This will be the last report on this thread, as many who have been waiting for this thread can tell; time has not been on my side for the last few months. If in the future I have the time again I probably will be running a more hybrid list so will build a new thread.

I will also apologize for the shortness of this report, the game was long… very long (even with getting a friend to help move models). It was a very fun game, but I didn’t take that many photos and the turns were very similar.

Anyway with all that said...

GAME ON!

So at the top of his turn 1 just as he is about to start moving his units, I decide to check the level of allies between Tau and the Imperium.. And much to my joy this results in him having to roll a d6 for every unit to see if they can do anything. Sadly the Knights and Storm Surges are ok, but 2 of the marker light teams are stuck. At this point the 3 knights advanced leaving the tau units 12” away. The shooting phase hit. All my Medusas, one of my Leman Russ’s were wiped out. As was one squad of men, another 3 squads were reduced to solo melta guns.

Then in my turn all my infantry stormed forward with a whole mess of shooting I was able to put some hull points of damage on two of the knights, taking the best shots I could along the length of the table. I also was able to use my artillery to remove one of the drone teams.

In his next turn his knights advanced again, and 2 battle suites arrived from reserve. In his shooting phase he was able to take apart my artillery and rest of the tanks, and a few infantry platoons (forget the exact number).

At the top of my second turn more infantry runs on the table, and my opponent realizes that this game is going to take forever, although short of heavy support units now I have quite a lot of Meltas in range of his knights. And I was able to destroy one of them, and with some assaults but a number of hull points on the other two.

And this was the theme for the next 3 turns, I Would run on 4 to 5 15 man squads on my turn he would destroy one with interceptor they would close with a knight and score a hull point, or kill a battle suite. In his turn he would fail to table my forces so more would re-spawn.

In turn 5 we rolled to see if the game ended, we did and it did… we counted VP’s and it was a Draw given that this game was the last one in the league we both agreed to ignore the roll and speed play a turn 6 to see who would score more points, he drew the kingslayer tactical objective and one that he controlled and my cards couldn’t be scored.

Conclusions

It was both a very close game, and a tabling. All my units must have died 4 or more times, but I did destroy all of the knights but had only put a few wounds on the storm surges. I should have put all my tanks in reserve and driven them on the table so they would have at least been able to shoot.

But at the end of the day both armies were made of the finest cheese currently available, and my opponent made the better tactical choices, and it was a good game.

Also before I sign off massive thanks to my friend Ryan who was my second pair of hands for this army… I would put the first few guys down in a unit and he would finish setting them up so I could move on with other tasks, it was a great help and saved a lot of time. (He also loaned me one of the platoons (I was running 240 re-spawning guardsmen)

Sorry to see this thread ending, it's always a good read!

I'm glad that your renegades did comendably against te cheese.

Best of luck!

Thanks, I hope that I can do some more battle reps, but I expect that I will not be running a "pure" R&H list again for a bit

Ohhh what a great thread! Shame that it's over, I really enjoyed it! Pairing Tau with Knights is really stupid imo, unless you're playing in a tournament. I'd never dream of playing that in a league, but each to their own I guess.

Great looking army you have, and great many wins you reaped!

Thank you for sharing them with us!

I do want to point out that a good deal of money was on the line for the game. So it was basic a top table Tournament game.

Thanks for your support!

This isn't a full battle report... but wanted to make a quick update

Last weekend I was able to attend a Single Day Tournament.. I took a very fluffy list for the Iron Warriors. The list I ran used a mix of Chaos Marines and Renegades and Heretics. Both using the Purge detachment for the 4 Heavy Support options, which I then filled with wyvens and Earthshaker emplacements

The list worked quite well, I won 1 first game against KDK... (Including a moment when the Helbrute gave a Knight a loving Death Hug) then I played a Tau Elder player (Riptide wing + Forgeworld Riptides and then a hole pile of jet bikes and hornets) which I was able to mostly wipe out... but he got the win as well my army did damage but wasnt able to put the final blow on the last of the riptides... and the other game was against Imperial Knights (all FW knights) good game but as he got victory points for destorying heavy support choices, so was a very uphill game for me...

Under the cut are more photos for the event

Very cool Uveron! Defiler and multiple Forgefiends. Dont see much of that these days. How did they do?

Good.

They work well when you can spam lots of AV 12. So with the Wyvens, Cimeria and Helbrute, so caused a bit of threat overload. (The two games I lost were close and were against players who are both in the top 5 players of the state [we have a state wide league in oklahoma]. Saying that I wish the Forgefiends Autocannons were AP 3, or even AP 2 when the Demonforge was in effect. Its also worth noting that the 4 hull points on the defiler works very well to ensure that it can absorb a lot of firepower.

So yes they died all the time, but it let the chosen and the big guns do the work.

Absolutely true, AV12 spam can get it done. The nice part being your AV stuff mostly a legit assault threat too I guess. Defilers have a bad rep these days, be nice if they made em AV13 in line with Grinders

Sure 13 would be nice; but running about 30/50 points cheaper would be best as I would rather to be able to get a 5th one in the list over have them take a little longer to kill.
