Battle report video Deathwatch vs Thousand Sons 1750

Hello,

Second battle report video done. Not a master by far, and tons to learn concerning making battle reports. I still need to slow down in various phases of the video. But I am also pressed on keeping the video within 15 minutes (unless I want to upgrade my youtube account or divide the battle report into two parts).

Some notes about the game.

I did help the opponent to counter deploy my Alpha strike (which doesn't work anymore apparently). While I rolled in general average and way below on my terminators, my opponent rolled way to good.

But my experience over my opponent gave me a fighting chance.

Thanks for watching.

Bikers are equipped as following:

Bike 1: power sword and melta bomb

Bike 2: power sword and melta bomb

Bike 3: power axe and melta bomb

Bike 4: nothing

Bike 5: nothing

180 points. Melta bombs were added since I had extra points.

Thanks for the kind words.

I do want to make long battle reports too. But as you say not everyone wants to see us geeks roll dices for two hours.

So I decided to go for short battle reports.

In the future I am aiming to work with another group who will focus on longer traditional battle reports. So we will have two options. One short and one long.

Very nice Vash. A very well put together video!

I am thinking your opponent is very new to 1K sons though. You don't hold Ahriman in reserve like that against a small, alpha strike army. That was incredibly risky. That's what Tzaangor are for.... goat bubble wrap.

If it's me, Ahriman rolls once on Telepathy, and hits your squads 3 times a turn with Shriek. (you literally have no defense for this psychic wise). I roll the rest of the dice on Heretech and between Scrap Code and maybe some luck, Ahriman is very easily killing a landraider a turn. Also Ahriman with a disk should be taking the challenges in that scenario.... he's also a -great- warlord as the slow moving 1K sons benefit a lot from D3 infiltrators.

It did seem like the Psychic phase was quite uneventful..... so that's why I'm assuming your opponent was pretty new to them. They obviously live and die in that phase and knowing the entire power range is paramount for success. Ahriman IS the Witchfire god of 40K. His bread is made unleashing the same one up to 3 times a turn.

Deathwatch look great as ever. I did not know you were using a Termie Captain. He looks awesome. It's really too bad what GW did to the Angelis.

On a side note I had my first post FAQ game last night. I could not use the Beacon in the first turn because of the changes, my opponent knew this, and put his entire army on the podded squad with the Beacon, I lost it first turn. Ouch. That made for a long trek for the Custodes I had on my table edge. It's going to be an adjustment for me. ;)

Great batrep. I'm really impressed by your editing! Good luck to your friend as he embarks on a journey of the Psychic phase saving his butt! :)

What I like about the report, is its concise and to the point! No rambling and flying off in tangents, and what someone has for breakfast! smile.png

Ha ha :D True. But those battle reports have their charm too. But it has to be made from people who know the game and have a decent sense of humour. But... I have grown tired of every single battle report is at least 45 minutes and more commonly around one and a half hour. To be honest... as a father of two, full time job takes me around the world (so I need to spend my time with my family when I am home), I can't sit and "waste" time on 2 hours battle report all the time :D

The player was fairly new to Thousand Sons. I had to help him counter deploy my alpha strike. It never really occurred to me that I should have told him to start with the terminators and Ahriman on the table. To be totally honest I though he had a grand plan with keeping them in reserve. He told me after the game that he was afraid of the alpha... and he totally forgot to deploy them once I had countered my own alpha.

But lucky me, if they were on the table from turn one and not turn three as it turned out, I would have been in deep waters for sure.

Combined with his God like dice rolls I would have been tabled in turn 4.

Thanks for the "like" of the battle rep. Did learn a lot from the first one I made. Even upgraded my basic editing program to a "pro" version (iMovie used in the first and Final Cut Pro in the second one. iMovie is pretty much a light version of Final cut pro).

Ah the Terminator Captain :)

I decided to keep that terminator unit in theme. Couldn't add a normal captain now could I? ;)

He isn't finished yet though, trying out a new technique to paint black and need some extra time to finish him up.

But there are better editing programs out there for sure, but for now this will do. Still need to optimise the recording of the game and presentation.

The FAQ sure did a number one us. But I was expecting most of the changes, so I prepared my self. As you might have noticed I have much less drop pods, only one now, and much more focus on transports that can move and a full bike unit.

Can space marines do this better, yes... but I am set on making this work one way or another.

The Beacon will be used in my army still, but as a beta strike or "get out of jail free card" from close combat.

Leaning more and more over to CAD and adding some Kill Team formations here and there for specialisation.

Thanks for the video. I had to press pause a few times to fully read what was on screen, but at the same time, it's also nice to have a short video getting to the point. The editing is also great.

PS : Your minis looks very good, did you post some pictures of them around here ?

Thanks mate.

Yah I know that its a bit to fast some times. I am still working on how to fit all the clips and information within the time limit. The time limit is 15 minutes, and thats based on the youtube standard account I have. If I want to extend that time, I need to upgrade my account and I am not really that much of a dedicated youtuber for that ;)

Also, with the time limit I can "keep to the point".

Many of my miniatures are posted in this forum. Link is in my description/signature (under the Deathwatch Expansion I banner), "Deathwatch picture log".

Not up to date at the moment, The bikers are not included, and there are some minor additional units I have painted since last.

Once I am done with "everything" I'll update the post. What I have left is some terminators, a rhino, some characters, and a handful veterans.

Again, thanks for watching and commenting.

Short form Batreps are nice really enjoyed it

It would help if you could pan out over the table for a birds eye view in our gaming room that would be standing on a chair ;)

I hate Hell Turkeys shame we can't get 2+ save on anything that can go on a bike or jetpack

I moved off Drop pods as I couldn't get enough traction with the forces I could put out with the points, CAD would give you a flexible option for this, brave man fielding a Land Raider in our meta armour value is pretty meaningless there's so much grav & haywire floating around + Tau hitting rear armour anything above 35 points for a Rhino transport seems expensive.

Birds eye view is a good advice! I have the option to change the display angle so I still can see what I am recording with my camera (using a camera made for photographs, so its primary function isn't recording).

But a chair might still be needed as I am a short guy biggrin.png

Yah the Helldrake is a pain. But I see no big issue with it in my future lists. going more and more over to jumping into transports.

I agree on the Drop pods thing. I have left them behind me now, specially after the FAQ. Also, even before the FAQ, I could feel that mobility after the initial alpha was a problem.

With rhinos, cheap transports, I can do so many things now. Mobility, while limited, is one. Blocking enemy line of sight or paths. Claiming objectives and more.

Land raider is a brave choice indeed. But my core group don't have grav spam or haywire spam. And the community in general (local meta) isn't spamming it either, as it has scared off land raiders and such. So at the moment, it rolls fairly safe.

But I am currently investing in more rhinos, to save som points and field more bodies.

Oh and by the way, if its anyone in our "bro" group who has haywire and grav to an abundance, it is me :D

Admech/Skitarii.

And for the rear shot, of course I play Tau with a maxed out Optimised stealth Cadre.

Upgrading the time limit on your youtube account is pretty painless, it's just to verify that you're an actual person mostly:

Oh is that so :D

Then I might do that. A few extra minutes would do wrong.
