Hi Guys,

Long time lurker, dipping my toes into two things:

1. Becoming active on the boards.

2. Starting 30k.

So this will be my first 30k Army, and im super hyped!

Over the past week this lot arrived: (if the image is upside down, sorry I dont know how to fix that)

CustodesBlog0001TheFirstPurchase

And i got myself a ticket to the warhammer fest HH GT.

So Ive got 3 months to make a 2k army (no pressure).

Ill post some potential army lists later on today if anyone wants to give feedback, and hopefully this will be a nice place for battle reports and painting as I grow my collection.

Secret Forge.

So I said army list ideas would come first, but then i started painting...

So here is the WIP of my first custodian, all the base colours done, lots of highlighting and shading left to do, but i think he is looking pretty good for table top standard.

Hope you like them, the white is in homage to the Emperor vs Horus diorama that has lived at warhammer world for ages. (Not sure if ill get around to doing the silver swirls all over it)

Army list ideas coming soon!

SecretForge

Ok so ive got three ideas for the 2k points at the warhammer fest HH event, which do you guys think would be best? (I'm still completely new to HH and have no idea about what the meta will be or even what i need to be concerned about).

Is melta prevalent enough to put armoured ceramite on everything?

I've got the following available to make a list out of, but I'm finding that once i include the toys i want, i can barely fit 10 infantry models into the list.

30 custodes (1 has a spear) (conversions can be done for terminators etc)

3 coronus carriers

2 caladius

1 galatus

3 achillus

Here are my three list ideas so far.

If you're planning on using at the tournament then I would say ceramite is good choice as you don't know what you'll be fighting. In casual games it depends if you know what kind of army your opponent will use. It has saved my Caladius a few times already. As for the lists i do like the one with all the Dreads, but I've been finding the Caladius really pulls its weight so I can't see myself without one.

One final thing to show this weekend: the WIP on my tribune.

I take it the hammer is a counts as fist? I see you used Ixion Hale too. Thats what I did for my tribune, although i kept his original head.

Thanks for your input, I was actually concerned that the Caladius might be over costed for its armament, so hearing from people who have experience of its success makes me less concerned (I could always do 3 dreads and the Caladius).

Do you have any experience with how footslogging units of custodes perform? Im concerned that they don't really have any ranged impact, so they are essentially wasted points for a large portion of the game. But the idea of one larger unit with 2 support units in carriers does apeal to me aesthetically.

Yes the hammer is to represent a Solarite Gauntlet (I checked with the warhammer world team, and they are ok with it for this event as the official model for custodes doesn't exist yet)... and I like hammers, so ill probably keep it for future events if I can get away with it.

Thanks

I've been switching between two lists, but with both I've gone for mobility. One has my Hetaeron Guards in a Coronus Transport and my guard and sentinel squads infiltrate. My other list has my troops deep striking, along with some Sagitarium Guards (Thanks to Valdor), and then i've got two Jetbike Squads for all the mobility.

And I do recommend the Coronus. It has great firepower for its cost (155pts with ceramite) and is a pain for the enemy to destroy. Its a shame its not an assault vehicle, but we can't have everything.

Not much to show this week, building these guys takes ages!

I've managed to build the first 15 custodians, and I think that should be enough for warhammer fest.

Im genuinely impressed by the coronus its a transport that actually looks like it could transport what its meant to! its a really nice weighty size, although im a little afraid to paint it, as its panels are huge.

Looking cool.

It depends on what colours you paint it. I find some colours go better over large flat areas than others. Or you put a transfer in the middle.

So are you gonna pick up the Talons of the Emperor box out next week?

Hi Guys,

Thanks about the white, inspiration comes from the emperor vs horus diorama at warhammer world (don't know if its still there).

Its just air brushed, I'll take some photos as I paint the rest of the guys if you want a step by step.

This weekends post is still building (but Ive gotten to the end of it YAY!!!)

All the stuff for warhammer fest has been built:

CustodesBlog0008WarhammerFestArmyWIP2

I made a mistake while putting the contemptor together, and had to be a bit creative with one of his wrist weapons, but I think its passable.

I might be able to get a game in next Saturday, so I've really got to get some paint on them so I'm not embarrassing my opponent with a sea of grey. So hopefully Ill have a battle report for you next week!

