thamier
okay some very very cool stuff here. my favorite is the scale marine with the 30k terminator base and the cool gorget, really like that and the helm on the other is also super cool, want lots more. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328717-iron-within-iron-without-iron-shake-it-all-about/page/3/#findComment-4611009 Share on other sites
Mirbeau
Cheers Canadian_F_H, it'll be good to see them when you do! Spent a chunk of today sniffling and sneezing, but also got some painting done on the side. Finished up the last 3 Saturnine Terminators I have, as well as a trio of sarges - Really like the pose of the sarge on the left, he clearly means business. http://i.imgur.com/jXXFJTM.jpg The last sarge follows the Doghouse method with a Tartatos front, it does work much nicer than a Cataphractii front for me. http://i.imgur.com/FdQxGWw.jpg Here he is with the other bigger astartes I've made - I have another art-scale waiting to be primed, this time with a plasma. I figure I'll slowly make more as and when I get the parts and eventually use 10 of them as a veteran squad. It's very tempting to try and get hold of one of the rogue-trader era Rhinos so they have a clown car to travel in! It's back to work as normal from tomorrow and New Years is just another work day, so it'll likely be back to the odd model every couple of days or so, but with luck I'll be able to make steady progress. Especially as after reorganizing my marines it turns out I actually have at least 40, so my tactical squads are likely to get bigger... Love the pose on the left-hand sarge, a really cool miniature. Like the way you've pulled off the hazard striping too, have never found freehand easy. Chaplain Raeven
http://i.imgur.com/y35IDTZ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/FdQxGWw.jpg These guys are bloody awesome! How did you model them? Did you just glue tactical back to terminator fronts? Do you adjust the arms? I have so many questions! NebuchandnezzarCD
Those art scale marines are absolutely superb, some of the best I've seen. The different bits of armour work really well together they look like they're from a single kit. Also great paint jobs I'm looking forwards to seeing what you do next Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328717-iron-within-iron-without-iron-shake-it-all-about/page/3/#findComment-4612298 Share on other sites
Xanthier
Your weathering is so awesome and natural, well done Thank you, I'm a fan of it myself. okay some very very cool stuff here. my favorite is the scale marine with the 30k terminator base and the cool gorget, really like that and the helm on the other is also super cool, want lots more. Cheers, I really like how a Mk II helm works with the Tartaros chest plate. Love the pose on the left-hand sarge, a really cool miniature. Like the way you've pulled off the hazard striping too, have never found freehand easy. I'm lucky enough that my brush splays out to a good width for the stripes, so it's mostly trying to stop my hand shaking. These guys are bloody awesome! How did you model them? Did you just glue tactical back to terminator fronts? Do you adjust the arms? I have so many questions! I can't take the credit for the process, Doghouse posted a good tutorial for the torso here - http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/327755-heresy-iron-warriors-wip-40k-imperial-fists-101216/?p=4561903 I don't need to convert anything else, standard arms, pads, head and so on. ooow barracuda, great work. Love the brass etch panel on the leviathans forward plate. Cheers! I mainly wanted to break up the space without carving it up or going full on hazard stripes that big. Fantastic stuff mate, loving the truescale guys especially you've done a great job on the weathering for them as well. Eyyy, Doghouse! I've seen your projects going back years, it's great to have you comment! Glad you like the truescale guys, you'll never guess where I got the process from. Those art scale marines are absolutely superb, some of the best I've seen. The different bits of armour work really well together they look like they're from a single kit. Also great paint jobs I'm looking forwards to seeing what you do next All credit to Doghouse for the method as mentioned. Thanks for the support! Likely Dreadnoughts since I have a lot of them and Marines get a tad samey... Progress has continued to build since I had the day off, so got this little guy finished up - http://i.imgur.com/b5cQtUI.jpg http://i.imgur.com/5o9TznA.jpg I also started work on a surprise entry, a third one! http://i.imgur.com/iaK0u4g.jpg