Burn them all - 30k / Heresy Legion XVIII Salamanders

In preparation for starting work on the Prospero box and a Forgeworld order of new goodies, I was transferring my 30k (and 40k) Salamanders to new storage boxes and thought I'd take the opportunity to take some quick photos and share.

Up first, Vulkan Primarch of the Salamanders:

Next, some of the big models in the army - Dreadnoughts. The old metal dreadnoughts were some of the first models that attracted me into collecting marines, so great to now have an army with ability to take so many:

Next up, the core of the army - the troops choices. I like how the Legion lists plays with the once more familiar 40k Codex choices, and lets us put together different types of units.

First: a full strength Legion Tactical Squad. Assembled from the Calth boxset + Forgeworld upgrades. I've got another 20 man squad planned from the Prospero box.

Next: two Tactical Support Squads. Appropriately, one is armed with flamers and the other (of course!) with melta guns. In time, I'd love to add some of the more obscure 30k options like Rotor Cannons and Volkites

Finally: two squads that move away from the classic choices of bolters, flamers, and melta guns. A Legion Recon Squad combining Forgeworld and Anvil Industry models. I love the idea of marines with sniper rifles and camo cloaks. Also, a Legion Breacher Squad. Again, like the idea of marines with specialist equipment and I think this squad has a tough, aggressive look, ready to take on whatever the Galaxy throws at them...

I like the idea of Heresy armies being larger than in 40k, and needing more in terms of support.  So I wanted to include a full Techmarine Covenant and Apothecarion Detachment.  The techmarines are the old metal models - about £10 altogether for the three from eBay over six months.  I love how much character and detail they have.

And for HQs, I've used the Betrayal at Calth boxset. No real changes to the Terminator, but changed the Word Bearers Chaplain by giving him a Power Sword and Melta Pistol. I think of him as a Legion Champion, but he could be a number of Consuls like a Delegatus. The other consul is a Master of Signal a quick and simple conversion of an old Rogue Trader torso, a pair of bionic legs, and a Cadian Voxcaster backpack.
