Where do you place your HQ choices in your Horus Heresy?

A single power dagger seems kind of meh, wouldn't you want at least two for the extra attack (which is extra important when you want rend that artificer sgt with a power fist). Granted that should rarely happen and you will most likely be shot in which case you're probably better off hitting the floor for the highest cover save you can muster. Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely have to fit one into my Dynat list. I may go ahead and get the twin power daggers just for the sheer badass factor. Sly Marbo lives!

I'm stuck with the praetor + terminator star in a Spartan until my legion's full rules come out including characters.

I used to run a 18 man SoH despoiler death blob with an apothecary and Maloghurst in a Kharybdis...it's not a super Death Star, but it follows Norngahl's line of thinking of making a huge distraction. It would usually draw a bunch of Fire because it threatened scoring and back line units, not that it could kill a Primarch and terminator retinue, but just the ability to soak up damage and distract is worth something.

If you have a starting army and have no place or need of a praetor, get one of the other buffing consuls. You don't always need your HQ to do everything :)

Hehe. Good one, depthcharge.

I for my Part have never seen a IH Player who fields a special character and I don't see special characters very often in general. My regular IF opponent always takes Pollux because it's a badass model, but these "You have to take XY for buff so and so" is all but unknown in my meta.

Doesn’t the cool flavor of these models wear off pretty fast if you use them that way? I know there are awesome characters in the game with great rules and miniatures but if you take them every time they loose their unique status and become just boring standard units, don't they?

Iron hands take Orth a fair bit at the very least

I don't think I have ever met a IH player without Orth in his list...

You mean you can't take him in a list...?

I don't understand, perhaps because I just woke up and haven't had coffee yet. I play AL and TS so i can't have him in a list but I face IHs regularly and they all have Orth running around...

Yes, it's boring to know that I'll be facing orth ever single time...

My Praetor rocks with a squad of 7 suzerain, an apothecary and a chaplain in a LR Phobos! Comes in at like 800 points which is nearly half my army in a 2000 point game. tongue.png

Try adding a techmarine with RAD grenades to that.

A Forgelord you mean?

Though, theoretically with suzys that auto-wound on a 6 to hit hatred would be nice as well while at the same time make them fearless and causing fear. Though the forgelord can repair the car from inside in an emergency I guess.

Scoria rolls with four Castellax and kills everything with TIME power slaps. 'Primarch? More like skidmark'.

Domini attach to Thanatars so they don't get lonely (as they usually get left behind), and keep Outflankers/Deepstrikers away with Augery Scanners. 'Damn child soldiers, get off my lawn!'

I agree that it gets boring sometimes, but I've used the same praetor meta build. I think some of the ther characters are cool because they bring interesting buffs or have different warfare that sometimes involves strategery.