http://i.imgur.com/RfGJzjM.jpg I converted the torso up as well to switch out the head but that's still primed. Also got a Deimos Rhino up to the based leadbelcher step though giving that a wash may be messy. Hmm. At some point I need to get back to painting basic marines since I have over 20 assembled and ready to go but they're not super exciting compared to Dreadnoughts and tanks... PS I have a bunch of marines i have waiting for paint, but love painting vehicles and dreads, too! Thanks, it's appreciated! Managed to spend much of today waiting for glazes to dry whilst it's cold. Fanatastic. However I did paint the third Leviathan and finish up the third Contemptor body - http://i.imgur.com/aHpCgVY.jpg http://i.imgur.com/wd2ZDVS.jpg http://i.imgur.com/fQkbL3S.jpg I have several more Leviathan arms in various stages of priming but I still need to build and magnetize all the various Contemptor arms to fully finish off the Talon. At any rate since I now have a whole bunch of them done, here's a 'dreadfull' shot that doesn't fit in the small lightbox - http://i.imgur.com/RFc3Hr2.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328717-iron-within-iron-without-iron-shake-it-all-about/page/3/#findComment-4613112 Share on other sites
Herald of Ultramar
Hm. I'd always felt the IW Contemptor sculpt was too busy with all the chevrons, pipes and trim, but you've really made it work by keeping most of them subdued black and brass and using the yellow sparingly. The headswap works really well, too. Great job. Bjorn Firewalker
The Leviathan with the pipes on the left side of his breastplate, looks interesting. Do they represent crude repairs or modifications? Symptoms of mutation and Chaos-taint, e.g., the Obliterator virus? Xanthier
Hm. I'd always felt the IW Contemptor sculpt was too busy with all the chevrons, pipes and trim, but you've really made it work by keeping most of them subdued black and brass and using the yellow sparingly. The headswap works really well, too. Great job. Thanks! I agree and still think it's too busy, I was tempted to remove some of the trim on the extra plates to make them smoother, but it seemed like a bit of a shame. Subdued colours it was then. The 126th salute you. Impressive stuff here fella! The 68th salute back, thanks! Oh man! All that heavy metal! Could be pretty light with all the... leviatating.... The Leviathan with the pipes on the left side of his breastplate, looks interesting. Do they represent crude repairs or modifications? Symptoms of mutation and Chaos-taint, e.g., the Obliterator virus? The contemptor? I think it's supposed to be field repairs since the IVth tended to repair to a functional level and send it back out for a lot of stuff. So in all likelihood some heavy shot and plating buckled and ripped off, so metal band-aids riveted on. It'd certainly be interesting seeing some Heresy-era Obliterator virus examples, especially considering the contemptor Hrend in the BL novels. It's been a few days, but I did make some small progress - another 4 marines. http://i.imgur.com/5OAFfRd.jpg I'm pleased with the face, if only because I rarely paint a skin tone that isn't caucasian. http://i.imgur.com/UF0rzf6.jpg I still need to paint more marines, though will likely leave 10 for the Loyalty and Treachery thing starting in a week. Gotta pick up more primer, but I reckon I'm making good progress overall since it's not even been a month yet, so we'll see what I can get done in the next 3 days. Xanthier
Made more progress - painted two Rapiers minus crew, the Praevian and attached a new sword to the Praetor and painted that. http://i.imgur.com/AHTJQNz.jpg http://i.imgur.com/jRj1kW8.jpg http://i.imgur.com/f9BrQ2s.jpg Still need to obtain some robots at some points, but for now I need to mulch through all the stuff that still needs to be done. I have the 4 rapier crew all basecoated, so should be able to make good progress on them next, as well as 5 more marines to finish up the second squad. Gradually getting there! Xanthier
Excellent paint jobs. Thanks for the support! Great work. Especially the big guys. Cheers, with luck parts should be turning up soon for more of them. Managed to hit my target for today, which was the crew for the 2 rapiers - http://i.imgur.com/CqjLD54.jpg http://i.imgur.com/sW4W2zT.jpg Also got the next 5 marines half done so they'd likely only need another few hours to finish up. So, this marks the first month. In that time I've painted - 18 Marines 3 Leviathan Dreadnoughts 3 Contemptor Dreadnoughts 2 Graviton Cannon Rapiers with crew A Scimitar Jetbike 5 Tartaros Terminators 4 Saturnine Terminators A Praetor A Praevian I don't think that's a bad haul really! It's only 4 days till the start of Loyalty and Treachery so I'll be aiming to try and polish up most of the remaining Iron Warriors I have left over that period. It's pretty enthusing each time the painting grind is getting to me to just open the cupboard where all the painted ones are stored and see tangible progress after owning them for all this time. It'll be interesting what Heresy box set GW release next really. Xanthier
