BloodFox
When I first heard about them I thought that the Solar Auxilia were nothing more than a cool looking re-skin of the Imperial Guard and promptly ignored them, but after reading the fluff/lore for them I've come to the conclusion that they are pretty damn cool. They were the elite of the elite of the Imperial Army, second only to the Astartes Legions and the more powerful Mechanicus armies. That said, despite the higher level of quality they represent in comparison to the average guardsman, there are no records of them that I can find in the modern 40k fluff. So does anyone know what happened to them? You'd think the Imperium would keep around one of the only semi-effective forces capable of countering Space Marines that didn't involve calling in Knights, TItans or other Astartes but I can't find even a single line explaining their fate. Brother Tyler
Perhaps they evolved into the Militarum Tempestus, whether through a direct evolution or simply by having their capabilities represented in the "modern" era by the latter organization. BloodFox
From what little I know of the Scions that seems like a definite possibility. I know very little about the forces of the Tempestus though, so I can't really say. shandwen
To me it seems that the SA slowly devolved into the IG. Through lack of replacement vehicles and equipment the regiments they "fell" in status to no longer having functional dracosians or many larger tanks and being re-equiped with chimeras and taurox's. Vodunius
Conquest lists a great many duties under their remit, the first one listed being the garrisoning of warships. In my headcanon at least a portion of their ranks were stripped of their ground assets and assigned to the Imperial Navy rather than the guard. Sandlemad
To me it seems that the SA slowly devolved into the IG. Through lack of replacement vehicles and equipment the regiments they "fell" in status to no longer having functional dracosians or many larger tanks and being re-equiped with chimeras and taurox's. This sounds plausible. No grand edict removing them but just a slow degradation and reform into the usual, more easily supplied and outfitted imperial guard. Their gear replaced with simpler equipment, the dictates and manuals that laid out the solar auxilia template replaced with any number of broader departmento munitorum-approved guides. Reclusiarch Darius
I don't think they disappeared persay, its just likely the form they took in 30k wasn't tenable as the Imperium lost the ability to produce a lot of their standard weapons and equipment. As others have mentioned, I'm pretty sure there is a Saturnite regiment of Scions in 40k, possibly a Jovian one too. Scion carapace armour isn't quite the same as void armour, probably borrows systems and materials technology. Hellguns are definitely a step up from volkites, as they're both easier to produce (as they're based off standard las tech) and produce a better armour-piercing bolt (helpful as Scions are expected to deal with traitor or renegade Astartes).
