Just a quick question guys.

I am looking for a helm colour for my sergeant marines, as my regular helm colour is red, i dont fancy a different shade red. I was going to use yellow in honor of the IF, but my lense colour is currently yellow.

What do you wise fellows suggest?

First WIP update (I typed this out and just realised this challenge doesn't need WIP posts)

I'm trying three things out with this challenge.

1. Better airbrush control. Up to now I've been pulling the trigger all the way back and just blasting paint out. It's been good for basecoating but a bit more practice and I can get more done. Looks like I'll have to mask other area's until I figure out what's causing the over spray (could be the airbrush but I'll see if it's my flaw instead of blaming the tools straight away msn-wink.gif )

2. Shading with layers. Putting down a dark paint on shadowed area's. May as well use the same colour and see how it comes out!

3. A paint scheme for my IF. I like the Crimson Fists so I thought I'd try to include their colour in my 30k army in some little way. I didn't really like the partial black schemes and after looking at a colour wheel for awhile I realised that Red and Purple are complementary colours for Yellow, so I thought I'd give it a go. It breaks up the yellow and is slightly different to other schemes I've seen.

I have a WIP shot of a Rhino with this here -

So with that, I declare my VOW COMPLETE!

Spectacular models as usual and the presentation makes them stand out even more - it all looks very professional. Have you shown us anywhere else what your photo setup / lightbox looks like? If not, would you care to share?

Cheers, buddy! I wrote about my hobby setup here. smile.png

So just this one and one more and I am done smile.png

Duuuude, your fists are looking so nice! I love the high contrast between the bright yellow and your sleek black. Great use of transfers, too!

This event does require WIP shots! From the OP:

1) You look at your collection and pick at least one model to paint. The selected models can be assembled, undercoated and/or basecoated with their main colour. No more. If unsure, ask me. I reserve the right to disqualify models which do not stick to this rule.

2) Take a picture of these models, upload it to an online gallery (preferably B&C), and post it in this thread along with a vow stating the number of models to complete by the 31st March and any other details you deem to be relevant (be creative). Once you've made your vow, no changes to it can be made unless I approve those changes (so send me a PM if you need to change something).

1. Sounds like you're using a dual action airbrush - you're right in that highlighting and preshading requires a little more delicacy. Just practice on some non-expensive models or items before you start on actual miniatures - you'll soon find out what works and what doesn't, and you'll prevent yourself from potentially having to remove paint. thumbsup.gif

2. Do you mean preshade with the same colour? Because that won't work - you need to preshade with a darker colour than the one with which you'll be spraying over the preshade. smile.png
3. The blue-purple of the Crimson Fists will give a very unique scheme when combined with that beautiful yellow of yours. Are those darker panels on the rhino in dark blue?

It's just an initial photo though? Some of the others I've followed stipulate x number of WIP photos.

1. Yeap, dial action. I decided to start with preshading so I could make more mistakes, covering up with yellow will be a little harder but I should get it done with another layer of paint.

2. Sorry, I mean preshade with dark blue. I'll be painting over it with yellow, except the shoulders.

3. Yeap! I had the rhino painted in that color originally for a CF army that I never finished. I make mashed the panels and one door and changed the rest to yellow.

Using Vallejo Golden yellow mixed with a drop or two of burnt umber to darken it slightly. Vallejo Blue Angel is the dark blue.

@coldfyre - thanks mate appreciate it.

@paulJam - the only tip I can give you is paint the speeders before you assemble them. The edge highlighting is just hours spent with a GW artificer layer brush and a bolt load of patience.

Thanks

*What day is it? Is it still March?!*

The burden of existence has been weighing heavily and sucked up most of my time... should get a day of painting in tomorrow though :)

You and I are in the same thunderhawk...

Life denied me my hobby time. I haven't given up but I know I won't finish on time...

Seriously? I hope you mean subassembly... could you give a rundown of the different subassemblies you do before painting and eventual construction?

Most of the main colour done now.

I'd like to try to work a small amount of red in but not sure how. Perhaps a stripe or two or on the weapons, something small.

Sorry buddy, but the dread doesn't read as Imperial Fists to me anymore, with that amount of blue worked into it. Also, the blue-preshaded yellow comes off as greenish to me. I'm afraid that adding red will only work to further the lolipop thing it has going now. Just my opinion, mind you! If you like it, I say totally go for it. It's your model and if you think it's cool, it is cool. smile.png

My vow is complete!

May Rogal Dorn find me worthy to stand at his side in the final battle.
