If we're very lucky, they'll do updated rules for him as a Blackshield. They did for Cassian Dracos. :)

I'd just run a Biomancy Librarian counting as Morturg. And take some Mechanicum allies led by Calleb Decima!

Hey guys, I don't know if this has already been answered or clarified in the thread, as I just stumbled upon it now.

Basically I am quite new to the Horus Heresy rules side of WH but my gaming club is thinking of running a campaign, and I am attracted to the kind of retribution driven Black Shields... so my question basically is where can I find a copy of the army list if anyone knows which book it is in?

Book 6 has the Blackshield specific rules and you'll also need the LACAL red book.

So Orphans of War got better/interesting with the new FAQRATTA. According to the PE rule the unit only needs one model with it in it, and the new FAQ says that things like PE activate against a mixed unit so long as it contains the correct type. So long as you have a Sarge and the enemy Squad does, thanks to the Orphans Characters having Preferred Enemy(Characters) you get PE against it.

Though if you have a friendly unit nearby you get to reroll 1s anyway... Good if you lose a character I suppose.

Updated the list I posted a while back, thanks for the feedback. I've ditched the Destroyer squad and replaced it with a standard Assault Squad. Freeing up the points let me add a Forge Lord with a Vox for better deep striking (listed as combi-bolter, because Battlescribe is dumb), and some other things here and there.

Still ~40 points to play with, open to suggestions. I should probably use it to fit in 20 more Levies, but I think I'll have a hard enough time converting and painting the 40 already there...

Let me know your thoughts!

  • 2 weeks later...

hi all

really interested in starting a small blackshield force around 1500pts so looking for some c&c as really confused by the options

looking to do a droppod army with chymeriae trait

so thinking

reaver lord with terminator armour

terminator squad as body guard in Kharybdis assault claw (shiould be about 8 terminators)

10 marauders, sgt has fist, 7 shotguns, meltagun and ariah flamer all with axes in dropod

10 marauders, sgt has fist, 7 shotguns, meltagun and ariah flamer all with axes in dropod

roughly should be 1500pts

what you think? workable or am i going in wrong direction

Edited by daismith906

Aye it works out!

I think you'd be best off with one squad with melta and the other flamers, so to focus your units, give the sarge a combi melta too if you can.

Combis on the Terminators are a must too.

If someone brings a spartan with Ceramite though I'm not sure what you can do - save chain fisting it and then be charged by the occupants, but thems the breaks - T5 should hold you out.

Got a 2000pt Chymeriae army all sorted out just needs assembling and was wondering on advice with how to play it

This is what I got

Hq

Forgelord 155

Boarding Shield, Melta Bombs, Cortex Controller, Cyber Familiar, Rad Grenades, Power axe

Elites

Apothecary dethachment 220pts

2 with power swords, jump packs and Augury Scanner

1 with power sword and augury Scanner

Contemptor cortus  Dreadnought 150pts

Multi-melta and meltagun

Contemptor cortus  Dreadnought 150pts

Multi-melta and meltagun

Troops

Blackshield Marauder Squad 272pts

11 mauraders, 2 meltaguns, chieftian with thunder hammer, bolters

10 Assault marines 210pts

2 hand flamers, champ with power fist

10 Assault marines 210pts

2 hand flamers, champ with power fist

Heavy Support

Deredero Dreadnought 255pts

Aiolos missile launcher, Hellfire Plasma cannonade

7 Heavy Support Marines 215pts

missile launchers

Castellax class Automata 165pts

paragon of metal, frag grenades, pariah flamer, dark fire cannon

would it be a good idea trying to find the points for a 4th apothecary  to go with the heavy marines? I may be able to find the points if i dropped the power swords on apothecary but having extra ap weapons does sound nice. I understand I lack viable long range ap2 anti tank since more relying on the close range of meltas and assault squads (STR10 powerfists) to deal with vehicles, however I could swap the darkfire cannon for a multi melta and instead take off the meltaguns on dreads for lascanoons instead if that would be better

Does anyone use the deathseekers option?

I've been going over a lot of the legion fluff trying to find a legion that I really like and I've ended up with Iron Warriors and World Eaters. Unfortunately another guy at club uses WE so I don't want to copy him completely.  Now I know there were plenty of smaller units of marines that were left as garrison troops so I figured why not use that mixed in with the Blackshields rules?

