So, I'm trying to get back into 40k after an 8 year break.

I would like comments and or criticism. It has been a while since I built an army list.

So here is my 2k list for my beloved witch hunters!

Before we get started, here's why I build this as I did.

- I have always built a puritan witch hunters list

- My friend wants to play this "new game" he found and wants to play orks. I told him I played a while ago but never told him the army...

HQ (100):

Uriah Jacobus

Troops (825):

Battle Sister Squad (x5)

1 Vet with storm bolter

1 Heavy flamer

1 flamer

2 Standard sisters

1 immolator with laud hailer & storm bolter

Fast attack (203):

Dominion Squad

4 melta guns

1 Vet

1 bolter sister

1 immolator with laud hail er & storm bolter

Heavy Support (390):

Exorcist with storm bolter x3

Inquisition Detachment:

HQ (43):

Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor

-with power armor, bolt pistol and Power sword

Elite (434):

Inquisitorial Henchmen Warband

2 Arco flagellant

2 Crusaders

2 Death Cult Assassins

2 priests with bolt pistol and Power sword

Land raider with storm bolter

Total points: 1993

Welcome to the B&C! Ave Imperator! (I like the profile picture)

I've only been playing 40K for 3 years, and SoB for 1 year, but I'll try to be of help.

Oh, I've always (for the last year, although I have dabbled in third edition) been a pure Sisters player, so I've never fielded an Inquisitor, so I'm afraid I can only help with the Sisters part of your army:

Well, I wonder if Storm Bolters are really worth the points on the infantry (and even on the vehicles) in this edition. Rapid fire weapons (if you are unaware) now fire 1 shot at full range, or 2 at half, regardless of whether you moved, and they always preclude you from charging.

If you think he's going to have lots of mech, you could consider a second Dominion Squad (who I assume will be coming in from reserves using the Outflank rule that comes with the Scout rule). Again, I'm not sure it's worth the points to have 6 Sisters in your Dominion squad. It's kinda a suicide mission for them, and 1 extra body won't (usually) make a ton of difference.

Consider whether you need laud hailers for all of your BSSs. You could use the points to put a 6th model in some of them.

These are just my thoughts, and I don't have a ton of experience. You can check out the Unit of the Week threads for some discussion of each unit in the codex. The most recent one has links to all the previous ones.

Thoughts for the vehicle storm bolters:

Exorcist and immolator (if I recall correctly) has 1 weapon, one weapon destroyed roll ruins your day! Having a storm bolter makes it a x point insurance policy for a 50/50 chance vs 100% chance for a bad day.

From my understanding he (my friend) is going to be running mostly Boyz with a few cans and or dreads.

Edit to add more content:

Storm bolter on my vets is mostly for my opinion on squad composition. Normally you either run a ccw/insert pistol or a combi bolter of what ever flavor you decide meshes with the squads purpose. Everyone has "useless" storm bolters laying around which is 2 shots all day adding to the daka output.

I

This is true.

For me, a five on the vehicle damage table is infrequent enough that I just run an extra Sister, but it does happen, so it's not a bad idea (especially for the Exoercists).

Hum. With that much infantry, do you really need 3 Exorcists AND Meltagun Dominions?

I'm jealous. I like to run a command squad with 5 heavy flamers in an immolator with a TL-HF turret. This sounds like the perfect time for that.

By the way, where will Jacobus be going? Remember he increases his unit's Shield of Faith 6++ to a 5++ (as long as he is your Warlord), and gives them a free second use of their AoF without needing to roll to activate it.

Edit: also he has War Hymns at Ld 9

3 exorcist, the melta squad and a land raider forces the enemy to choose where to lay down their dedicated AT squads. The more "oh crap" units you have, the more likely your troops can squeeze past and purge the heresy from the board :)

I personally like to keep it around a 1:1 ratio for anti tank vs anti people. Keeps everything semi balanced and makes it harder to justify I will focus on THIS vs that.

Jacobus will most likely be rolling with my meltas, for the double AoF and improved invulnerable save. I'll have them slipping in from the side via scout. It is a suicide squad no doubt but it also can draw fire away from my troops which in turn makes my job easier.

The inquisitor will also be rolling around in his land raider.

I still believe in the good ol' saying that a walking sister is a dead sister. So everyone gets a ride which later can be used to snag objectives or contest an enemy held one.

So if you can imagine the deployment area. The exorcists will be in the corners and one in the middle with the land raider. The troops will be evenly spaced toeing the very edge.

This covers a good chunk of the battle field with weapon saturation and makes it that much harder for the enemy to get their guns in range to take out just about anything without a volley of return fire.

I think that about covers everything.

I'll re-run the numbers when I get back from shopping tonight.

Also, your sisters look great! I dare not show mine... I was 18-19 when I started painting them...

It is self evident that I was very deeply involved with the rave scene... pink and Scorpion green hair, black armor and ultramarine blue robes and cloth....

Ike! That's a little . . . interesting for Sisters.

Thanks for the complement!

Edit: Dark blue robes sound like they look cool on black armour.

I do like the blue robes. Can't really see the hair in this picture.

Oh, and about the Orks, they are super weak right now. Down there with Chaos Space Marines. We aren't super great either, but I think our codex is pretty solid.

Did you play any second edition? I didn't (obviously), but I recently did an adaptation of the second edition rules for Helena the Virtuous, Prioress of the Convent Sanctorum for seventh edition. Here's the thread. I'd appreciate any thoughts you may have, especially if you did play during 2E.

You may want to diversify the inquisitors retinue a little (models permitting) - meltabombs, and for the cost of a priests powerweapon you could take a whole extra cultist or crusader.

The inquisitor also has access to two notable tactical abilites. Firstly the liber heresius allows his squad and landraider to scout (and gain hatred if the priests bite it) and secondly servo skulls, while not of huge value against orks, can wall off part of the board against an opponents scouting units.

If you have the models you can't go wrong with swapping a battle sister squad for another dominion squad. I'd also suggest having at least one melta-sister squad just so you start with at least one set of melta guns on the board to deal with armour while the dominions are in reserves (assuming you don't scout them out first turn).
