Your painting style is really fresh looking, tempted to try my hand at NMM at sone point. I would say looking left works alot better for the pose of the medicae primus, like he has spotted someone that requires his assistance. Nice non-imperial truth tree btw :)

I really like your painting style. It's very expressive. It's almost like watercolours.

Thanks LCS, that's kinda what I was going for, completely different from the "cartoony" style I've always painted in before

Go for it Soric, you never know til you try, and this is one of my first attempts at NMM and I can't speak highly enough of the Painting Buddha videos on YouTube.

Currently at 2 votes right and 2 votes left.......next person gets the deciding call!

As an extra, here's a quick WIP now that the parts I was waiting for from eBay have arrived....please meet consul Makai Thanatos, master duelist, the golden prince, member of the Talamasca, Moritat of the 156th, wielder of the dual choom

The MDRC approves, brother. :tu:

Thanks Olis, and as an extra Christmas present (and because I thought I'd reward myself after finishing 3 tactical marines) I hope you'll enjoy this....

looking good, suitibly emperors childeren aproved B)

Thanks Iron Bars. Glad they meet approval!

Fantastic work. Looking forward to seeing more.

Well your in luck.....

Looks like Christmas is being very productive this year. Built a few more tacticals, converted a cataphractii reaper cannon form the heavy flames and TDA assault cannon, and I think I've got a handle on my Praetor too....

Cataphractii

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/emperors%20children/8D751A80-0E71-4471-A782-44A5F67559C9_zpshwwhpvmz.jpg

And my Praetor. Built from Asterion Moloc's body, Phoenix guard terminator lower legs, cataphractii arms, pads from Steloc Aethon, hands and sword from the sanguinary guard kit and a white scar head. The cape isn't attached as the creases and shape need tidying and sharpening once it's dry.

"Talk to them. Tell their stories. Show the Imperium that, despite the Warmaster's best wishes, some of us still honour the name we carry and the eagle we were gifted with. After all this is over, they must know the truth of what happened."

And so in the weeks and months following the I went to them. I asked, they answers. They talked, I listened. They told their stories and I made sure they were told to others. They were proud of who they were, and hated what their brothers had become.

What started 16 weeks after the betrayal at Istvaan, when Sergeant Aello discovered the truth in the ruins of the Urgall Depression and ended at the walls of the Imperial palace will be lost in the annals of history, but it important that someone remembers.

They were the 156th company, the Emperors Children. They call themselves the Silent Choir. They are some of the forgotten heroes. These are their stories.

-The Perfection of Silence, The lost 156th. Dorian Isope, Remembrancer 314th expedition.

Squad Aegium, 10th tactical squad.

Pict captures relate to their deployment on Kalinstad (314/7) after the capture of the the Primagos and the destruction of the Tibannopolis.

Sergeant Aello, 10th tactical squad

Aello was the oldest astartes serving in the 156th, and is seen here in the artificer armour common to the officers serving under Commander Clyme, his golden faceplate denotes survival of the Panas Rift, where the power axe "whisper song" was presented to him by Captain Adonai of the IX legion after his squad were instrumental in the recovery of wounded astartes.

Legionary Philotes, Vox operator 10th tactical squad.

Recently "promoted" in order to curb his individualistic streak and teach him that the sum is greater then it's parts.

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/emperors%20children/22E52987-5F5D-4D2A-B608-70E499B8B47E_zpsbjpvgler.jpg

Legionary Metis, 10th tactical squad.

Known as "the unlucky" due to him never having ended an action without an injury, usually self inflicted.

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/emperors%20children/B1536929-C212-4263-AD63-77865B95DBE7_zpscahqphjo.jpg

Legionary Ophion, 10th tactical squad.

Pictured as usual without his helmet, Ophion joined 7th just before the ill fated expedition to 314/3 (Trion) and was one of only 16 astartes to survive.

Legionary Agrius, 10th tactical squad.

Agrius, along with Leonus and Thoas, is one of the original members of 10th and was one of the first group of aspirants inducted from Chemos

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/emperors%20children/8154D003-BE6D-4850-ADA5-DDB3DC138097_zpshuwhe7n4.jpg

Legionary Leonus, 10th tactical squad.

"The mentor". He has refused promotion to the veteran cadre on several occasions as he feels his experience would be better used teaching the newer aspirants

Legionary Thoas, 10th tactical squad.

