Xanthier
Thanks guys. I've not tried the vallejo gun metal, though I do have some other colours they make. It may be worth a try later on though, yeah. Long day yesterday, but I managed to get 3 more basic marines done. http://i.imgur.com/h7er1on.jpg Not sure how much time I'll get to put towards painting later today since it's so late it's early right now, but I do have a Praevian in the works, though I don't actually have any robot buddies for him. Vairocanum
That captain looks really good! Definitely a step up from the original kurtha. Looking forward to seeing more! Xanthier
Cheers for the motivation guys! Also, Season's Greetings or appropriate phrase to everyone! Ober the last several days I've 'voluntarily' had to work 12 hour shifts so haven't really done much painting each day, generally preferring to sleep instead. Even so, I managed to finish up another pair of marines and the Praetor as much as I can - I dropped the poor guy whilst painting the paragon blade and it pinged off somewhere! You'd think a blue blade would be easier to see on cream carpet or dark brown flooring, but ah well... http://i.imgur.com/CeCTe2A.jpg http://i.imgur.com/huWAMUH.jpg I should have time tomorrow on Boxing Day since I wrangled that off thankfully, so I'll see if I can get either more infantry or something slightly bigger done. Canadian_F_H
Nice! You making me anxious to get started in my IW project! Xanthier
Cheers Canadian_F_H, it'll be good to see them when you do! Spent a chunk of today sniffling and sneezing, but also got some painting done on the side. Finished up the last 3 Saturnine Terminators I have, as well as a trio of sarges - http://i.imgur.com/lcfKu8R.jpg Really like the pose of the sarge on the left, he clearly means business. http://i.imgur.com/jXXFJTM.jpg The last sarge follows the Doghouse method with a Tartatos front, it does work much nicer than a Cataphractii front for me. http://i.imgur.com/FdQxGWw.jpg Here he is with the other bigger astartes I've made - http://i.imgur.com/FpcLncJ.jpg I have another art-scale waiting to be primed, this time with a plasma. I figure I'll slowly make more as and when I get the parts and eventually use 10 of them as a veteran squad. It's very tempting to try and get hold of one of the rogue-trader era Rhinos so they have a clown car to travel in! It's back to work as normal from tomorrow and New Years is just another work day, so it'll likely be back to the odd model every couple of days or so, but with luck I'll be able to make steady progress. Especially as after reorganizing my marines it turns out I actually have at least 40, so my tactical squads are likely to get bigger... Spikedhalo
Fantastic work! I love the look of the weathered armor - so realistic! Xanthier
That Sgt is outstanding, the sense of movement is superb. The other guys are great as well Huge thanks! I was really pleased with how the pose turned out, especially as I'm more the type to glue first and regret later, heh. I'm really liking the weathering on these guys, looks very appropriate to the scale. Thanks. I still need to work more on improving it though since it's currently somewhat uncontrolled with the irregular sponges I'm using. Love 'm. Well done! Cheers! Fantastic work! I love the look of the weathered armor - so realistic! Please, share a secret of painting such armor... what tool you use for such micro-spots and scratches? Thanks! It's not much of a secret as far as I'm aware, since I'm using old blister pack sponge, the grey stuff that came with metal GW models (or from other brands). I'd expect any fine sponge would work. When the edge gets too gummed up with paint I simply tear that chunk off. The main limitation is that it can be hard to reach smaller spots without a shaped piece, though I expect cutting it to shape could work well enough. As long as the paint is slightly thinned, so it doesn't just dry on the sponge, you should be good to go. If in doubt, do a test-dab on some paper. I didn't get much done today, but in keeping with my general targets I did at least get another marine done! http://i.imgur.com/y35IDTZ.jpg He's the last of my current art scale marines, if only because I'm now out of spare legs. I have more torsos on order and shoulder pads/arms aren't an issue, but the legs are slightly frown-inducing. Ah well, as I scrounge more I'll add to the unit. Also, a fun shot to show the scale next to a normal marine - http://i.imgur.com/MN6ERVM.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328717-iron-within-iron-without-iron-shake-it-all-about/page/2/#findComment-4605313 Share on other sites
Sgt. Blank
Awesome Iron Warriors. I like how the weather and the hazard striping serve to break up the bare metal. It would be neat to see the repaired paragon blade if it ever turns up. Svartmetall
Looking at the guy on the right there, two things spring to mind; firstly that the V-shaped piece of armour on the lower leg would be a perfect place to have yellow-and-black chevrons, and secondly that the plasma gun could maybe be orange instead of blue? Silver/grey are technically neutral, but they're cold colours; something like orange would be a far more striking spot colour to have on the weapon against the metal background. Khornestar
For as amazing as your minis are, it's the simple white dots in their eye lenses that push them over the top for me. Incredible. That detail just makes them look so menacing. Augustus b'Raass
