the ritual is performed and 5 semi-evil red guys transformed to 5 semi-evil grey guys. inbetween basecoating and washing the various part-assembled elements I kitbashed this guy, who hopefully will be a psyker sergeant one day - depending on the rules the thousand sons get later this year. all i need now is a staff for the right arm, a decision on a weapon on the left and some patience...

Word Bearers back on the table. Or back the the painting table first and foremost. I hope to finish the second veteran squad soon. Third is prepared and ready for undercoat. I hate rain...

 

This demi-squad was partly finished in summer. Some touch ups needed, but the issues do not really show on this photograph. Sorry for the bad lighting. Winter is coming.

They are probably the best grey Word Bearers I've seen, though I still think a dash of colour to the lenses could work.

Incidentally, I've started doing coloured Lenses on my own Scars with Mk. II upgrade helmets, and I thing it works tremendously well.

While the next demi-squad is on the painting table I finally build the BaC Chaplain. Probably will need to find a different helmet or green stuff a skull on top of the face mask. The crozius is a the original with a new middle part, hand is a bit too small, but i think it does not look too bad. But it might be too long now?

Also I ordered a Volkite Sepenta... together with the Plasma Pistol and the left arm from the BaC Chaplain it is a nice base for a Moritat, hu? This is the start for a small EC force, which I built up in parallel to the WB (which just take way longer because they are so little fun in the low point spectrum).

found the crozius to be to long, rather a staff. So some cutting and here you go Word Bearers Chaplain no.1

i realized something was off, but now that you say so: too long! I already ripped it off the miniature to compare it to other forearms. The proportions are totally wrong on regular pieces! So I guess i just cut down the forearm more till it looks right.

 

The shooter crozius is good though? Or still too long?

Emperor damn it, I'm so conflicted! I hate the Word Bearers but I love that Chaplain! That pose is fantastically evocative, like he's preaching to his brothers and has just reached the epic, blood-stirring climax of his sermon just moments before they all charge into the fray!

That is the other half of the second veteran squad. I leave decals and some details to be cleared up until later, when three squads and some extra heavy / specialist weapons are finished. They turned up a bit too dark (and black), because I used black color at some stage instead black wash mixture... oh well, i can split them into the three squads so that is ok really.