Originally from the Marinos arcology on Chemos, Thoas was also a survivor of 314/5, though the long months of recovery have left him a quiet and more contemplative soul.

Legionary Adikia, 10th tactical squad.

Long an exponent of the "perfection through unity" ideal, Adikia was earmarked for the legion chaplaincy before the 156th were sent out to the Mandragoran Sector.

Legionary Eris, 10th tactical squad.

Seen he reloading his bolter, he proudly displays blue skull helmet decoration awarded for marksmanship. He will eventually be rotated into one of the companies seeker squads when Aello approves the transfer. At the moment though Aello seems reluctant to loose his "good pair of eyes"

Legionary Nomos Vexillia 10th tactical squad.

Nomos carries the squad's Vexillia, which he regards as both an honour and a curse. The squad's Vexillia was presented to them by Fulgrim himself, and is a constant reminder of their father's betrayal.

Veteran squad Sicyon, 1st Terminator squad - the Palatine Guard

Squad Sicyon is made up of the handful of veterans within the 156th fully trained in the use of Cataphractii Terminator armour. They made up a unique detachment known as the Palatine Guard, a role both functional and ceremonial. Essentially they were not only the bodyguards of the members of the Talamaska but also acted as senior advisors and mentors for the council and the other astartes.

Veteran legionary Lelantos, Squad Sicyon. Lelantos excelled in the duelist matches held by the Thebian society, and it was winning the laurels 3 years running that prompted Sergeant Hemera to sponsor his inclusion in the Palatine Guard.

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/emperors%20children/77FF0475-99D9-4381-AE68-DF2601411E0F_zpsgpqtngmy.jpg

Veteran legionary Cacus, Squad Sicyon. Pict capture show Cacus during the firefight in the courtyards as heck the Tibbanopolis, armed with his prototype assault cannon. While it had a much slower rate of fire than the larger Kheres pattern, he preferred a weapon with a higher suppressive rate of fire to the standard legion reaper autocannon.

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/emperors%20children/9661C467-F20F-4D50-BEDF-DD5AF6F99768_zpsukeokuxe.jpg

The Talamasca.

"Proud? Proud? Of course we were proud. Look at what we accomplished. Look at what we achieved. Even the Phoenician's flagship was named after it. But pride leads to hubris and we have seen where that road leads. So no I will not be prideful. I will listen. And then WE will act. As brothers, not rivals."

Commander Clyme at the formation of the Talamasca.

-The Perfection of Silence, The lost 156th. Dorian Isope, Remembrancer 314th expedition.

Commander Clyme commands the 156th in a unique way amongst the third legion. All the Centurions under his command form a council called The Talamasca (lit. Masque of equals) which acts similar to Horus' mournival. Clyme reasoned that it was the sycophants and fearful that led his legion down this path, allowing their pride and superiority to sway Fulgrim to betray the Emperor. By having a council of dissenting voices meant that any actions would be taken not in pride, or in haste, but with deliberation and thought. He reasoned that perfection was still achievable, but it shouldn't be at the expense of his brothers.

Codicier Dikaiosyne, The Memory, advisor to the Talamasca.

Dikaiosyne stands apart from the Talamasca, due to his preternatural skills. He felt it would unease his brothers on the council if they thought he could or would influence a vote. As such he has taken on the role of advisor and memorialist, hence his title as The Memory of the 156th.

On the battlefield he is accompanied by members of the Palatine Blades, who have allowed him admittance as they view his precognitive abilities as a true test of their duelling skills.

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/emperors%20children/542937AE-DE05-4C76-8FEE-F602940D2F46_zpse0onkyu2.jpg

Makai Thanatos, The Golden Prince, Moritat.

Thanatos' seat on the Talamasca was a contentious issue. Quiet and brooding, many said he was unsuitable as his quick anger led to many honour duels. It was Dikaiosyne that eventually proved the wiser voice. "Sometimes anger is needed, and when the quietest voice speaks it usually leads to the loudest actions"

He favours duelling with pistols rather than swords, claiming there is more art in the perfect timing than in the flailing of blades, and his preferred weapons are a pair of volkite serpenta called Alitheia and Nomaika (lit. Truth and Justice). His armour is decorated with flowing parchment listing each and every duel he has participated in, hand written by scribes before each battle.

So, another week goes by and here's where I am. Managed to build a few models, but it's to damn cold to spray primer at the moment so paintings on hold for a bit.

