Doghouse
Those are looking really nice, I especially like the last one. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/329614-drop-troops-inbound912-ogryn-tummy/page/5/#findComment-5569823 Share on other sites
jaxom
Thank you! I got the arms and helmets painted up and put all the pieces together: All that's left is the screens/lenses and miscellaneous details. jaxom
And another squad of the S.O.G. complete: I envisage this squad sitting back with the Tauroxes; hence, longer barrels and scopes and no bed rolls. Those will end up on the Taurox. jaxom
I would dislike having to source the bits for an entire army of these guys, but I like where this is going. The question to start thinking about is colours. jaxom
Woof, I am feeling the "almost done with this and want to move on," for the various Drop Troops. I partially blame all the new marine hype, but more so that after experimenting and growing a lot with these Emperor-loving dudes I want to settle down with an established paint scheme and churn out a more unified army. I really hope Call to Chaos is happening in September. Anyway, here's Wonder... I mean work in a progress shot of what I'm doing with the Warhawk squad. Base coat was white rattlecan primer. The undersuit is Wyldwood Contrast Paint, the padding is Snakebite Leath CP, and the armour is Black Templar CP. Visors are Runefang Steel with a coat of Ultramarine CP and a line of Caledor Sky across the top. I slathered the Wyldwood over the padding, recovered it with Grey Seer and then the Snakebite Leather. The difference in under colour (white vs very light grey) brought the colours very close together. I may redo the armour with a metallic base when I do the metal tabards and bionics. ranulf the revenant and Ryltar Thamior 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/329614-drop-troops-inbound912-ogryn-tummy/page/5/#findComment-5594560 Share on other sites

jaxom
Thank you! I consider myself a competent painter, but not great; these parts though paint very nicely. I laid down the metallics on the bionics and the chest armour. The chest armour then got a layer of Black Templar CP and the bionics got Nuln Oil. I did a little metal paint sponging onto the chest armour and metal tabards. jaxom
The Deparmento Munitorum adepts attached to the Special Operations Group have an atavistic dislike towards the sole squad of Harakoni Warhawks. The squad was among those at muster once the fleet transports collated the survivors from the desperate retreat from Cadia, but - to the consternation of the adepts - had no proof-of-orders or an acknowledged place in among the order of battle at the Battle of Cadia. Their sergeant claimed they had arrived in the warzone as part of an Inquisitorial retinue and refused to elaborate. Their equipment, Scion-level, and their heavy augmentations, Skitarii-level, supported their claim in that, whoever their patron had been, their access level must have been high. After extensive purity screening by the Group's Officio Prefectus presence, the Warhawks were entered into the S.O.G.'s table of organization. jaxom
Fun fact: slave ogryns have a bit more around the belly than soldier ogyrns. So I did some stuff. Okay, workable, but not ideal. Did some more stuff. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/329614-drop-troops-inbound912-ogryn-tummy/page/5/#findComment-5600505 Share on other sites
Majkhel
Is that going to be a drop-ogryn? ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/329614-drop-troops-inbound912-ogryn-tummy/page/5/#findComment-5600608 Share on other sites
jaxom
Alas, no, but they may occasionally get a ride in a Valkyrie (I don't know if they can off the top of the head, but the idea amuses me). The kit is nice, but the poses and mix-and-matches are limited. I kind of ran into a wall; thinking I would have to sculpt arms to hold the shields. I still may have to, but for the moment I've got two ideas for shields. One of them is repeatable for every two Ogryns. The sump-hammer arm; the shield will be at held at the side, at waist level. This brings me to the next problem with the kit. You get one very static Ogryn and one more dynamic Ogryn per sprue, primarily based off the legs. Here's the dynamic leg set along with the WiP shield and bionic arm: Normally the arm would be going down towards the waist, but I field down the alignment nubs so I could raise it up into more of shield bash pose. You can't see it very well in the pictures, but I've dinged up the plasticard to make it look more used. ranulf the revenant 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/329614-drop-troops-inbound912-ogryn-tummy/page/5/#findComment-5604265 Share on other sites
