Got some decals printed using an Inkjet printer and Testors brand paper.  After letting the sheet dry overnight, I noticed the black ink runs a little after spraying the sealer.  I didn't think I sprayed too much, yet does this happen to others?

Is it really as simple as "don't spray too much"? :P

Hmmmm... Yeah, it sounds like you laid on too thick. For laser decals, I actually don't even need a top coat to seal, but I hear results may vary depending on the paper and printer, so I don't know if I'd risk that. For inkjet ones, also using Testors paper, I did initially see some bleeding when I first started making my own. After a while, I had better results using Testors Dullcote (I also tried a Krylon one but I prefer the Dullcote) sprayed VERY lightly for the first coat. Like, literally a dusting by passing my arm quickly past the surface. After that dried, I went in with a second layer that was a little more 'traditional,' still thin but shooting for even coverage. The idea is just to get the ink to adhere to the paper a bit better with the first pass, and the second thin coat actually forms the carrier film over the top of the decal.

I hope this helps. It's a bit spendy to experiment with that stuff. One thing to try is to cut a printed sheet into 2 or 3 sections and try out different methods until you find one that works for you. That way if you get a bad batch, you're ruining less. Just make sure you document it well so you know which one you like best, and then you can reproduce the results. Good luck! Making custom decals opens up all kinds of opportunities. Just don't try to print white... ;)
