Soldier of Dorn
Nice work, both the fluff and models I look forward to seeing what you do with the Vigilator Thanks, bro. Your Night Lords are pretty awesome, too! Anyways, update time. I managed to paint another one of I Grenadier a couple days ago. Meet Trooper Brannagh, the squad's first bolter boy. Fluff (and better pictures!) will come when all five guys from the first post are painted, mostly because I'm too lazy to do it right now. http://i.imgur.com/VWJbdMb.jpg Also got the Vigilator glued together. The shoulder pads are a temporary measure and have tack holding them on. Just waiting for the pad jimbo's sending me and then he can hopefully get some paint. Have I mentioned that I really love this model before? Because I really love this model. A lot. http://i.imgur.com/ydiqHOg.jpg Finally, got a base pretty roughly mocked up with tack. I'm planning to put in some more fallen debris around the body and paint it as a IV Legion Breacher. Probably gonna be saved for whenever I get round to building my Praetor. http://i.imgur.com/nr6YAiK.jpg Some bad news, though. I had ordered a Imperial Fists Legion Command set fairly cheaply through eBay and it was supposed to turn up pretty soon, but yesterday someone in my area found a bunch of my opened mail sitting in front of their house including the box the order was supposed to be in. Needless to say, I'm pretty bummed at this particular turn of events. jimbo13
Sorry to hear about the Command Squad dude. Tough break. But that thirty year marine is going to look spectacular. Soldier of Dorn
Sorry to hear about the Command Squad dude. Tough break. But that thirty year marine is going to look spectacular. Yeah, it sucks eggs about the Command set, but life goes on, y'know? Not much can be done about it now in any event. Thanks about the Marine! It would be much worse off without your shoulder pads, so thanks again for those! I promise this'll be the last update I post of it before it gets painted (unless I take a picture of it with the aforementioned pads, in which case I'll do one with those. Let's say second to last just to be on the safe side. :D) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/319687-the-burden-of-duty-the-end-of-the-beginning/page/4/#findComment-4371375 Share on other sites
Soldier of Dorn
Didn't feel like painting today, so built something instead. No idea what he'll be used as on the tabletop (yet) but he's probably going to represent one of the Captains of the Battalion. Mostly just wanted to use that awesome shoulder pad from the Imperial Space Marine, and this guy was the result. Soldier of Dorn
Very nice posing! Makes me kinda want to see a seeker squad in your beautiful yellow :) Thanks mate, posing is probably the biggest factor in my kitbashing at this stage in my hobby career. I'll probably start doing some Seekers at some point during the next couple months, too, so that should be something. I'm thinking that I'll model them after this guy and do them in primarily Mark VI armor. Soldier of Dorn
And now for something a little bit different. You know how sometimes inspiration just suddenly strikes and you just have to do something because an idea's burning its way out of your brain and into the physical world regardless of whether you help it or not? Yeah. That's what happened to me today. Meet Musashi, Swordsmaster of the V Legion, Khan of the Blade in the Horde of the Dawn, Unrivaled under Heaven. Hopefully I can save him for a couple months until the appropriate March of the Legions. I doubt that I'll have the willpower to do that, though. Aeternus
Oh, that's nice. That's very nice. The pose works ridiculously well, and is certainly one of a kind. Giving up on your Fists ay? Also, a good seeker you've got there, again with a nice pose. I really like your use of the (vanguard?) legs, I've been looking for more active legs so those might be a possibility. I might have to steal the idea of marine7312000 stealing your idea... Edit- on the offhand, cheers for the compliment. Looking forward to seeing what's made a mess of that iron warrior, and Brannagh is perfectly gritty and brutal looking. :tu: Edited April 22, 2016 by Aeternas Soldier of Dorn 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/319687-the-burden-of-duty-the-end-of-the-beginning/page/4/#findComment-4373314 Share on other sites

Soldier of Dorn