I decided that I'd build marines from different units so that I've got some variety as another stint of 13 tacticals will probably kill me!

First up are the sergeant and one marine form the Legion Assault squad. Sergeant is built using Kurtha Sedd's legs (left over from my legion Vexillia conversion), sanguinary guard body and jump pack, the rest from B@C. The marine is mostly B@C, with an SG jump pack, and arms from the legion destroyer kit.

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-01/B6B8E1E3-863C-4E46-854B-5A454712AD61_zps9xnsbedj.jpg

Second we have the first two members of a Legion Breacher squad. Taking inspiration from JackDaw's Seraph, these two are built using the Legion Destroyer bodies and heads and B@C arms.

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-01/368E274E-A371-4013-8929-607727ED67DC_zps76mgx5ny.jpg

Did some more work on the boarding shield for the breachers too. This started as Asterion Moloc's Storm shield, I just removed the Minotaur symbol, and re sculpted the underlying Aquilla. It still needs some GS and tidying up before it's ready to cast (as I'm going to need a minimum of 12 of them!)

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-01/99034CB3-ADA3-4530-A62C-AFADD44A7BA0_zpspbf3bjmi.jpg

Lastly, and I'd like to thank KizzDougs for the inspiration for these, two members of the Palatine Blade squad. Wanted to give some variation so I mix and matched the arms and added the jump packs from the Legion Destroyer kit.

@ Vonplutz. Thanks for looking mate. Quite an easy one really. They're just the standard B@C bolter arms, all I did was cut the left forearm off an rotate it upside down. Glued this to Tityos first, then the right arm, then the bolter at an angle between the two.

Hope that helps

Sorry for the lack of updates, life has been hectic and I've had a bit of hobby burnout (I think the 13 tacticals took a bit too much out of me!)

However....the mojo has returned so there should be an update this weekend. And some more wonderful forgeworld resin is on its way......

Right, so after the burnout it looks like I'm back in the groove, although I think that has more to do with kizzdougs, kuruma and the other 3rd legion guys for giving me bucket loads of inspiration (seriously checkout kizzdougs, kuruma, Lord commander eidolan and 01rtb01 threads if you haven't already)

Some updates (been on a building spree) and a few ideas I'm shamelessly stealing from kizz's thread

First- 2 tactical veterans

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02/999469DA-03CF-4F7D-82E0-47723FE21D31_zps3ggqiusf.jpg

The last 7 members of 2nd tactical

First 5 men of 5th assault

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02/66646F4A-15F9-4D2A-AF89-F98BDB0708A8_zpscdp7jrfh.jpg

4 more Volkites for 10th support

And more work on my praetor and his base

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02/CAD57B5D-6285-427A-99BD-79228C3B0DAF_zps1zh8qhf3.jpg

Now ideas-

10 breachers built using palatine blades and this shield (when it's finished and cast)

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-01/99034CB3-ADA3-4530-A62C-AFADD44A7BA0_zpspbf3bjmi.jpg

5 destroyers built using kakophoni

Tartaros command squad using Phoenix guard with tartaros weapons

More to come when my forgeworld order arrives (palatine blades and kakophoni- anybody needs sonic weapons from them let me know)

You know, I've really got to get around to making an 'MDRC Approved' stamp image. That would be handy to have. More choom is always good, brother. :tu:

Looking forward to seeing your breachers painted. I'll start building my own this week, 3rd company style...

Thanks Olis...you and the guys at the MDRC are a constant inspiration......I fully blame you for getting me bitten by the Heresy bug!

Awesome work, dude! Everything is looking great. The Praetor is especially impressive :tu:

Thanks kizzdougs, high praise indeed from one of the masters

Your more than welcome for the plug, always happy to point people to my influences...and as you can see below I've changed my idea on the breachers, and the two who were have been "promoted" to Veteran Tactical squad...

Really nice Praetor so far brother!

Thanks Argent, he's been a pain to pose right, ended up redoing the cape over a piece of thin cardboard coated in superglue and just sculpting the creases (can't remember which frater had the idea originally, but it was on here somewhere....)

Update time since I know it's been quiet around here, so I thought I should show that I have actually been doing things!

Been busy building a few things and have finally started painting again *gasp!*

Please excuse the crappy iPhone pics, my light box is packed in a box somewhere at the moment....

