Brother Vidius
With the release of Betrayal at Calth I thought it's about time to start a new legion. I've got roughly 6k of Iron Warriors so decided I'd need a loyalist force! I toyed with a few legions before settling on the Dark Angels. They were my first ever 40K army many years ago and ever since then I've had a soft spot for them. Obviously at the moment they don't have their own rules, not long to wait on them though, so I'll be running Pride of the Legion. I picked up two of the new boxes, DA Chaplain, some DA pads, some helmets and also a box of the 40K vets. I've not yet written a list but my troops choices will be two veteran squads. The first squad is made up of Terran veterans: http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh567/Vidius22/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_0104_zpsjrdr8tim.jpg http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh567/Vidius22/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_0105_zpsefqc4apd.jpg http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh567/Vidius22/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_0106_zpsn6lrz2ya.jpg http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh567/Vidius22/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_0103_zps61scs9ic.jpg I've mixed in parts from a few kits as well as resin parts. I want them to look unique! Second squad will be a Calibanite squad, which will include robed marines. Here's my Praetor, he's just the model from the Dark Vengeance kit witha simple head swap. Pretty basic but he will do for the moment. Will probably be relegated to a veteran sergeant in the future: http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh567/Vidius22/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_0101_zps1gukoezz.jpg I'm going to be using an airbrush to paint the black power armour. Does anyone have a reasonably easy recipe for this? I'm a complete newbie when it comes to airbrushing. Thanks! Charlo
Looking good and very DA. Some nice kit swapping. I think the DV model works really well too! Dantioch
Looking forward to seeing some Dark Angels, its looking good so far man! If you're looking for airbrush tips concerning DA look over at Battle Bunnies, I'm sure they used FW's recipe for their Legion in a day post with an airbrush. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316349-dark-angels-22nd-company-a-project-log/#findComment-4232719 Share on other sites

LongGone
Or you can use the dark gray washed down to black scheme that's being used in the 'The Scouring and the Templar' (or some such) thread. Its purrty. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316349-dark-angels-22nd-company-a-project-log/#findComment-4232910 Share on other sites

Brother Vidius
Thanks all! Â Just working on a Calibanite squad of veterans at the moment, this time with double melta and a powerfist! Going to have them robed for the most part! Â Thinking this will be a challenge as I'm not great at painting black so looking forward to testing my skills Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316349-dark-angels-22nd-company-a-project-log/#findComment-4233465 Share on other sites
Saphrael
Welcome to the glorious First! Always good to have more DA, but prepare for perpetual disappointment. It's our lot in life. I just desperately wish the Betrayal at Calth box had Mk II or Mk III armour. I'm not a fan of Mk IV, but desperately need a cheap way to pad out my DA. Currently 10 marines with chainswords, bolters and all DA upgrades costs AU$332.63 with shipping Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316349-dark-angels-22nd-company-a-project-log/#findComment-4233581 Share on other sites
Slips
*shuts the train carriage door, Padlocks it*  Welcome aboard! Get yourself comfortable, you're never leaving again!  :p  No but really. Welcome and have fun! Just a few more months and we'll know when DA/BA/WS are getting their rules so you've joined at the right time! Brother Vidius
@Saphrael-yeah I prefer MK II and III as well. I think they fit the DA really well. I've mixed in a few parts. I'll also be using MK II and III marines in a few tactical squads. @Slipstreams-thanks for the welcome although I have been "part of the ship, part of the crew" for a while now I've got 6,000pts of 30K Iron Warriors as well as a couple of other 30K forces. Looking forward to seeing what rules the DA get! Brother Vidius
Just a quick update, I've managed to do some work on my second Veteran squad. These are Calibanite marines, hence the robes!  http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh567/Vidius22/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_0115_zpsb4lclo9x.jpg  http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh567/Vidius22/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_0109_zps7iizubw6.jpg  http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh567/Vidius22/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_0120_zpsxygqgaqg.jpg  http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh567/Vidius22/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_0119_zpsnlzbrkwz.jpg   Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316349-dark-angels-22nd-company-a-project-log/#findComment-4235758 Share on other sites
Brother Vidius
Just a quick update. Work has slowed unfortunately due to work. I'm aiming to get these guys based over the next couple of days and then begin work on the Cataphractii. Was hoping to get the first squad primed and then break out the airbrush but the weather has taken a turn for the worse so not sure if I'll manage this. Â I'll need to order some airbrush paints, what would you guys recommend? Cloud Runner
Vallejo air colour all the way - often doesn't need much thinning and covers beautifully. Â Looking forward to see how these come out, and great to see someone with a similar idea to differentiate between Terran and Calibanite :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316349-dark-angels-22nd-company-a-project-log/#findComment-4240284 Share on other sites

Brother Vidius
Thanks all! Â I shall be placing an order after Christmas, will be adding some armour to my DA. Most likely in the form of a Spartan to transport my Cataphractii. I'm still undecided on weapons for them but thinking two plasma blasters, couple of combi plasma and some chainfists. Think a lot of plasma fits the DA hence the inclusion. Cloud Runner
I'd go with Volkite's personally - much better fit with the ancient tech slant and plasma overload was a very poor 3rd ed mechanic to differentiate in my opinion. Â Plus volkites look cool!!!! CHOOOOMMMM!!!! The Pounder
Off to a great start. Don't see many Dark Angels about. The kit bashing has gone really well. Brother Vidius
Time for an update! The weather has finally turned so I have managed to get a squad primed and ready to paint! I've decided I'll do the infantry by hand and then attempt to airbrush the vehicles. I also have some weathering powders I'd like to use. What colour do you think for the bases? I normally do a grey base but might not suit the dark colour of the armour. Cataphractii squad: http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh567/Vidius22/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_0172_zpsl6d6xnba.jpg http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh567/Vidius22/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_0173_zpslttfqwbb.jpg These are very WIP, still some cleaning up to do on them. I've ordered more of the spiked pads. This kit is absolutely stunning! A real pleasure to put together. Thanks for looking! Brother Vidius
Here are my first two test marines. I don't like painting black so this is going to be a challenge. Not sure I'm 100% happy with the outcome. The bases will be done in a reddish brown colour and weathering powders will be added:  http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh567/Vidius22/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_0180_zpskgruwoxx.jpg  http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh567/Vidius22/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_0181_zps7w42yhtn.jpg  http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh567/Vidius22/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_0182_zpsx91vnp3f.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316349-dark-angels-22nd-company-a-project-log/#findComment-4249382 Share on other sites
Supe robot gangster #1
Mate. I wouldn't worry about doubting your black painting skills! They look awesome! Can't wait to see more! Brother Vidius
Thanks! I'm thinking a reddish brown base and then add some weathering powders to the marines legs! Supe robot gangster #1
So kinda like a red desert kinda theme? Similar (in colour) to the bases done for the skitarii? I think that would contrast well with the black!