Oh and one small thing I noticed while building my dudes:

In the guardian squads the ones with shields. You swap the shield for your vexilla, and you have a close combat weapon. So I've been giving those guys the solarite gauntlets, as they aren't specialist weapons, so the gauntlet guys can have 3 attacks.

I'll try and put out a step by step for one of my dreadnoughts, but it will be a few weeks as I'm bulk painting for warhammer fest. But Ill make sure to take a photo or two at each stage.

Battle Report coming tonight... Custodes Vs Word Bearers.

sneak peek.... (sorry if its upside down)

Scenario:

Take the missile installations (2 objectives in the center of the missle installations worth 3 points each) with the HH secondary objectives.

Deployment: Dawn of war.

DEPLOYMENT

I won the dice off for deployment, and opted to deploy first. Having picked the infiltrate warlord trait I deployed my two caladius tanks on the right flank, and protected them from the deep striking plasma squad with the sword and board dreadnought. In the centre I deployed my three spear wielding dreadnoughts with the plan of flanking my infiltrating grav carriers, and gaining the side armour of the spartan, with either the dreadnoughts, or my caladius.

My opponent deployed centrally, with his terminators on the right, predators on the left and his spartan behind his tactical rhinos.

I infiltrated my two sentinel squads (with tribune) on the far right flank, as a protection for my support tanks, and as a counter to his scary primarch death-star (I was curious to see if my custodes could take on the word bearer elite). The custodian squad was sent to flank the left, to remove the threat of the predators and to remain safe from the threats to my right for objective securing later.

CustodesBlog0009Battle1

EARLY TURNS

My first turns of shooting didn't accomplish what I wanted, which was the removal of the spartan (and my opponents deathstar mobility) However I did manage to remove 4 of his terminators and a rhino.

My opponents first shots cracked thunder against the hull of my tribunes carrier, and destroyed it, but none were harmed in the explosion. His drop pod scattered from its intended destination in-front of my carriers, but scattered back to his lines.

After weathering a hail of fire, my tribune and his unit made combat with the support squad, and ran the cowards down, along with their hated chaplain, unfortunately this put them right infront of my opponents lines, and his daemonic monsters waiting to charge (I didn't fancy their chances alone vs 10 gal vorbak and Lorgar).

MID GAME

The carrier on the right spent the game firing shots into the side of the predators and was largely ineffective.

My opponents tacticals made a break for the central objectives, into the 3 waiting dreadnoughts (but they were concerned with gunning down the spartan, before it could claim more of my armoured hulls).

Eventually the dreadnoughts brought the spartan down, with the help of the caladius support, but it took 2 turns of concentrated fire power.

CustodesBlog0018Battle1

The spartans cargo disgourged, and charged my tribunes unit, but they held firm, making an insane number of inv saves, and both units began to grind down each others numbers, while my tribune and lorgar engaged in single combat. Even with the vile lords sorceries my tribune held firm and round after round they battled.

The second unit of sentinels disembarked their transport and ran to their tribunes aid, but they were unfortunate in charge rolls, and took several turns to rescue their lord from the twisted beasts.

LATE GAME

After dealing with the threat of the spartan, my dreadnoughts ran rampant through the tactical squads on the objectives and the predators in the back lines, leaving only Lorgar and his minions on the field.

The possessed eventually brought down the last of the sentinels guarding my tribune in his duel with Lorgar, but just as it looked dire for him reinforcements arrived in the form of a dreadnought, and more sentinels. Over the last few turns, the field was the emperors, but in the final epic moments of the battle, my tribune bested lorgar, only for him to miraculously be snatched away from the field by some unknown power (later pict recordings show a gigantic figure picking him up and putting him in a box, but no one on the field could confirm this image, and it was purged from the records as dangerous and inciting of heresy.)

CustodesBlog0019Battle1

AFTER ACTION:

There wasn't much that I could take from this game, as my opponents primary source of threat was held up all game by insanely good inv rolls. I was a little disappointed by my shooting. But once they arrived, WOW those dreads just munched everything in 2 quick turns.

The Tribune is excellent, and tanked Lorgar for basically the entire game, eventually dragging him down.

The sword and shield dreadnought did nothing all game, but ensured that my back lines weren't threatened by the plasma support squad, which I again got lucky in their scatter, and ineffectiveness of their first round of shooting into my tribune.

Overall I felt that this was a pretty one sided affair, but that couldn't be helped as we were both bringing everything we had, and the dice were on my side.

The next report is alpha legion vs my custodes. And its considerably closer game, with much drama.