Geez, I leave my thread for half an hour and there's already a scuffle beginning. :D @Rune: Thanks! I've really been focusing a lot lately on characterizing models through their poses and I honestly think this guy is my favorite model I've ever thrown together. Glad you like it. You really think he could pass for a Son, though? I really thought that the horsehair at his waist would make him look more like a Scar, as I don't know any other legion that has that particular aesthetic device. But I do get where you're coming from. @marine: YOU'LL NEVER TAKE MY PRECIOUS! IT'S MINE, MINE, MINE!:P Just kidding, brother, steal away. :tu: @Aeternas: Thanks, bro, and no, I'm not giving up on my Fists, the Scar's just a quick one-off (for now...) Ohmigawd, I cannot tell you enough how much I *love* the Vanguard legs. Easily my favorite legs in the entire plastic Space Marine range, they're just so... good. If you're looking for more dynamic legs, I highly recommend the Vanguard (though the newer Assault Squad box has some pretty sweet leg positions too.) AnD like I told marine, steal (or 'borrow' :P) away! If I didn't want to share my ideas I wouldn't post! Once again, thanks for the feedback, everyone! It's absolutely invaluable to me and my motivation , and I could not ask for anything more. Although I am slightly suprised that no one's called me out on my historical references yet. ;) Edited April 22, 2016 by The Psycho marine7312000 and Aeternus 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/319687-the-burden-of-duty-the-end-of-the-beginning/page/4/#findComment-4373357 Share on other sites

Soldier of Dorn
@Pheidias: Ha! That's a great vid. Steal away, brother, steal away. Well, unsurprisingly, I was not patient and started painting the model. Guess I'll have to figure something else out for the next few Marches. Here's a PIP with some of my extraordinarily sketchy freehand. I'm not the most focused painter, so I tend to jump around a lot when blocking out colors and washing and layering, leaving large amounts of the same color in wildly differing states. You obsessive compulsive types might want to shield your eyes. jimbo13
I'm loving it!!! You should do the blade in a contrasting transition like a blue to white or purple to white that way it really pops!!! I actually finished him (mostly) about 5 minutes before you posted, but I might go back and revisit the blade. Anyways, without further adieu, here's Akara Musashi, Khan of the Blade, Veteran of two Wars on Terra, and Sword of the V Legion. I'll do another post with fluff and some touchups sometime in the future, but for now just have a quick look at him. Soldier of Dorn
We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming... I returned home today to find an envelope with my name on it sitting on the coffee table. Opening it, I found the Mark VI Imperial Fists Shoulder Pads that Jimbo sent me the other week, which means I can finally get around to finishing my Imperial Space Marine, right after I go to the hobby store to pick up some super glue. Apparently I don't have any, and since I rarely use the stuff (I rarely use non-plastic bits in my models. That's gonna change, drastically, sometime this year, but for now that's how it is) I didn't actually have any. Anyways, I promise you guys, this is absolutely the last time you'll see the model without paint. The last time. I promise! I just wanted to do some public expression of gratitude to Jimbo's generosity, and this was the best way I knew how. http://i.imgur.com/RRPRw0B.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Cxf6zvM.jpg I also got some of the first few layers of paint down on Captain Lynden Huss, the dude I built last week. Not much so far, but progress! http://i.imgur.com/AeQIr8C.jpg Not a huge update tonight by any means, but something, at least. I'm really just trying to get through some of my backlog of minis for this army before ETL hits, so I can dedicate more time for my (planned) Daemonkin force, the Kharshy'shi. Soldier of Dorn
Classes have been a bit overwhelming the past week or so, but I took a couple of hours to paint last night and finished off Lynden Huss. Also decided to switch the eye color on my infantry to blue because it looks better. No fluff or anything because I'm tired, I've been doing nothing but writing and researching essays for the past week or so, and what little ability I possess to write fanfiction right now has been focused on my OTP. Yeah... Anyways, pictures! http://i.imgur.com/PCphsqP.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/UfL7bMi.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/sUm6jyu.jpg With the most goddamn awful Templar cross I've ever freehanded, too. :D In any event, next up we have the Vigilator, Tancred Kijika (thanks to jimbo for the name!) and I've also got the Dreadnought half finished on my desk. The assembled part of I Grenadier is all at the very least basecoated, but I have to do some minor repair work on them, and I've also been planning out a few purchases to assemble II Grenadier and other various infantry squads.
