead and treated myself, so more imperial fists stuff and I may have gone a teensie weensie, iddy bitty off the imperial fists wagon, just a little, bit, I swear.

Because white is a different shade of yellow

and a Khârn (I don't know how that accent on the a got there, but it did)!

To be honest this just isn't a change on a spontaneous whim. World Eaters were my first pre-heresy army way back when betrayal and Angron came out but I could never feel satisfied with how the white came out. The white always ended up somewhat grey and the shading didn't look natural. Now by jove I think I've done it!

Not much progress made this week.

Only things to show are a nearly finished apothecarion detachment and primus medicae

Person 1, 2 and 3 are apothecaries and 4  will be the primus medicae, though I'm not too sure how to mark him out as someone special other than having a chirurageon (?) which I think maybe a bit unwieldy for someone who still gets into the thick of it. Number 1 being the newest addition has not seen battle so is pristine, (not finished).

Next up a block of grey

just waiting for a nice clear not windy day to spray that.

And finally a thing to ruin the whole heresy era thing.

So, I'm aiming for something after the whole party at Terra. I like the idea of Khorne worship has not completely took hold of the legion, so white and blue are still the legion colours (better to show the blood and grime), a legion army can be somewhat used, Khorne bits and units can be subtly mixed in and I can use some of those 40k components.

An update!

24538382524_27a902d802.jpg21022016503[1] by obsdian quacker, on Flickr

Sicaran kind of done done! I'm happy with how it turned out after being a bit nervous on painting large flat areas white but I loosely followed the red scorpions land raider guide in Imperial armour masterclass 2 and image searches of sicarans and they helped.

Bloodthirster has hit a snag

I don't know whether to go with the traditional axe and whip or the 2h axe and painting the fire under the hoof has got me stumped. I like both but the weapons options but the 2h axe does look more choppy.

And with the realease of the wulfen last week I had the idea that maybe with a bit of filing and chopping and changing, they could make good possesed. So following the Gal Vorbak rules in massacre I've decided on a leader with twin lightning claws, 1 with a bolt pistol and power weapon and 3 with bolt pistol and cc weapons from the raptors box.

I tried it out

Widdle peanut head from wrathmongers (blu tacked on), make me think 'errrrr I think I'm going wrong somewhere'. Maybe a chaos space marine horned helmet would be better.

The smaller head actually makes him look more imposing, sortof like comic book characters tend to have tiny heads- they look more "heroic" in pictures. I'd switch out that backpack though, it's definitely wolfy and nothing else.

@ Ch@oz I'll keep that head for one and mix in some others. I've removed all the skull fetishes/totems and the wolf head vents and swap them for some normal ones.

@ Cpt_Reaper I'll probably buy some soon

Not much progress this week considering I've had most of the week off.

25008357250_01496cff7d.jpg27022016508[1] by obsdian quacker, on Flickr

Found a guide on fire that I think I could follow so the hoof fire has been base coated. The brass on the axe has been basecoated and washed, teeth and bandages haven't been started and the chest shield and circle thing and pauldron haven't been started yet. Camera flash has made the wings more grey than they are.

Also

To try and help explain the daemons in the army I've decided to add some word bearers. I've got a Betrayal box to do so they'll just be word bearers and I got some Gal Vorbak and Zardu Layak coming.

Anyway seriously I do have a plan with what I'm doing It'll hopefully come about soon or I guess I'll be...

eating my words.

Update!

A word bearer tactical squad from B@C

Including a baldy

The start of some Gal Vorbak

And finally a World eater tactical squad

25581799182_7425ac0c43.jpg11032016510[1] by obsdian quacker, on Flickr

These still need blood misting and I would've rather had some chain axes but I've got the forgeworld chaos space marine 10 chain axe set. However I'm not too confident with how I'm supposed to put them in hands and sticking them the thigh of every single member makes it look a bit stale. Might get the anvil industries chainaxes for the next lot and mash them together for a nice selection.