Another dreaded double post, but I did hit my targer before going to work yesterday! 5 more marines finished, and I was able to pop to my local GW to pick up more paint and some primer. http://i.imgur.com/lpoIYV0.jpg http://i.imgur.com/s0vm8ND.jpg http://i.imgur.com/3twO0oa.jpg Still pondering what specifically I'll pledge for Loyalty and Treachery. At this point I'm thinking the Rhinos and Deredeos, maybe the Sicaran too depending on how fast the rest is. If I can keep up the current productivity I should also be able to polish off some more marines. hushrong
Still looking good! Envious of the work on your chevrons and the weathering adds such grittiness to them. KrautScientist
Excellent work once again! Love the coloured guy! I've always imagined the Iron Warriors to have a fair share of dark-skinned legionaries, due to a throwaway line in some of the old fluff, IIRC, and you've really nailed the skin tone! Marqol
I've been planning on getting some Medusan immortals for my IW chosen but after seeing your one with the shield I am very confused! Xanthier
Still looking good! Envious of the work on your chevrons and the weathering adds such grittiness to them. Have to say my favorite is the breacher. Love the pose and paint work. Thanks! I'll be using him as a Praevian, since standard loadout seems to be shield and combi-flamer. I just need to eventually get him some robot buddies. Excellent work once again! Love the coloured guy! I've always imagined the Iron Warriors to have a fair share of dark-skinned legionaries, due to a throwaway line in some of the old fluff, IIRC, and you've really nailed the skin tone! Care to share your recipe? Thanks, I figured with the number of skin tones just on Earth, either Terrans or Olympians could easy be of varied race. Simple enough to paint, it was Mournfang Brown, given a thin wash of Nuln Oil and then rehighlighted with Mounfang. I then used a few more glazes of Nuln for the stubble and hair. I've been planning on getting some Medusan immortals for my IW chosen but after seeing your one with the shield I am very confused! These are looking awesome! I think I need to follow this as I'm clearly not keeping up with it enough. Yeah, that's a lovely set. For my Praevian I carefully cut away the head and replaced it with an Iron Warriors one, since the rest of them are pretty much unaltered and it helps him look different. It was a nicely productive day today! I not only finished up 8 more marines, eight, but also converted up and finished a Forge Lord / Techmarine. Really happy with his pose and how he turned out. http://i.imgur.com/3QKMynt.jpg http://i.imgur.com/nZasYHv.jpg http://i.imgur.com/xESRvO0.jpg It's nice getting close to having all the basic marines done as yeesh, they get quite samey after a while... I'm now looking forward to the Loyalty and treachery event going up with all the guidelines, as I'm in a pretty good place to polish off nearly everything remaining for it! Xanthier
Been making progress on the first unit pledged for Loyalty and Treachery today. Deredeo numero uno. http://i.imgur.com/0357zrh.jpg http://i.imgur.com/grijZGT.jpg Just have weapons, base and hazard stripes to finish, not counting the missile launcher which is primed. Probably a couple more highlights on the brass. Time permitting I should have this finished within a day or so. Next day off is Wednesday so I should be able to make good strides on the second one then. Ideally I'll have the pair finished and a good amount of work done on the Sicaran by the end of the first week of the pledge. Xanthier
Triple post eh? Sad times. Finished up the first Deredeo after work, so that's 1 unit down for Loyalty and Treachery. I've made a start on the second but it's not particularly exciting at the moment since it's just base metal. http://i.imgur.com/s8st6uh.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Cq9j1qA.jpg http://i.imgur.com/IgbZBFF.jpg The missile launcher is unattached, so can pivot as needed or simply be removable. I'm still waiting for the field generator to be released too.
