MosesGunn's 13th Company Log

The Wolves were for the longest time my only army, being what first attracted to me to 40k back in the 3rd edition. Since getting back into the hobby I've alternated between working on them, the Iron Hands and the Orks depending on how I'm feeling on the day. With the release of the new Wulfen imminent  I've been motivated to get back to working on my 13th Company army.

I spent most of the last few years or so stripping and remodelling my old models into something that doesn't look like it was assembled by a 10 year old. Before I dropped out of the hobby for a decade I was trying to update my force into a 13th company for the Eye of Terror Campaign and I hope this log can keep me motivated enough to finally finish the damn project as I have an unbelievably slow working pace!

All of the models are very much a work in progress, even the ones with paint on them! Looking forward to hearing your comments and criticism as they're some great Logs on this subforum that have been an inspiration! All of the models on this first post were made and basecoated a couple of years ago when I was just starting to get back into the feel of painting and modelling, you can find my more recent work on the Iron Hands subforum.

First up two Grey Slayers.

This one's inspired by the old Index Astartes picture of pre heresy Wolves. I'm a massive fan of MkVI armor and intend to have an entire squad built up this style.

First of a squad that will be armed with CCW and Bolters. Bolt pistol here is more for rule of cool than anything!

By that same token I'm modelling all of my StormClaws with two close combat weapons, though obviously if I ever get them to the table top I'll just roll them as regular CCW and pistols.

This guy's the first of my "new" models that doesn't cannibalise the remnants of my first army. While I like the pose, my modelling skills have definitely improved since then and I'm not really sure if I want to strip him down and rework some of the problem areas like mold lines or green stuff gaps.

Hopefully I can get some new stuff up soon! Thanks for looking!

Snowed in today, so time to build more Wolves!

Still need to greenstuff some of the gaps on the gun arm. The skullcrusher shoulderpads look great but are really too big for marine arms and are a hassle to fit appropriately. Might run this guy as a pack leader as I'm otherwise happy with how he turned out.

Stormclaw based off one of my original models. Arm was in an awkward pose to begin with so I tried to make it seem as if he was gearing up for strike whilst blocking with his shield.

Work on the Mk Vi Grey Slayers squad continues. Running these guys as my shooting squad and consequently they're less blinged up as the close combat weapon squad to provide a contrast.

keep it up! =D

Cheers Triszin. Just got a look at your Wulfen conversions. They're much improved altogether and even the faces which were putting me off look much better in pure plastic than the flesh tones that they were officially painted in. Been debating purchasing the box soon

Love that round shield on the beakie. Where did it come from? Great pose also!

Good to know that the pose paid off! The shield is from the Dwarf Iron Breakers set. I grabbed the bitz off Ebay.

Finally have had some time off to get back to modelling. Here's one of my original Stormclaws that's been repurposed with the help of a saw. A lot of the work like scraping off the insignia and the accessories is to cover up the haphazard modelling of 10 year old me and the damage from removing the arms

Stormclaw. Did some minor sculpting on one of the arms to get the position I wanted. As I was working off the base of the original part it was a useful exercise to increase my skill with greenstuff. Still need to fill in some gaps however.

Loving the use of dwarf shoulder pads and axes :0

I have been using the shoulderpads as knee joint for terminators and such like, but the way you use them coul look great on my scouts :)

Keep up the great work

Oh the dwarf shields look great as combat shields, I tried them as storm shields but felt they were too small for that (on terminators anyway PA its about right)

Your work is great! I love the feral aspect these guys have due to the non-Space Wolf bits. Awesome job!

Thanks man. Glad I'm able to get that across successfully. Wanted to depict the 13th Company as having a more run down and wild aesthetic instead of just being Wolves wearing scavenged Chaos Marine armour.

Here's one of the "Beak" squad of Grey Slayers pointing in the general direction of some serious heresy.

As you can see he's still unfinished as sadly this looks like it's going to be my last post for a while. Thought I could finish him off, but with my move out date coming very shortly I've had to pack everything up and put it in storage. I'm moving to a new town and as it's probably going to be a temporary thing due to work, I don't want to bother moving all of my stuff. Maybe if I'm settled after a few months I'll be able to get some the models I've completed out of the storage unit and finally get them painted up. Thanks for all your comments though! Appreciate it!

Cadia destroyed. Guilliman awakens. And I actually get some work done. Dark times indeed.

Rune Priest. Experimenting with using molds for scenery using milliput. Think it worked out well here.

Variety of in progress marines. I paint in sub assemblies ("paint" he says!) so they're still missing bits and pieces. Trying the top knot look on the MK IV helmets turned out pretty good, but I do wonder if it's too much a Sons of Horus motif rather than being associated with Wolves.

On a side note I hate assembling the MK III legs. Had to use the knife, pelt and pouches to cover up the glue burns for my first try.
