Lovely Celestine and (girl)friends.

I didn't know Ephrael Stern was dead enough to fit her into a dreadnought though. I don't like the plastic ironclad but the iconography you gave the model does make it look better in my eyes.

It's passed the test. Several people now have expected me to roll shield of faith for it, so as aesthetically it fits. I tried to make it look like a basic sister as much as possible, red cuffs and cloths to make it resemble a habit. I even tried some freehand to make a fleur de lis and an aquila on the shoulders to resemble the basic sister model.

it was back in the days when you could order specific bits from a catalog in store. if you made a really cool conversion or custom model you could have it featured in WD. Back then GW was actually interested in hobby rather than just shifting product.

We indeed do not know if a mere human can withstand internment in a dreadnought or survive as one, but beyond that; on one hand, sisters of battle seem to long sitting at the right of the God-Emperor, on the other, the lore for their Spirit of the Martyr act of faith from Codex: Witch Hunters state that "They will die when the Emperor is ready to accept their souls, and not a moment before."

Of course, what really matters, is that they're your models and you think it is/looks/sounds cool.

Fun fact, in the same codex, Celestine actually displays the standard "astartes-pattern survival" required for dreadnoughts: clinging to life despite the most grievous wounds. More specifically, "life lingered within her yet."

I vote seraphim or repentia... or better yet, seraphim and repentia!*  Command squads are cool... but if you buy a command squad you end up with that awful dialogus model.  On the other hand, you get the awesome hospitaller though...

*I mean, that's what I did.  I couldn't choose either! :tongue.:

Not specifically sisters related but it is hobby related.

...So I ran the idea of making a 40k board past the Mrs a while ago and she gave it the OK!

Fired up the printer and got to work. Can you guess what it is?

Models for scale

They're multiplying!!! (drop pod for scale)

Basically they're Munitorum Armoured Containers. I grabbed the design off of thingiverse and it came out really well. The idea I had for the first lot of terrain for the table was some sort of freight yard/space port. Ya know, like an actual tactical objective that you would be fighting over rather than some bombed out ruins. so i'm going to have to print out a whole bunch of these, rather than paying £30 for a box of 3 containers i can print them for less than £5 each! Material cost + p&p + a guess at how much electricity it'll use to print. But DAMN do they take a while to print, about 20 hours if i don't speed it up

I'm not going to bother with sanding down the ridges or anything and painting is just going to be pretty straight forwards rattle can for primer, rattle can base coat, cheap wash (the dregs of what ever is left in a tub of black really really thinned down), then a dry brush and weathering to finish.

I'm getting a little ahead of myself but another idea i had for terrain theme was some sort of power plant, refinery and a some sort of shrine/convent. Gotta do that sisters theme table for my girls to play on!

Another good thing about doing it at home is I might just be able to film video batreps, but that's getting ahead of myself again.

I don't have an airbrush, although it's something i've been thinking about. But yeah, these things got primed then based with a leadbelcher rattle can, shaded, then drybrushed and have been sitting like that for about a year and a half.

I want to buy more models and the only way I can justify the price tag to myself is if my backlog is cleared. So i've resolved to clear my backlog with aiming to have it done by pay day.

Printed off a small test batch of barrels to use as scatter to go with the containers for the table to be (sister and marine for scale). They've turned out nicely, a quick spray with leadbelcher, wash and dry brush and they should look top notch.

In the background, the two penitent engines I've been working on this week that have been sitting half done for over a year.

Thanks.

I printed off a bunch more barrels to use up the last of the spool of filament. I now have 30 barrels to use as scatter. Just painted one up to see how it'll look and i think it's turned out quite well.

Got along to the Homebase today and got 3 sheets of 2ft x 4ft plywood and a few cans of spray paint to start building my 40k table.

This is how it'll be set up when playing. Plus a bunch of the things I've printed so far, still got a lot more printing ahead of me.

Got one of the boards sprayed as a test. i'm quite happy as to how it's turned out. I used a textured finish spray paint which you're supposed to use last after a primer or base coat but i just laid it down straight onto the wood and think it's given it a nice texture to play on.

Close up of the table for a better look at the texture.

While I was shopping i picked up a can of 'cast iron' and 'cast bronze' to use as a base coat on some of the terrain and I have to say i'm fairly happy with how the boxes have turned out as well. Once they've had a wash and dry brush, as well as a bit of weathering they should look spot on.

Update on the weekends work.

Got the tables more or less painted. I think two of the boards could do with one more coat just to finish them off, but that's not going to happen today.

Also got a bunch of stuff primed in Cast Iron and Cast Bronze. Once everything has dried properly I'm going to start washing/dry brushing and weathering.

I'm really looking forwards to getting this finished and getting my girls a game on 'home ground'! I've got a lot of printing and painting to go between now and then though...
