Angels of Caliban (Spoilers)

With all these loyalist centred novels that the Night Lords appear in it really makes me wish they would finally get their own actual novel (preferably by ADB) which solely is about them and their actions in the Hereay and not just the incompetent super villains they seem to be portrayed as in a few novels.

Makes me wish Nightfall wasn't face down in a pool of it's own blood.

An entire 40k trilogy and supporting short stories penned by--arguably--Black Library's best current author? I think the Night Lords are doing just fine. Spread the ADB love I say.

I'd also argue the NL come across as one of the better traitor legions in the Heresy, but that's just opinion.

Thorpe giving the DA fans some love

I would trade every moment of 'love' we've ever gotten from Thorpe in a heartbeat to be able to undo all the novels he's written on DA and let someone else have a crack.

I can't really judge without having read Angels of Caliban, but at this stage I'd say the Lion going savage and breaking Curze's back sounds awful. ADB went out of his way in Savage Weapons to show the Lion as the more skilled fighter and Curze as the better, more brutal brawler (didn't you point this out earlier in the thread b1soul?). ADB said this was his intention and this is consistent with every depiction we've ever had of the Lion (e.g. Lion vs. Russ).

As ever with Thorpe, any 'love' he gives is a poisoned chalice. See the abomination that is the deus ex machina device 'Tuchulcha' as well as a veritable cavalcade of bollocks that's been well documented elsewhere.

I don't know how AD-B feels about this, I assume it's similar since in Savage Weapons the Lion tells Curze how close he thought they were due to their upbringings, but I think the Lion is just as savage as Curze but his upbringing in the order and iron discipline, helps him mask it. I think the Lion was a Great Beast of Caliban before Luther found him TBH

I think the Lion should be like Drizzt ... not necessarily a savage hiding behind a knightly facade

But a knight with a repressed inner savage

Think of this.
While Lion may observe certain traditions and honours in a fight, it still does not prevent him from throwing few sucker punches or chopping a head off.

Even Sanguinius can control his rage far better than Lion.

Everything till now point Lion as a beast trapped in a body.

Contrary, he is not that as dogmatic or black & white minded as you would have believed.

That's what happen when Watchers in the Dark raise him

How the heck do you lot know so much about the story when it's only being released on Saturday?

I guess you just skimmed the first post?

My sister went to the London comic com yesterday, I asked her to swing by the forge world stand for me to see if they had anything on pre-release. Lo and behold, they had Angels of Caliban for sale

Luther raised The Lion as a son. He prevented the Knights of Caliban from killing him outright. In return he got banished to Caliban and assigned a training mission. While there, he found a Terran Chaos conspiracy as well as several abuses (by Terrans) of Imperial power. Maybe he had cause to suspect The Emperor an The Lion both and take steps to defend Caliban?

Yeah. Banished for no reason. Other than showing that he held his loyalty cheap by almost allowing a nuclear bomb to destroy his supposed beloved "son". By having to much pride to inform the the Lion that he failed at keeping the planet under control.

Imagine if a security member of a presidential (who is next in line in this scenario) detail was like "hmmmmm...it could be min....all mine" i think forced retirement would be too lenient regardless of whether he changed his mind at the the eleventh hour. Plus I think he only changed cause he got caught by Zhariel.

Luther IS a traitor.

A traitor with his own reasons, which you could or could not agree with.

But a traitor nevertheless, plotting at the back of his friend and Primarch, bearing resentment and consciously swaying people to his own ends.

There is little do debate, IMHO.

Ps: "theoretically shut up or I'll practically punch you in the face" man I love the Lion
