Iron Within, Iron Without, Iron Shake it all About

Cool thread. Great hazard stripes on your IWs.

Cheers! Without them the models would likely look fairly mundane.

Managed to finish up the models inbetween chores, always good to pass drying time.

That completes the pledge. I'll likely have most of the remaining marines done next to finish up the units I've already painted - a power axe sergeant and some nuncio vox marines, as well as finally finishing the next two artscale marines.

I'm really digging your IW! Great hazard striping and the weathering is subdued and striking.

I picked Perty up (mainly for his base to use with a warhound) and also because I've been wanting a go at the Iron scheme. Would you mind sharing your recipe?

Awesome painting & conversion skills you've got!

Cheers for the support!

Nice! They remind me of Cylons, and anything with a BSG-vibe is just plain awesome.

Gotta love that mono-visor. All the better for 'tactical depth perception'.

Ditto on the cylon comment! ve how grimy and dark your guys are. Do you use standard GW metalics?

Cheers and yes, I do. Recipe below.

Sure. Prime black, leadbelcher spray. Nuln Oil wash, then drybrush Ironbreaker. Paint on Agrax Earthshade in recesses/lower halves of panels and blend upwards for a gradient. I have an old mithril silver I use to highliught the face, but the newest bright silver works well too. That's it for most of the model.

Dark areas are thinned black (or solid for the shoulderpads). Trims are Retributor Armour, agrax wash, nuln wash then drybrush lightly with Ironbreaker.

Weathering is pretty much just black sponged on lightly.

Yellow is any dark yellow highlighted with a light one, then sponge black and agrax splotched onto some of it.

Lenses are just red, agrax wash, red dot, white dot.

All in all it's pretty quick, most of the time you spend waiting for washes to dry really.

I've also managed to finish up a bunch more models! I figured I'd actually play some games, albeit small skirmish, and so went Iron Warriors for my Shadow Wars: Armageddon roster. Started with 5 marines and after 2 wins I'm up to 8 marines and a cultist meatshield, so it's going 'very well'. Though the cultist isn't done I've painted up the 8 marines I'm now up to and have the 9th at least made.

Leader and a sword dude first. The leader still only has a bolt pistol and sword but after the next game he's getting fancier toys. Really happy with how the running pose came out, with very little chopping!

Basic sword dudes. It's a shame they can't get guerilla skills, as the first one begs to be a medic.

Basic sword dudes 2: Electric boogaloo. The bareheaded one was changed from one of my previously finished models, since swords and boltpistols are fantastic compared to boltguns. Really pleased with the sternguard arm with the scabbard.

Plasma gunners. Lefty is as he was before, and righty was one of the more recent 'finished' ones who had a boltgun, who had his weapon replaced. Plasma guns are nuts in SW: A. Absolutely nuts.

Finally, the last current marine for the band who hasn't been hired yet. he likely will be after 2 more games, fingers crossed. Did a bit more chopping with this one to get a slightly faster running pose, also happy with it. No gubbinz on this thighs yet, I'll likely still add a holster.

Blimey it's been a while eh? I've not done much, but I did finish up a couple of things.

That last SWA marine was finished, and I've painted a whole 3 Primaris marines! Admittedly bases still need to be done on two of them, but close enough. The scale is also very favourable!

Also used a spare Primaris to make some kind of character. I shaved down a MKIII torso to get the iconic plate, and shaved down the primaris front for it to fit relatively well. Close enough, at any rate.

Since I still have a bunch of arms to do for various dreads, I figured I'd go for something a little different this time - I found some pare brazier fists from my Boneripper, so thought that'd do nicely. Still need to paint them, but it at least looks imposing.

Fairly quick and dodgy shots this time, but once more stuff is done I'll take some nicer pictures.

Can't wait to see how that Dread turns out. What color are you thinking for the fire? Regular red, or something more warpy?

I went for the same colour as the plasma, near enough. Turquoise.

Emperor's Armpits! Awesome dreadnought! Pretty neat kitbashes, too.

Cheers! Gotta love that heavy metal.

Are your plasma coils painted as dark blue with light blue edge highlights or light blue with dark blue wash?

Both, depending on how it turns out. I usually start dark and highlight up, then use a darker blue wash to tidy up.

Spent a bit of time and finished up the arms.

Pretty happy with how it turned out!

Excellent job on making that Mk. III breastplate fit a Primaris Marine -- I may have to borrow that idea  The flamefisted Dreadnought is cool beyond words (although I have to admit that I think red/orange flames might have worked even better)!