2 members of the breacher squad

I've also ordered the stuff needed to cast up the additional copies I need of their shield, now that I'm (finally) happy with the resculpting of Asterion Moloc's shield

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-03/A8A072E6-898A-49D7-871C-4EDFFCDF25A8_zpsraentodp.jpg

And then I got thinking about the idea that's been floated around in a few 3rd legion logs destroyers made using the kakophoni. Now since my boys in purple are loyalists the whole point of sonic weaponry just doesn't fit, but I love the look of the models.....so this was my thought.

Assignment to the destroyer cadre of the 156th, like many cadres within the IIIrd legion, was original seen as a form of punishment, taking up dishonourable weapons and tactics to restore a warriors honour, or to wipe the shame of failure away.

Very little has changed since the outbreak of the heresy, although members of the 156th have taken the unusual step of volunteering to join the destroyer cadre, seeing it as way to shed the dishonour inflicted on them by their brethren.

When he joins the one of the squads of the cadre his arms and armour are taken and stored by the company's techmarines. He is then presented with the armour of the penitent, armour passed to him from the previous incumbent which has been repaired, but is not decorated or embellished in any way, for the penitent carries the dishonour of all.

This is, perhaps, a unique feature of the destroyer cadre of hate 156th, in that the penitent gives up his honour, his brotherhood and his identity to take on the burden of the betrayal of his brothers, putting these aside until he either dies in battle or Thanatos decrees that he has performed an honourable act. So far, in the two years since Istvaan, only 4 penitents have returned to their units.

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-03/93B36A3D-2070-42A2-93AC-7AC1E85824CD_zpscjyxcunm.jpg

Lastly, some paint. Threw some on the Breacher Sergeant, the purple and the gold are blocked in, but still need some blending.

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-03/6BF96F96-E061-4574-A7B7-84521D31CC9C_zpsrzw5bpjn.jpg

Well this has been a productive week.

Firstly before anything else, something has been bothering me about the paint scheme (no I'm not jumping ship to another legion, I like purple and gold!). The original idea was to have the armour look reflective but I just wasn't feeling it. It was then I saw the space marine diorama in WD93 and it was like someone flipped a light switch.

It didn't look reflective because the highlights weren't bright enough. So taking a deep breath I picked up the white paint and one of the "finished" tactical marines. 20mins and a LOT of swearing later this was the result

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-03/F99139FC-7F4C-45F2-A638-0ABAD0455AD5_zpswenq9hnf.jpg

Now that was the look I was after.

Just got to go back and do it to all the finished marines.

Now you've all seen these 3 before but both cataphractii and the culverin have had the white high light applied.

Now onto why it's been a productive week. Using the refined scheme I've now finished the first demi squad of 5th assault

The breacher sergeant (should be making the mounds for the shield this weekend)

And the first of the destroyers built using the kakophoni (glad I finally found a way to include these fantastic models in with my loyalists)

Nice idea for the destroyers; fits the ideals of the third well.

That's what I thought when I was going through the unit ideas. Glad to see it makes sense!

Another week and another update. Not much done as the Mrs has claimed lots of time over Easter but still managed to claim some time at the hobby station....

Another of the cataphractii done, nearly up to a usable squad

First of the tartaros command squad, decided to use the Phoenix guard as a bases, normal tartaros weapons and the death mask head from the sanguinary guard. Also built a cape similar to the praetor's.

Speaking of my praetor, couldn't resist finally adding some paint to him. Purple is 90% done, needs some glazing and fine tuning, then onto the nmm gold.

Any ideas for the capes? I want to do a filigree pattern but am stuck on the colour as I don't want to overload the minis

Oh and what's this?

That'd be tests with the casting kit I bought. The larger mould is the shield for the breachers, the smaller is the sergeants pad from the palatine blades. Hopefully if these work out ok then there may be more bits in the future.

"Pride, arrogance and hubris. A terrible combination in a mortal, then how much more terrible in a transhuman? Well we had all that and more, and as I stand here amidst the ruins and death my eyes have been opened to what our legion has become.

Istvaan is but the starting point. Whether if was fate or happenstance that delayed our arrival here I will never know but whatever it was has shown me the path we must follow. Our legion has lost its way since reuniting with our "father" and we must return back to the true vision the Emperor had for us.

And I know what must be done.

Fulgrim must die."

Commander Anteus Clyme, Praetor of the 156th company at the ruins of Istvaan III

-The lost 156th. Dorian Isope, remembrancer 314th expedition
