My advice on the HQs is not to wait too long! I still have an unpainted Commander Dante, the very first model I ever bought, because I never thought my painting was good enough. You can always repaint them later, and the fancy models can actually be a LOT of fun.

Yeah, I def need to adjust where that drop is. I couldn't get it quite right so I just said screw it and placed it there for now.

I like where you are going with it. Yours def looks a bit better than my original, but I think it's a little too small now. I'll mess around with it though.

Thanks for the input!

I bought Dante, corbulo, and Lemartes all back when the 5th Ed codex dropped, still have them all sitting on my desk unpainted.... I really tried to play 40k then but the painting stopped me. I didn't have the patience then and got frustrated when I didn't like how my guys turned out.

I think I'm gonna take your advice though and just paint them. Like you said, I can always repaint then later.

Testing out my scheme with this guy. They are going to be the personal body guards of my version of Capt Karl, that's why they are gold. My normal ones will not be gold. Still need to do the red in between the armor and touch up stuff, but i'm liking what i have so far. Not sure if i should use a wash on the gold or not. I don't think i should use Nuln Oil, but maybe Argrax?

Edited by Brother Lemartes

Definitely wash the gold!

If you want a darker, more earthy gold use Agrax Earthshade, or if you want it a little more resplendent use Rekland Fleshshade or a middle ground would be Seraphm Sepia!

Because of the Sigmarine release Gold has never been easier :D

When I wash gold I use Sepia or one of Ogryn Flesh (though that's the old version?).

Honestly though, there is a GREAT tutorial on how to paint gold on the GW youtube channel. It's a stormcast eternal tutorial, but it still works here.

I love the way the terminator looks!

Thanks for the help guys! I will probably go will Agrax since I want a darker look and don't have sepia yet. Hoping to have him finished tonight, so will post more pics after the washing.

Can't decide if I should do the hands red or black, which is a decision I need make for my whole army actually...

Also not sure what to do with the hammer. Never done a PW before so will probably avoid the glowing style look until I have more practice. Probably should just paint it black/silver for now.

And last thing, anyone have experience using SG wings as shields? Which way would you have them face?

added some wash and touched some things up, those eyes are giving me trouble. Decided to go with red hands after starting to paint one black. Every time i take a picture i notice something else i need to fix...

That gold Cataphract os awesome, I don't remember seeing one before. I might have to steal the idea.

Personally, I'd go back and rehighlight the gold - the wash has taken some of the shine off it. It still looks great, but I go for maximum shine.

Also, nice blog in general, 5 pages after a month and a bit, you're getting a lot of interest and discussion, keep going!

Thank you!

I actually got the idea from someone on here that painted the limited edition forgeword space marine centurion gold. I think it was Arkangilos...

I was a little worried I might be posting too much after I noticed how my thread is at 5 pages already... But thank you for the encouragement!

I'm hoping to have them all done by Friday so I can get another vow in. Trying to decide which way to use the SG wing as a shield. It looks like you could argue for it to be positioned facing either way. Might be hard to get it done with total warhammer coming out...

It was mostly a speed thing (needed three colours for an Apoc game and did them the night before) but they turned out great.

For my new super Deathwing knight terminators thougg I'm keeping my normal chapter colours. Which will seem a little off but hey ho, they got a lot of cool details to stand out.

I also did it because my SG are white. They came painted that way and contrasted really well with my normal scheme, plus I'm an Angels Encarmine successor so why not.

My SG will also be white! So I needed to paint something gold...

Total warhammer has been taking up all my free time lately, but I will finish my vow!!!

In other news, I just signed up for an apoc game of 6v6 with I think 2k each player. This will be around my 5th game in 7th, but I am very excited!

I plan on running the razor wind strike force since I just picked up a predator and only need the Baal to have the whole formation. I think it should be fun. Will post list ideas later, but hopefully after this vow I will be vowing more to have the strike force mostly painted by the game in July!

Pretty much finished with this guy. Still some little spots to touch up, but i'm thinking he's looking pretty good.  Will hopefully be finishing the rest soon, but Total Warhammer is just soo good...

Edit: Man every time i post a pic of something i'm feeling good about, i notice all these things i messed up. Maybe need to do a bit more work on him....

Sounds like a job for the ETL!

Also, when in doubt use the 1 meter/3foot rule. If it looks great from a meter away, don't worry about it. I can't tell you how many times I miss damned mold lines after I've already started painting/priming, USUALLY between the legs, or on the inside of an arm! :furious: But then I just use the aforementioned method, or I do a quick shave and paint over it, and blokes are non the wiser. Unless its one of the anal retentive lot that picks up your toys and points out every thing you did wrong.. :dry.:

Thanks guys! I really like the 1 meter rule haha. Gonna have to use that from now on.

I'm working on getting the razor wind strike force ready for a game in July, so corbulo, Dante, and Lemartes will have to wait... But I need a Gabriel Seth, Blood Revenants version, for the formation, so expect to see a kit bash soon. I may need to use some parts from the Libby I posted a bit back, but I don't plan on running any libbies soon so shouldn't be a problem!

Can't decide on the legs for my Seth, so will be posting a couple different options when I can to get some feedback

When I get home tonight I'll finish those guys up, but for now I'm thinking of what to do for vow 2.

I will be running strike force razor wind for an apoc game coming up so I'll list what I still need painted for that in no specific order:

Kitbashed Garbriel Seth (looking forward to showing off my ideas soon, need help deciding body/legs)

Baal pred

Predator

Drop pod x2

Furioso frag cannon

Tac squad x2 (one will be melta geared, can't decide on the 2nd, will talk strategy later)

Rhino

Storm raven

Vanguard vets x5

Probably just gonna go for the tac squads for my second vow... Don't want to go too big... Or would it be better to vow big a few times or small all five times? I'm just worried I won't finish a big vow....

I'm really excited to see that Seth, as I too am looking for some keen ideas on how to kit bash one! I love the seth model, but not all the flesh tearer bits, as I don't play them.

I think the vow should be something you're comfortable with. Maybe try for 330ish+ points. The Raven, the 2 pods, and the Fragrioso doesn't sound too terrible, and you have 2 months to complete that.
