The Void Revenants - Snake?! SNAAAAAKE!?

Wonderful little choices for the Primaris Marines. It's amazing what a few select bits can do to improve the character of a model. The Sergeant, in particular, looks quite good.

Not to mention that glorious Kill-Clade, too, of course! I do hope you don't entirely neglect them now that there are new toys in your hands, though I confess I probably would do exactly that in your situation :D

@Vairocanum: Cheers! Yeah was thinking of replacing the whole banner to fit it in slightly better with the army theme.. Some kind of archaeotech banner?

@Soldier of Dorn: Thank you, yeah it really makes the marines pop (the HH heads work sooo much better than the regular Primaris too smooth ones). Don't worry now I have finished the intercessor squad the Kill Clade should get some love!

@Olis: Thank you, glad you like him.

Presenting the first complete squad I have painted in a loooong while: Void Revenants Acquisitor squad Five/Gamma.

The Void Revenants are unique for a chapter as they do not seem to recruit from the usual feral or death world populations for astartes aspirants, not that this is noted as unusual by the Administratum,  as not much is known about the reclusive chapter or their base of operations. But they pay their geneseed tithes on time, mediated helpfully by the Cyclops Cabal of the Inquisition who are also based in the area.

In reality aspirants are grown from huge banks of clone stock, with genetic traits randomised to ensure diversity in candidates and to prevent disease or infection from wiping out an entire tank-clutch. Out of a 1000 tank-born less than 20 prove suitable for aspirant trials, and approximately 5 survive these trials for implantation of their first astartes organs. The rest are rendered down to genetic material, converted to servitors or Orvi Gun Clones and some of particular interest are dissected by Mechanicus and Inquisitorial members of the Cabal.

This process is only possible due to the archaoetech and forbidden technologies from Mankinds heyday gathered by the Cabal on their Fortress moon of Apophis, which conveniently operates as the fortress monastery for the Void Revenants....

Acquisitor Squad Five/Gamma: One of the earliest units to receive the benefits of the Primaris procedure pioneered by Cawl, which had been "donated" by concerned parties to the Void Revenants. They are highly unusual being one of the few squads who are derive from a single gene line, being brothers in both a Chapter and familial sense. They are considered totems of good luck by the older veterans of the Revenants and regarded with jealousy by other less auspicious Primaris units.

Acquisitor Sergeant Lukas EX/193 (193 signifies their Clutch origin): The first of the tank clutch to be decanted, he showed decisive leadership capabilities and problem solving in both neural simulations and aspirant trials, for this Chapter Elders recommended he be placed in command of the squad. However, outside the battlefield he is extremely cold and monosyllabic, even in regards to his clutch brothers.

Brother Varrick EX/193: Brash and raucous, Varrick has been disciplined by Lukas on numerous occasions for inappropriate comments and jokes during missions, but his combat performance cannot be faulted and would follow his squad-brothers into the Eye of Terror itself.

After finishing this squad feel like painting a small army is nowhere near as daunting as it used to be! Any comments/criticisms/encouragement to continue is more than welcome.  I have 3 Primaris remaining who are in need of some names so thematic suggestions are welcome, naming protocol should follow this guideline: First name then EX/193 (Feel free to add some short fluff).

Great looking squad! Nice bits of fluff too as well! Not sure how well this would work, but for the banner instead of having it "cloth" maybe you could just have one like a curtain of cables hanging down with various tech bits and icons attached? Again not sure if it would fit in with what you're looking for, but the regular looking one would work just as good too after some of your great free hand.

@Lemainus: Cheers man!

@Vairocanum: Glad you like the squad, and will have a go at make the banner from cables and tech gubbins, cheers for the suggestion.

Fresh off the painting table may I present:

Warden Vrell, the Endjin Blessed.

"The Vault is here brothers. Can you not here the whispers of its data djinn, the blessed psalms of it caretaker-programs? It calls, and we as Void Revenants shall answer. May the Cyclops Endjin and Emperor guide our hand and our blades.."

Warden Vrell addressing his men after their deployment to the Rust Lands of Innesporte.

I love the way your primaris are coming out. The white paint job makes me want to see you do some Luna Wolves too. Something about the way you've got it down just looks right on a marine.

The background is neat. Cloning seems to be such a unique topic in the 40k realm.

@Hushrong: Thanks man! Don't tempt me to start a luna wolves army or my 40k stuff will never get done, am really glad you like the colour scheme! Yeah I feel like cloning is a really under-explored and potential cool theme in 40k.

@Vairocanum: Thank you! I might do the Gravis commander with a red face plate, but I shall see!

While I work on my squad for Augustus's arena, I really wanted to come up with my own take on the primaris librarian. He is nowhere near finished but wanted some input on what head pose I should go for.

The "Come at me Bro" look.

http://i.imgur.com/8PYaYIh.jpg

Looking at his force weapon.

Looking in the other direction.

Any input on the model/pose would be greatly appreciated. Also when I paint him should I do classic librarian blue, normal Void Revenant scheme or a mix of the two?

I'd go with the dark blue as I think it'll look great with the white both across the force and on the model itself. Perhaps white arms and pads or just left arm and pad white.

As for looking, I'd go with straight ahead. I find it works best when they're looking same direction as leading foot, and in this case no reason to be looking at either hand; not aiming or checking the axe teeth for grit.

Fantastic work on the librarian so far! I personally like the "looking at his force weapon" pose as it looks like he's about to defend against attacks while preparing to shoot some lightning/flames. As for the paint scheme, I think going for the standard Void Revenant scheme but with some more blue on the armor would look nice. Looking forward to seeing more!