Amazing, amazing work. Wow. I want a whole army of those! I don't agree with Svartmetall Re: the colour of the plasma, btw. The yellow and black chevrons plus the red eyes give enough contrast to the metal, and another warm colour tone would actually give less contrast next to those glowing eyes and chevrons. Blue is opposite yellow-red on the colour wheel and is the perfect spot colour. Please leave it like it is! (And if you have to change it, choose green for the plasma colour) EDIT: spelling Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328717-iron-within-iron-without-iron-shake-it-all-about/page/2/#findComment-4606867 Share on other sites

It would be neat to see the repaired paragon blade if it ever turns up. Cheers! I've still not found that blade, it's effectively lost. I'll need to rummage around, but I should be able to find a suitable sword soon enough. Thanks for the suggestions! He already has enough hazard stripes on him I reckon, since I generally want them somewhat subdued. As for the orange, I thought about it before picking blue. I decided to stick to a nice cold colour since it fits my perceptions of the IVth, plus orange would be too similar in tone to the yellow, red and brown shading for the armour. Excellent paintjob, awesome praetor conversion, and freaking gorgeous true-scalers! Thanks, glad you like them. Always great to see them well received! For as amazing as your minis are, it's the simple white dots in their eye lenses that push them over the top for me. Incredible. That detail just makes them look so menacing. I wanted the eyes to stand out a bit more and didn't want red osl on the metal faces, so the white dot was a compromise. I was initially unsure, but it's grown on me. Glad you like it! Amazing, amazing work. Wow. I want a whole army of those! I don't agree with Svartmetall Re: the colour of the plasma, btw. (And if you have to change it, choose green for the plasma colour) EDIT: spelling Yeah, green was the other choice I almost went for before picking blue. I've seen both red and blue on Iron Warriors and thought the blue would complement nicely which is why I went against green in the end. Plus I don't paint blue as much, so it was a nice change! Like the other guys, I love the slowly advancing sergeant and the true scales! That's a lovely shade of metal you have there for your Iron Warriors! Cheers! All hail leadbelcher, ironbreaker and glazes, heh. I've been making some progress and here's another actual WIP of the slightly bigger project I alluded to before - http://i.imgur.com/Jcc7g5E.jpg The bike is practically done, though a few small details are angled away in the photo, like the little lights on the wings. All I really have to finish up is the rider, who is barely started (and holding a grenade at least) and naturally the base. The bike does have some spot colours too - http://i.imgur.com/xIgrRjB.jpg I'm quite tempted to make a little jet flame on a pin to slot into the rear engine just for a bit more pop, but I'll have a better idea of how it all fits together once the rider and base are done. I also at least got primer on my Praevian, even though the poor guy has no robot friends. His combi-flamer arm is separate so I'll be able to reach the chest for hazard stripes and so on. http://i.imgur.com/GPk82yd.jpg I'm probably going to nab a small bit or two off of my rust stalker sprues to give his backpack some sort of antenna. I also have to mention that removing the Iron Hand symbol on the shield was certainly dicey, almost cut off a bunch of the shield detail with a slip, heh. At any rate, I hope all of you have a great New Years if that's your thing and thanks for all the comments and support, it really helps keep me going! It can feel a bit of a drag at times with so much metal and repetetive glazes, but being able to share the wip or finished result really helps, so thank you all! I see some Iron Hands helmets mixed in there . . . Yep, I like the aesthetic of the bionic MK III helms, plus the Medusan Breachers work really well for Iron Warriors. Good to see stunt biking survived well into 30k. Everything is still looking fantastic! You have everything I would want to run for an IW ZM team with all those sweet dreads. Envy is taking root now. Yeah, I know what you mean about ZM. I want to finish up all my dreads relatively soon and see just how many I can fit into a small force! I reckon a talon of Contemptors and pair of Deredeos at least. I managed to finish the rider, though the textture paint is taking an age to dry on the base so no luck there yet but it'll be finished tomorrow at least. http://i.imgur.com/hAl6Vhh.jpg He does have hazard stripes on him! http://i.imgur.com/BCYRUsE.jpg Also, so as to not make this a very short update (with just a single marine effectively...) ages ago my local GW asked everyone who was willing to paint up a Stormcast in their style, converting them if need be to represent what they liked about the hobby. So, naturally, I made mine an Iron Warrior whilst still keeping to the gold-aesthetic that was asked. Behold, a Sigmarine. http://i.imgur.com/HSbA6lV.jpg http://i.imgur.com/USXk0gg.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328717-iron-within-iron-without-iron-shake-it-all-about/page/2/#findComment-4609747 Share on other sites

I made progress. Firstly the fairly boring stuff, finished the jetbike base so that's done now - http://i.imgur.com/oCWmp0i.jpg However, I also painted up a contemptor! http://i.imgur.com/I6KO40P.jpg Really pleased with how the trims came out. http://i.imgur.com/HdcO13X.jpg Sadly I don't have arms painted up for him.