Anyway I've come up with a theme based on the idea that during the Great Crusade a small company of War Hounds were left on world to finish crushing any opposition and as a garrison. As it's earlier in the Crusade their equipment is MKIII power armour, cataphractii armour and their limited tanks are Mars pattern.  When the call went out to unite the World Eaters the Red Banda (as the company was known) didn't travel to meet Angron and thus didn't repaint their armour or get the nails, instead they continued their duty as good Terrans and remained garrisoning the planet.

After Istvaan a ship bearing loyalist Iron Warriors arrived bearing news of the betrayal which sparked a widespread panic as hot on the heels of the loyalists came a force of Word Bearers intent on silencing them before word could reach other loyal armies.

The Red Banda marshalled their marines and Imperial Army allies and aided the fleeing Iron Warriors, destroying the two traitor frigates in a desperate boarding action.  Seeing first hand how far the Word Bearers had fallen into madness, Rodrigo, Primus Pilus of the Red Banda, swore an oath to hunt down any other traitors they could find.  The remaining Iron Warriors under the command of an ancient deredeo dreadnought vowed to join them as brothers, choosing to repaint their armour as a mark of respect and honour.

So that's a rough outline of the fluff for the army. I plan to use MKIII, cataphractii and mars pattern stuff for the older War Hounds and then MKIV for the Iron Warriors who joined them.  I'm also using Tallarn infantry for militia.

At 2000 points the army looks like this -

Death Seekers for the Blackshields and Warrior Elite provenance for the Militia.

HQ

1 Centurion with Early Crusade Honours.

1 Militia Force Commander with iron halo, melta bombs and charnabal sabre.

ELITES

5 Terminators, 2 chainfists, 2 power swords, 1 powerfist, plasma blaster. Mounted in a Land Raider Phobos with multi melta.

2 Quad Mortars with shatter shells.

TROOPS

9 Marauders, 1 pariah flamer, 7 shotguns, chain axes, chief has lightning claw. Mounted in a Rhino.

11 Marauders, 2 plasma guns, 8 bolters, chain axes, chief has bolter and powerfist.

20 Militia, lascarbines.

20 Militia, lascarbines.

HEAVY SUPPORT

6 Heavy Support Marines, missile launchers, sergeant has artificer armour, nuncio vox, bolt pistol, chainsword and augury scanner.

1 Deredeo with ailos missile launcher, heavy bolters and autocannons.

1 Leman Russ Demolisher, multi laser.

What do you think?

Edited by Sentinel Guy

Yeah for sure - really, you'd want the likes of Dreadclaws for them etc

Personally, when you have Militia on your side I'd drop the missile squad, shatter shells perform the same task already much better and this frees up points.

Cool list though since it is a army of dark compliance you can't have more Astartes units than militia units
  • 1 month later...

Not sure on the WoW, but here's a draft:

Vigilator

10 sniper veterans, 2 pariah flamers

Mortis contemptor, 2 kheres

Mortis box, 2 TLAC

Mortis box, 2 TLML

5 Marauders, MM, Rhino+MM

5 Marauders, MM, Rhino+MM

5 Support, 5 pariah flamers

5 Support, 5 pariah flamers

5 Seekers

Primaris, 4 kraken, augur

Leviathan dread, deathblossom

2000 flat. Good?

Small 5 man squads just really doesn't work in 30k, they just get wiped off the table too quickly. Plus it's also more expensive to have two squads of 5 then one of 10, so I'd condense your infantry units.

Leviathan footslogging is also fairly mediocer, I might consider a long ranged heavy support option like a deredeo which is just flat out better than the mortis contemptors.

I was looking at it and thinking about taking large maurauder squads with apothecaries as the basis for my army.  I then want to support them with dreads and other related vehicles(got my leviathan, deredeo, etc) so I plan on having the techmarine consul type as my one consul. This also gives me access to some mechanicus robots which would be extra awesome. I dont want to just be Iron Hands light however, more like the leader of my warband had his troops "Modified"

So I am torn on choosing between the chymeria and the Outlanders for the army rules. On one hand it would be fun to have teleporting rad marines. I also like to think of the outlander thing as them "phasing out" like the old necron special rule so they both work for my army theme.  On the other hand durability while being slightly slow would also work,

One of the biggest hurdles I am running into is how I should equip my mauraders squads since I want to get to building.  Chain axes are a no brainer but when it comes to things like bolters is it worth the points or just not bother? Should I go 15 or 20? Transports? Etc. Having two attacks base makes the pariah bolter very appealing since they will be getting three attacks each even when they shoot so its like getting two extra str 4 ap 5 attacks for two points every turn.

I am also considering small recon squads with pariah bolters as a solid scoring back up/ light supporting fire. Give them recon armor for the infiltrate and just stick them in cover out of LOS
