Black Shields - Loyality unknown (ideas collection)

I love the idea of a Black Shield unit revolving around a LoW and all the support that went with it.

My idea goes back to when the first Typhons were distributed beyond the IVth legion.  But by Perturabo's demands, each of these first-run heavy siege tanks would remain manned by Iron Warriors, acting as small embassies to Iron Warrior sovereignty.

Cut to the Horus Heresy and the first Typhon delegated to the Ultramarines is still in operation.  Formerly the Katastrofi, now the Will of Konor, none are sure what transpired when word reached the distant 73rd Company regarding the Heresy.  None are even sure what words those were.  Perhaps the Iron Warriors used their position of power to wipe out their support elements.  Perhaps the Ultramarines overtook the great engine, overcome by feelings of fraternal betrayal.  Or perhaps the two came to an understanding, finding solace in their mutual abandonment and loss of purpose.  All that is known is the massive siege tank has been seen laying waste to loyalist and traitor alike, both its Ultramarine colors and Iron Warrior lineage stripped away, maniacal laughter heard emanating from within its chassis.

So there I was...I got back into Warhammer. I have a job that can actually support my gaming addiction. I have a wife that likes to play. And I decided Age of Darkness was for me. I went back and forth between Death Guard and Raven Guard. And then I see the first promo pics of Black Shields.

By the Emperor's Golden Toilet Plunger! This is the army I have wanted to build all my life. Haha! Thank the throne I have not started slinging paint at my little grey guys.

Xin I feel your pain.

It's too bad Heathens isn't here. Wish I would've known why he hasn't been able to be on here but I won't be nosy :/

He would've LOVED this army.

It would never been painted though because he would've kept changing the army laugh.png

So now to wait for the book and decals... hoping the transfers match the picture plates...will bring alot of life to black armour..

And i need to start hoarding mk v armour!

Whats peoples views on the Row for blackshields??? Any good or just useful for adding some flavour

Why did I go down this thread?! As if it wasn't difficult enough to choose a. Legion. Now I have my head spinning with hybrids, too....

Think about it, you can do them all now in one convenient army!

Well, I was planning on an allied Detachment for my Dark Mechanicum anyway and wanted some renegade Iron Hands. And maybe some Iron Warriors... And could legally sneak in some Predation Fleet Terrans... And magos biologis upgrades...and paint it black... And....and...

"T'was on the black sands of Istvaan that our fates were broken. Ferrus was weak. Horus is mad. This Imperium is collapsing, attempting to save it would prove worthless. There is only one thing to do now, which we had always lived for: we shall bring the Storm.

We had been sons once. Sons of Albia, of Medusa, of Ursh, of Olympia, of Ryza. Sons of Terra and sons of the Stars alike. But we were taken from these mother-lands and sent across the galaxy as the sons of madmen. Now that these fathers have set their own empire ablaze, we are sons of none. Though we are still of Iron, we shall walk once more as a storm, grinding corpses under our feet. Though we guard the dead, we shall be tyrant's ruin and rival's fall. Though still kings in battle, devouring worlds as they fall to our hands, we shall remind them that we are War-Born."

—  Vardek Talaron, marauder of the 'Storm of Steel' renegade detachment. Accent suggests Medusan or Barbaran heritage.

I'm considering expanding upon something Alan Bligh said a few years back - "How do you know there isn't more than one Alpha Legion" lot of possibilities there. Given it's implied that not even Alpharius or Omegon are aware of just exactly what the entirety of their Legion is doing at any given time, or indeed if these Astartes are a part of their Legion, there's rich scope for some action

So a Alpha legion that Alpha legions the Alpha legion?

Greek? Transliterated as "énarxi".

nuke.gif"We use the weapons the imperium is to afraid to use..."nuke.gif

Theme for the army is phospex, rad, and xenos weapons. With special guest: a mutant or two.

I was aiming for the same thing. Astartes are weapons after all, why should they be constrained in their ability to wage war?

Well, there is a warband name right there!

It was mentioned an event or two ago that Blackshields also encompasses things like the Terata and Raptors, mutants and things. Is there anything reflecting that in the rules?

One of their army-wide characteristics, 'allegiances', you can choose is Chymeriae - mutations and unstable outputs:
