EDIT: Seeing as the number of contributors on this project is increasing, I just thought I'd leave a list of those involved for ease of reference:

After purchasing half the Betrayal at Calth box, and large amounts of discussion revolving around the Tenth's use of Mk IV, I have finally decided to fix me some Mid-Istvaan Iron Hands. A friend of mine shared this box with me (with me receiving the Word Bearers side); he is using his as Iron Warriors under Golg. Despite his having problems with joining B&C, he hopes to be able to start an account. At the point that he does, this thread will become our joint Hands vs Warriors thread. So, there, something to look forward to.

A shot of the models I have built so far (pre-priming, obviously). With my 20 marines, I'm going with 10 tacticals and 2x 5 man veteran tacticals (to give me the chance to expand these squads with my preferred mark of armour when I order some over Christmas). One point is that these six were built at my friends house, so I did not have access to my bitz box (thus, no bionics). The rest will be slightly snazzier.

The contemptor (who needs a good name) is armed with a Kheres and plasma blaster. The reposing done is simply a cut on the leg and some greenstuff.

His head comes from the Cataphractii kit.

What do people think I should do with Kurtha Sedd? Perhaps a master of signal?

A good start, how will yo being paint the dreadnought head? Unusual choice but I'm interested to see how it goes.

Bare headed head on a Dread.....very unusual!

Very nice so far, the bare head is very unusual but to be honest I think it works well for Iron Hands.

Progress looks nice, the dread is very interesting, I would say the head is a unique choice, I think I seen some use a human heads on the venerable but the contemptor is very different but cool, id go for some coils or pipes running in the back of the head or something although that may give a more librarian type impression.

For anyone unsure, above is an Iron Warriors master of signal (wonder where you got that idea ) with a converted volkite serpenta (from a melta pistol, I believe). He was the test model for Swarmlord's Iron Warriors that he built and painted as a siege breaker before BaC came out, hence his stylish suit of Mk VI armour.

My very own master of signal is in the works, along with a pair of sergeants. Expect pictures from my end tomorrow.

As you can sorta see in this picture, he (along with all other officers in my force, I have decided) has a Legion numeral on his shoulder pad instead of the Clan Morragul symbol.  This is for both a fluff and an I-can't-be-bothered-to-freehand reason.

Loving the darker look you have going there, the power sword too. I'm pleased they aren't shiny.

Swarmlord and I recently had our first game; a three - one victory to him with only two models dead on my side!  It was not a complete loss for me though, as it highlighted I needed some units that were able to get stuck into combat rather than hide at the back of the board and abuse unit coherency rules to render blast weapons useless.

 

To that end, I've built my combat-dedicated squad.

Looking good Swarmlord; I especially like the glow on the power weapons that contrasts nicely with my green.  One thing I would suggest trying is painting the base trim black to darken the base (just a suggestion though, so feel free to disregard!)

 

I've done some greenstuff work and would like some feedback from the community.  I've added this chain to the dreadnought and was wondering if it fit with the legion's tone/looked good enough to stay on the model.

Before you get excited about any immediate updates from me, I must disappoint you. However, I do have a question.

I have recently been chugging through Horus Heresy Tempest, and I was considering an (eventual) addition of some a Renegade Militia - Tainted Flesh Horde Cult army. I am wondering how fluffy this would be, so any help/knowledge there would be appreciated.

There are lots of pros to this as well, with fear, 6+ feel no pain, zealot - and overall good cannon fodder. However, to take these I have to have a 120 point base HQ. Does this outweigh the pros?

What do you guys think? Feel free to share all opinions!
