Bought a copy too. Must say the appeal of a different chapter and AD-B's continued interaction with the community tipped me over the edge for the limited edition.

Really looking forward to it now. Will give me something to do with the Conquest marines too

I knew it was on the boards SOMEWHERE. I just couldn't find it in this thread :laugh.:

Okay, so transverse crests are the ones like on the Mark IV and Mark III marines, longitudinal are the ones like the Primaris Captain, Sternguard Sergeant and Centurion Sergeant.

That's helpful.

Some of that stuff is from my notes and either never made it into the novel or changed over time, but the crests are still dead on.

Colours for them are still dead on as well? 'cause I just got merself one of those Primaris to test paint jobs on.

Wonder if BL will do something similar leading up to the release as they did with Warmaster limited edition, Abnett read a part of the book. If memory serves me right they also had an unboxing.

Would be fun to see A D-B read aloud. Mostly to see if he can pull of the same air of coolness that Abnett have.

Nope. I read out loud every night for the most obvious of reasons (I have two smaller versions of me in the house) and I have a weird thing where it makes me yawn a lot.

I was so weirded out by it that I Googled it, and it's actually a thing. Who knew? I've yawned twice just typing this. That's how weird/bad it is.

Anyway, yawning isn't cool. So I'll leave it to Dan.

I thought that my yawning whilst reading the bedtime stories was just a little weird thing I do. Glad to know I’m not the only one who does this.

Ordered and keen as a bean :tu:

While I’m obviously most excited for the book itself, I’m looking forward to the IA add-on as well. Has anyone said yet how big that is??

+edit+

I’ll not be using the transfers etc either btw - for anyone wanting those, feel free to get in touch and we’ll figure something out.

Same size as the book, maybe 10 spiral-bound pages then the lovely layered plates showing armour.

Yep! EDIT: Mostly.

- Sergeants have red transverse crests.

- Veteran Sergeants have red-and-black striped transverse crests.

- Lieutenants have red-and-black striped longitudinal crests.

- Captains have white longitudinal crests (EDIT: or black and white longitudinal crests.)

- EDIT: The Chapter Master, High King Arucatas the Swordbearer, has "I've not decided; he hasn't put his helmet on yet")

- The First Company has the inverted trident marking on their helmets, like in my avatar. A lot of them also have it tattooed on their faces, in red or white ink.

The Spears don't necessarily use those names for their ranks, though.

Now I need to source some black primer, Caledor Sky and Lothern Blue

I mean, I've got a bunch of the Primaris Marines from Dark Imperium I was intending to use for my Dark Angels. Now, I think I'm gonna strip them and then paint them blue.

Need to add plumes though :laugh.:

Anyone who got the book at the open day able to confirm the plumage for the chapter? I'm assuming Sergeants, Lieutenants and Captains get them, but what colours?

Also, who here has pre-ordered from Black Library before? Like, when I pre-ordered it yesterday, it accepted my pre-order and says "Acknolwedged" for the status and when I view the order it says "Awaiting packing". How long does it take before we get updates? Does it take UNTIL the release date or? Sorry, just extremely antsy as this is the first time I pre-ordered a book from Black Library, not from the Games workshop webstore :laugh.:

Oppps! Someone beat me to it.

Does anyone have the paints needed to paint the right color blue?

Caledor Sky and Lothern Blue that Gederas mentioned might work but I'm curious if anyone had any other recipes.

Also, thank you to everyone that pointed out I could still order this on the Black Library website. I'll be checking in again on the 7th and ordering my copy if they are still available.

And my recipe for Spear blue is:

1. Prime with Army Painter Crystal Blue spray paint.

2. All over wash with 50/50 Lahmian medium/Drakenhof Nightshade. Remove pooling wash with a brush, and then wipe the whole model very gently with no pressure with toilet paper, while the wash is still wet.

3. Drybrush the whole thing with AP Crystal Blue normal paint.

4. Edge highlight with Lothern Blue

5. Fine edge highlight with Fenrisian Blue.

Just ordered mine too. Was really sitting on the fence with the price and also many of the extra bits would appeal to more of the gamers who play the game as I mostly read the BL books and paint select models as a hobby.

I am sure the story will be awesome plus giving my support.

I wonder if the first book by French for the Siege will also be like this or more of the typical LE hard cover/artwork.

Anyways a great Xmas present for myself :)

You're using basically the same colours as me, Crystal Blue is Army Painter's equivalent to GW's Caledor Sky ;)

I've been wondering about that as well and really hope they don't go down that route with Heresy limited editions.

Please keep the price down to the other LE's at 55 EUR/40 pounds and make them nice editions with color artwork so that you get something special for what is already a very hefty sum for a book.

Yes, but Caledor Sky doesn’t come as a nice spray paint :)

I wish Black Library would do a pilot program where they pay authors to write 'sourcebooks' the way they pay for them to do shorts and novellas. It would incentivize things like the Spears Index Astartes article, and if they tied the release into a limited run of transfers and collectible items for limited editions, you'd probably see blow out sales figures like with this. Probably get away with charging 80ish dollars for a regular one (which is 20ish more than the video game guide hardback and artbooks iirc).

So my order just got shipped. Which was a nice surprise since I didn't think it would ship until the 1st of December. Hopefully I get it before the weekend, leaving me plenty of time to read.

Wait, what? HOW?

Mine still says "Awaiting packing" for the status

Edit: Spoke too soon, just got the email saying it's been dispatched.

Got the same e-mail. Are there usually spoiler threads for discussion about it? Despite being a member for 12 years, I think this is my first time clicking around the BL part of the forum.

Also, I've been reading some Late Roman Military books and I'm constantly intrigued by the clash of cultures, it even provoked a little speculation on my part. The differences in cultures are especially noticeable with leadership that's from "central" Rome that are in charge of soldiers that are very much local to their respective areas and, while certainly skilled fighters, don't always have the flavor of discipline that the Roman officers were used to commanding. That might be a nice parallel with the Mentor liaison representing "Rome" coming out to the backwater of the Veil (Roman Britain).

Tangentially related, sword-and-buckler was a popular method of fighting - might be the right time to model some marines with a targe or something similar.

I wonder if we'll have something analogous to the Scots of that time period? I suppose that would be a little too on-the-nose.

Yes, members are supposed to use the spoiler tags. That doesn't guarantee that they will actually use them, though, so tread carefully. If someone forgets to use spoiler tags to hide spoilers, send them a PM and ask them to edit the offending post(s). If they don't, you can REPORT the post so that the mods can edit the spoiler tags in.

I just saw that my copy has shipped, too. When I've pre-ordered previous items from GW, I've been able to pick them up in the store on the "ship by" date listed for the product (i.e., the day that the product becomes available for regular purchase). Since I had the book shipped to my home instead of my local GW (in my haste I was a complete idiot this time), that means that the book will probably arrive at my house before the "ship by" date, which, if I recall correctly, was 1 Dec.

Ooh, so it might show up before the 1st? That's awesome!

Also, speaking of awesome, WarhammerTV just posted this video, how to kitbash a Primaris Captain of the Emperor's Spears:

Now I'm wondering, what spears are there that one could use if they don't want to use Xenos tech? Someone mentioned the Stormcast Prosecutors' spears or the Stormsuge Trident from that kit.

And tomorrow we're getting the how to paint. Now, who wants to bet it'll basically be the exact same as Rathamanti's colour-scheme?

I don’t think so, what with the heretical Army Painter paint :D