Excellent work on the Librarian! I like poses two and three, with maybe a slight bias towards two. They are basically telling different stories, though: Two looks like he's in the middle of advancing, yet suddenly has to react to danger from a different direction. Three looks like a more careful advance while preparing some kill lightning as a backup weapon, as Vairocanum said.

Anyway, great stuff! :)

Great conversion, he looks really interesting! I would go for the second or third pose, they both look fitting. As for the paintjob I would use your usual scheme but with some armour plates, like a shoulder, the breastplate and lower legs (try out and see which work for you) painted in pure blue, he's a member of the librarius but, taking into account the "special" conditions of your chapter, he should keep some of his own identity.

I like him looking out over his axe, away from the open hand. Almost like a pitcher on a baseball mound, gathering fel energy to hurl, slider style, down the throat of whatever is leering at him over his axe. Like, in that pose, I can almost feel this guy preparing to clench his fist and just make something awful happen. Usually I'd agree with "head looks where the lead foot tells it to look", but... I'm straying from the path on this one. I'd do him in traditional Librarian Blue... but maybe work in some more accents in your Chapter's scheme to make him cohesive.

@Haz/lakelui: Thank you! Will definitely have to consider that colour scheme along with the others :)

@Aramis K: Yeah am definitely going with a darker rather than pale blue. I really like that idea for segments of the armour being painted blue! The pose is a tough one, and I appreciate the feedback!

@Brother Ainwas: Cheers man! Alrighty here is my quick rundown for the grey armour: White primer, then basecoat of administratum grey. Wash with Nuln oil, and then paint thinned down Ad Grey again on most of the armour except the raised area. Add a little white to the mix and add another smaller layer to these areas, keep repeating till you are almost at white (and remember each subsequent highlight should occupy a smaller area), and then do some edge highlighting with pure ceramite white! Hope this helps.

Cheers for the feedback on the poses, your selection has been noted along with your idea for the colour scheme!

@Vairocanum:  Thank you, am really pleased how he came together! Will add your suggestion for his pose to the tally, and the segments of blue for his colour scheme is a great idea, and seems to be a popular one :D.

@Hushrong: Yeah that last pose I do like, it does make him seem like he is summoning some warp energy to disintegrate his foes!

@Krautscientist: Thank you, I really appreciate the comment :) ! Yeah two and three are definitely the main contenders, going to have to tally the suggestions up and then think on it some more.

@The Traitor: Am pleased you like him! The sections of armour blue really does seem to be a popular suggestion, and it does fit into the chapter identity as you suggested! Cheers for the suggestions on the pose as well.

@Lemainus: Yeah the axe pose certainly does have that feel of "he is about to hurl some warp energy at a poor enemy look!", thank you for your suggestion! Hmmm, the colour scheme idea is a good un and will definitely have to try it on a blank marine template (the ones for designing chapters) on my pc before settling.

Cheers for all the comments guys its much appreciated, and you have all given me a lot to think about before I start putting some paint down on this guy (most likely after I have completed my arena challenge).

@doghouse: Cheers man!

@grieux: Thank you very much and am glad you like the colour scheme.

So I know the reivers are quite a divisive model (I also wish I waited till the full multipart kit), but I picked up 3 to see what I could convert out of em.

So may I present the unpainted first member of one of the Void Revenants Rabisu squads (Rabisu is a mespotamian evil vampiric spirit).

Looks cool, the silencer in the pistol fits the model background, and the sicarian knife looks sick! I'm sad to see the skull mask go, however, I really loved that bit, but also understand that you want to give it a unique feel, which you've certainly accomplished!

@hushrong: Thank you! Its a kitbash of the lion head bit from the empire general and a regular marine head!

@The Traitor: Yeah, the skull masks are pretty cool so will be saving them for something later ;). But am glad you like the conversions!

@Vairocanum: Thank you, Skorr was the model that inspired the conversions. ooooh some wing motifs are a good shout.

Have finally finished and based my Primaris Librarian, now that my arena challenge is complete:

Maruk Viis, First Augur of the Tempest Vaults.

It was called Abyssal’s Tooth, a fine weapon forged in the fires of the Heresy years ago, a weapon wielded by one of the legendary Scholars of the Void no less. Maruk was honoured, to carry such a weapon was a sure sign of favour from the Masters of the Chapter.
Hefting the weapon, he could already feel it react to his psychic energies, crystalline teeth beginning to slowly whirr and hum with pent up charge. Its ancient spirit rising to the surface like a leviathan, old and powerful.

A jolt, red hot and intrusive speared into his skull, Maruk reeling stumbled back as a torrent of raw hatred was channeled from the weapon. The whirring of its teeth becoming a tortured scream, discharging static and psionic energy. Memories flooded through, of nightmare battles, brother turning against brother, and a desperate last stand in the cold spaces of the void.
Beset by fiends in red, their bolters roaring and blades singing, Maruk or was he Marduk, lashed out tearing his foes apart with lightning and axe. For each one he struck down another took its place, power armour defiled, weeping with runes and sigils of the traitors. He must buy time for his brothers to flee, and to drag as many of these traitorous dogs to the hells with him. A searing pain, a blade piercing his gut, cackling laughter, blackness tinting his vision, a roar of defiance then silence…

Maruk came to, his chambers destroyed, torn apart by blade and the powers of the wyrd. The memories stinging like an open wound, but the axe was quiet now it's screams of rage reduced to a quiet whirr.

Maruk was left with a single thought, a sentiment practically howled into his mind: Vengeance...
