The Nightmare Children: An VIIIth Legion Log

Hello, Brothers.

 

First things first, can I just say how much of an inspiration everyone on this website has been the few months I've been saving up for Betrayal at Calth and collecting a suitably large enough pile of Night Lord related bitz. Every paintjob and conversion on here is fantastic.

Also this in my first time posting here, forgive any mistakes I may make.

 

Secondly, This is my Night Lords XXIVth Company, 'The Nightmare Children.'

They are assembled, converted, and ready to be painted as soon as I find the time.

All these miniatures are from the Betrayal at Calth box set, just heavily kit-bashed and converted.

Lets get started, shall we?

Brother-Sergeant Balthasar Kraas, in command of the veterans of First Claw.

A native Nostraman, many other members of the XXIVth company resent his ranking in the upper command

echelons of the legion, saying that such an arrogant, haughty and reckless soldier would fit in better amongst

the sons of Fulgrim. He does however remain loyal to the command of his captain and terrormaster. For now.

First Claw, XXIVth Company, 'The Long Knives.'

 

Note the ceremonial daggers they all carry mag-locked to their armour, a unique nostraman dagger presented

to each battle-brother as he reaches the rank of First Claw veteran.

Flaymaster Mawdrym Llansahai

I was originally going to replace this forge-world apothecary's helmet with a Night Raptors, but i think keeping

it as the one piece works well enough. So I settled on a simple weapons swap, but oh how the blood-for-the-blood-god paint

will flow when i get around to painting him.

I decided the split the 3rd squad of tactical marines you receive in Calth into a 5 man terror squad and 5 man night raptor squad.

Emperor knows I'd get bored of painting the rank and file marines after 20 of them.

Where did the dagger come from, if you don't mind me asking?

The daggers actually come from the Dark Eldar Hellions kit, they come with a variety of meat hooks and sliced off hands/feet too. Perfect for the sons of Curze.

Third Claw, XXIVth Company ++ 'The Gutter Snipes' ++

Brother-Sargeant Krivaeus was always a jealous man.
He rose from a lowly gutter orphan to a fully fledged syndicate lord in the black streets of Nostramo by killing. And killing. and killing.
Now he commands the 3rd claw of The Nightmare Children. No points for wondering how he achieved the rank.

The Nightmare Children's Terror Squad,++'The Black Talons of Curze.'++

Yes they have Volkite calivers. Yes they look better than the chargers.
Once again, having an extensive bitz collection worked in my favour for these guys. Kroot and Dark Eldar specifically.

1st company Atramentar squad ++ 'The Eyes of Sevetar'++

While not officially part of the XXIVth company, this squad of Atramentar terminators has been personally sent by the 1st captain himself. Led by an ancient terran Night Lord Praetor, their mission is to keep a watchful eye on Lord Ichabod and the rumours surrounding him of his possible rogue status. However the Terror Master's arrogance makes him see them as a gift from the first captain, a personal bodyguard of sorts for his glorious campaign of horror.

(Also, is the bat wing pauldron decoration dumb? I think its works but that may just be my inner 7 year old.)

and finally, the contemptor. Ive got nothing solid for his name/backstory yet, but it'll come. This one was heavily inspired by what you guys have posted for your dread conversions. It just makes it look so much more dynamic than the basic 'model-on-a-red-carpet' pose them had him in. Also my first proper green stuff job!

Thanks again for looking guys, Ill update again when I have a few coats on paint on them, or I could post the few chaos Night Lords if anyone is interested. I intend on painting them using the technique that the ridiculously talented Loddfafnir113 used on their Night Lords, that gorgeous metallic scheme made me fall in love with these black-hearted murderers all over again.
