spex
“There is only one good, knowledge, and one evil, ignorance.” -Philosopher Socrates, Terra, Mediterrenia pre M.1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpQDCG_apWY ++ 923 M30. - Pallas, Styrax system, Halo Stars Pallas, a planet empty of inhabitants in the lifeless Styrax system. Both poles of the planet consist of outstretched kneedeep oceans which merge to vast swamplands. The middle third of the planet around the equator is a red desert of terracotta colored stones and clay earth. Apart from brown and yellow hassocks and moss and little amphibians and reptiles there is no noticable fauna or flora on Pallas. Pallas would be a planet of no intrest, rightly forgotten if it wasn't for one thing: In ancient times, Pallas was home to unknown inhabitants. There is not much left of this culture which is visible on the surface apart from four strongholds, built on both poles and on two opposite points on the equator. And even those don't deserve the name "stronghold"; Vast but shallow trenchsystems criss crossed by humble ruinous walls. But the thing that makes Pallas noticeable lies below these ancient ruines. Libraries which stretch near endless in the pitch black depths of the planet host billions of books, scrolls and ancient machinery. A complcated system of bookshelves and stairs in caverns many hundred meteres deep. After the planet was discovered by the 289 Expeditionary Fleet which consisted mainly of elements of the VII and X legion, a small delegation of techpriests and scholars was left behind with the impossible task of uncovering the secrets held in those libraries. This was in 923 M30. Before the Syrax system was forgotten by most of the Imperium. ++ 010 M31. - Pallas, Styrax system, Halo Stars In 010. M31, the lifeless and forgotten Styrax System was hideout of two ships; The Knight of the Grail, an VII legion Battlecruiser which stranded near the system after jumping from the Phall engagement and the Samotraki, a World Eaters scout cruiser which traveled the most outher rim of the galaxy for the past three and a half decades before following the call to the Istvaan System. When they arrived at Istvaan V in 008. M31 were confronted with the treachery of their legion they revoked their oaths of loyalty to the XII legion. They striked at multiple IV Legion prison camps and freed a hand full of survivors of the X, XVIII and XIX. They fled to the Styrax System and met the Knight of the Grail. Together the two ships ambushed traitor scout vessels around the system. But in 010 M31. a host of 9 ships of the XIV and XVI Legion arrived at the system and their objective was clear; the knowledge contained in the libraries of Pallas. Not able to confront the strike force in an ship to ship engagement the Samotraki and the Knight deployed all of their Legionary contingent on Pallas and retreated from the system to avoid destruction. The loyalists entrenched in the ancient strongholds and waited for their foe to arrive. 523 Loyalists against a host of 7500 members of the Sons of Horus and Death Guard. The battle for Pallas had began. In the attempt to stop me from spaming my own Sons of Horus Thread with offtopic legionarys I thought of a way to feature them otherwise. At first I thought of general "Horus Heresy models" thread but I decided to pack it all up in one lore project. spex
Meros Valerian set his first foot in the redbrown waters of Pallas oceans. His legionarys had allready secured the landing zone. A warm breeze swept over the water and made his hood flap. First Captain Typhon said there will be barely any resistance keeping them from claiming their prize. The two saboteur vessels their scanners found when they jumped into the system fled before they could engage them. But something was telling him, that complications would be arising soon. A feeling he couldn't shake off and a feeling shared by his brothers even without having his psychic gift... http://i.imgur.com/3j25Cjb.jpg http://i.imgur.com/2mL5s5T.jpg http://i.imgur.com/sFqxZbo.jpg Meros Valerian is an subordinate officer of Calas Typhon. He hid his psychic abilities from his Primarch but his restraint was all but washed away since Istvaan V. Morngrym
Very exciting spex! I'm glad you broke this out into a new thread - keeps things well organized that way. The story looks to be an intriguing one. As for the model, the weathering looks great and I like the use of the hood - it definitely adds a nice touch. I've never painted any Death Guard, but the the combination of the white and green colors is very appealing and I might tackle that some day. spex
Appreciate the kind words! I'm happy that you guys like the idea and the librarian! Astounding. He's based on Polux right? yap! I :cussing love the Alexis Polux model, especially the body. This was the third time I used it and I think it will still not be the last time... After all, I bought it the first time with the intention to build and paint it in the manner it was meant to be painted... but conversions happened and so I still got no "real" Polux in my showcase. The only downside of the original is the "shield"; Not that it doesn't look good or anything but it just hides away so much of the great model. spex
Veteran-Brother Albrecht, 28th company, VII Legion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9ElWJyFXHo A granade detonated dulled by the mud in a deep thunderous sound a few meteres next to him and sprayed his armor with brown water. It ran down the golden plate like tears. A quater of a second later he had readjusted his aim and snapt a single shot which found a red eyelense and made a bonecolored helmet explode in a cloud of red mist. Another boltshell sprung from his bolter and a second Death Guard fell to his knees clawing at his broken gorget in an fruitless attempt to stop the fountain of blood spraying from his throat. He took four leaping steps to get to the edge of the trench from which the two legionarys had just emerged and released a torrent of bolts into it. Five human auxiliar troops and two further Death Guard Legionarys got all but blasted apart by a whole boxed magazine load of mass reactive projectiles. Suddenly he noticed a movement in the corner of his left eye and doged a swing of an energy axe by less than the width of a thumb. He turned around and faced a huge warrior in a dirty, chipped and modified MK3 armor. The Death Guard axeman swang his weapon again and Albrecht closed in, droped his bolter and caught the axe at the hilt. Stopped in his momentum his opponent rammed his helmeted head in Albrechts face. He was thrown away from the pale armored enemy but managed to rip the axe from the Death Guards hands. It was flung away in a wide arch. He crashed into the swampy ground and the traitor legionary jumped on him landing a gauntleted punch in his face. Albrecht was able to get a foot up and kicked his enemy away. He turned around, his head pounding, his vision blurring his consciousness fading and crawled through the mud searching for a weapon with his hands. His hands finding something. The huge Death Guard legionary packing his feet and draging him through the filth. A hand grabbing his pauldron and turning him around. The Death Guard Legionary kneeling on his chest, throwing his head back to gain force for his next and final headbutt. The head came down. Albrecht tearing a broken lasrifle from the mud and stemmed it between the ground next to his head and bajonett first towards the downcoming head of the Death Guard legionary. The XIV legion warrior cracked his own eyelense on the bajonett and drove it into his head. A few brief seconds his body fought the inevitable but then it went limp. Albrecht rolled the enemy from him and stood up. Picked up his bolter and loaded it with a new boxmagazin. "I should really get that helmet replaced" he said to himself. Albrecht is a Terran born veteran who served, like all legionarys on the "Knight of the grail" in the 28th company under the comand of Castellan Yvain Peredur. http://i.imgur.com/bnSMteNh.jpg http://i.imgur.com/nVGCVnYh.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320542-among-the-red-stones-of-pallas/#findComment-4348717 Share on other sites

Soldier of Dorn
Lovely yellow, mate! Will you be painting an actual Polux model now? :P I am also perpetually entranced by the way you paint flesh and hair, though I have to confess that your eyes (though technically beautiful) always strike me as a bit off.
