Democracy? In this setting? How about name every month a jury of 3 or 5. Via random.org or so. One member should always consist of the legion creator. And every member who is chosen HAS to vote, read the text or their character, unit, gearslot is reduced by 1. No, this is not a joke. Sometimes you have to put out the wip before you can spend sugar.

I do like the jury idea and the creator sitting in on it. While I'm waiting on Mikhal's response, Skal, anything you'd like to see for the Warbringers? I was thinking about writing something about their recruitment process or how they reacted to the warrior lodges.

No, that's unreasonable. We're not forcing people to become judges and then penalizing them when they don't meet our standards. Have you, or anyone, ever heard of a painting challenge where the judge was under threat of penalty?

Outside of that, the only other question I have is how many judges, 3 or 5?

That seems like more admin than is ideal, and that could impede our main objectives in this project. If newcomers see stuff about penalties, I hardly see it encouraging them. I'd much rather we say "there's room to spare in our sandbox, just be sure to check with someone before you play with their toys".

For not participating. A hobbyproject lives from the contribution and commitment of the members. From the respect for the others. Aknowledging their work. Lacking that, the project has a problem.

And you can change the perspective: view it not as penalty. everyone who add a short story etc, gets a one bonus slot. If he wants to keep it and is chosen as judge, Just read and vote and justify your vote. If not, then you seem not interested in the bonus slot.

But as this is already ruled out:

5 judges.

As weird as it might sound, I kind of agree with Mikhal.

If one does not have the interest or time to act as a judge, it's ok. That can happen. But if one declines every time, does he "want" to participate at all?

I mean, this is a group project. Not one of three or four. Everyone should somehow contribute. And if that is not the case, doubts may come up. And I'm counting myself, as well. I haven't been that productive on the last months as I'd like to be.

If it turns out that one is not interested anymore, others would have less work due to his Legion loosing slots. I'm not underlining the penalty but rather the effort of the entire team. :)

I acknowledge the arguments made along with the opposition and close the debate on penalties and bonuses in regards to the fluff challenge given that we have a narrow consensus within the project.

So far, only Mikhal has given me a vote for how big the jury should be, which was 5.

Also, I had originally planned on pitching the idea and implementing it on Sunday, so I would be able to make the announcement on the first of the month. We're now on October 3rd, so I have a new question: should we try to implement this system this month or wait until next month?

Give me until next month to get my head around it.

I'm really much happier with just encouraging those that feel able to pitch in, and allocating months based on which faction needs the work most.

On the first point, I understand, but I figured that introducing an element of competition would encourage people to pour more effort in. And it gives us a reason to post a few entries from each month to the invitation thread to show off to the rest of the B&C community. After all, this is a "Challenge".

On the second point, I'm confused. Are you asking to change the Legion/non-Legion schedule?

I think it should be 5. If we're all participating then we should all read each others entries and vote on them.

Also, I thought I could write something on the Legion beliefs and customs. The small bit of fluff written about the Legion being honorable warriors and the like, I figured it could be expanded upon further. I thought it was a good start but needed some buffing up.

Alright, it's been pretty unanimous that we have a 5-man panel.

The votes on when to implement the new system are divided equally between two votes. And we're now four days into October, so I'm increasingly hesitant to try to get this started right now.

So let's start in November, or perhaps closer to preview publishing, if could drum up a wider band of influence/interest, even people who might not write could be interested by the contest like the zeitgeist and join our parallel timeline; and visa versa, especially since ours is player we could have a possibility for campaigns that actually influence the universe, which is what drew me into 40k; and that was an unexpected tangent.
