The Return of Celestine

Designer notes from a page of the battle report (up on the facebook page) suggests that Celestine still has an AP3 weapon (it notes that Abaddon was unlucky to roll 1 for his armour save) - wonder if she is still using her old ruleset.

Wouldn't surprise me to see her remain the same except gain more of a buff ability for the army she is with. Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't get that either and simply picked up her Gemini. Isn't it mentioned in the WD that she was part of a formation including the Gemini, Inquisitor Greyfax and the Heretic Cawl? Whatever the formation bonus is, it can't all come from her. Maybe keeping her old ruleset is all she will get.

Any word on the abilities of the Gemini at all?

My room mate has already told me I am splitting the set with her. What she really said is that when I buy her Crawl for her birthday I can keep Celestine and the Inquisitor.

Is your roommate like my friends? That is to say, when there's a game we decide we want to play we justify purchasing it by giving it as a gift to one of our friends as a birthday present... even if their birthday was 3-4 months ago and we don't really know when their birthday is? biggrin.png

...So, I had to nip up to GW today to get some paints and ended up deflecting the usual 'hard sell' with a bit of chat. The staff their seemed to think that Celestine would be getting new rules, rather than a copy paste job, as she is 'in ascension'. It probably doesn't mean anything but I figured I'd post it anyway.

I did raise what has become my usual counter point that I've been in the salt mine for a while now and it'll probably be copy and paste rules plus you can add a retinue for 40 ppm. 15 for the seraphim + 10 for the superior upgrade to get +1Ld on the stat line + 15 for the power sword. They didn't seem at all that impressed.

This is about what I'm expecting, though maybe the Gemini get some new special rule, but maybe not

Very much this! It is a running joke with books. "I bought you a copy of xxxx for your Nook" when all our readers use the same account.

Just pasting some thoughts I made in the News and Rumors section:

Has anyone here read the January White Dwarf batrep? I am interested if any stats or special rules of Saint Celestine can be gleaned from reading the battle report. For example, if she gets killed in the report do they mention her getting back up and if so then how, which would let us figure out if her ressurection rules remained unchanged. Also, does it say how she and the gemini interact? Does the text specify if she deploys with the gemini twins or with the seraphim or altogether? I am wondering if Celestine and the gemini make up their own unit (like an IG company command squad or a techmarine and his servitors) instead of Celestine being an independent character. this would ruin a lot of the shenanigans I employ by attaching her to deathstars and using her to hit-and-run them out of combat

This logic baffles me, maybe if I explain my thinking someone can point out my flaw. If Abaddon hasa 3+ armor save then he wouldn't have gotten an armor save if Celestine was ap3, and if Abaddon has 2+ armor then his roll of 1 would be unlucky REGARDLESS what celestine's ap is other than ap2 (i.e. ap3, ap4, ap5, etc.). Wouldn't the designer note simply prove celestine does NOT have ap2?

You'd definitely think the "Emperor's Angel" would have an AP2 sword. Especially after even Sisters of Silence come with one, and rare as they might have been (or have been), they're no living Saints with a relic sword :P

As for the Geminae, what worries me about them is possibly it not being possible to put Celestine into a bigger squad if she can't be taken without them.

It implies she does not have an ap2 sword like people hoped, and her last rules had her with an ap3 one, so that's most likely it. What sense is there to be giving her a sword with ap4 or worse?

I think the idea is that Abbadon wearing terminator armor and having gotten to take an armor save at all against Celestine, rather than his invuln, might imply Celestine has basically the same rules and stats she had in the SoB digi-dex.

The Gemini are new, but it will all depend on what the rules are. If the Gemini become a must take to bring Celestine, I am having a hard time imagining any rule they might give the trio making her worth taking in an SoB army.

Hopefully they will keep the digi-dex up for sale and that will still be a way of fielding her. All I wanted was SoB maelstrom cards, we probably won't even get those at this rate. All the chatter from the WD seems to be aiming at Inquisition cards instead.

I'm not usually one for chatter, I've been at this too long. But the rumors were at least right. We got a new canoness, they called that. The Sisters got some new plastic models, they didn't say how many so they called that too. Some assumed a huge SoB plastic release meant a new dex as well. Not what they expected, but C:IA does have Sisters units in print.

GW reset the clock alright. I wont be buying the new Celestine model.

Remember, she who bails, fails.

Light your way in the Darkness with the pyres of burning Heretics....

I'll likely pick up Celestine and the new campaign book but perhaps not all at once or right away.

Lately I have been itching for a different project. Something different and new compared to what I used to do and playing.

And by that I've been feeling an itch to play Black Templars and murder heretics not by shooting them with a holy bolter but by punching them so hard their skulls explode out their rectums.

So the book will likely grab my interest either way and my Sisters will finally get some friends to play with now and then.

I don't know how I could not buy her. GW finally releases something new for Sisters and it's a centre-piece unit, and the Gemini are maybe something never seen before rules-wise. Depending on a lot of factors I may actually just use the old metal Celestine instead, but I definitely want the new one in my collection.

I'm a bit confused as to why they lumped all those models in together. I don't mind the Inquisitor as I want her too but I have no need for Cawl and I suspect when this box is released there will be a glut of spare Cawl's people will be fruitlessly trying to sell off :P

Still, more importantly I need to nail down my updated colour scheme for my Sisters so I can work on the new Celestine as soon as I get her. Does anyone have any experience with scroll-floating Sigmarine models to share? In regard to strengthening the model somehow? I'm concerned the scroll work holding her up will break easily.

You can always add more scroll work under her to give more strength (either with paper or plasticard). I have added scroll work to my Seraphim to get rid of the tabs connected to their feet. I ran a metal wire from the base into the Seraphim and then used the paper scroll work to cover up the metal wire.
